  • You might also consider using spcial characters within your meta description like: ★  Use only only one at a time otherwise google ignores it. But in general it is a great way to improve organic CTR's if used appropriately.

  • Yes! In the past I have always tried to work around such issues. But in the last few months I have made good experiences in contacting product developers. And in most cases, they react and improve their software. Have a nice day. Sunny regards from Germany, Sebastian

  • Are you talking about links in the footer? In the sidebar? Navigation? Or content? When you're talking site-wide links in general, you only want links that make sense to have sitewide (for example: your homepage, about us page, contact page etc.), and you don't want to use anchor text that manipulates relevancy - if you're linking to your homepage, it makes sense for the anchor text to be "home", and I don't think you'd be penalized for that. It's worth checking out Rand's recent over-optimization whiteboard friday though - there was some very good info in there regarding site-wide links.

  • I agree with both you guys... Gone are the days of outbound links hurting your authority. Be useful to users. Users enjoy usefulness. Google gauges your site's usefulness by the behavior of it's visitors... What's better for your rankings? A user clicks through to your site, then realizes "This isn't what I'm looking for" and clicks the back button... bouncing to Google in hopes to find the content they're actually seeking OR... A user clicks through to your site, exclaimes "Hallelujah! I found it!" and clicks from your site to the content... they give it a good look, and the click back to your site, which was so very helpful. You get the point. Too many hours in front of the screen for me today. Donnie said it in a sentence...

  • This was just mentioned in Rand's white board video, tip #3.  The only thing is it conflicts with SEOmoz's linking, as they have about 20 links on the footer.  Are they there because they are getting clicked on? I'm pretty sure nobody clicks on my footer links and am in the process of removing them and adding customized side navigations on specific pages to add a better navigational structure. To SEOmoz, why so many footer links on SEOmoz if it's a 2012 no, no? Note:  Must be logged out to see footer links.

  • it is always better to internally link to the version with the backslash at the end. As this is where it gets redirected to anyway.

  • Yes, no one is going to search for the part number, you will rank for the part number anyhow,  so why use the very best place in the site for a term you are going to rabnk for anyhow. Plastics bins is the term you need to compete for, put that right at the begining of your title.

  • I use SEO Site Tools as this shows On Page / External Metrics plus show well the page is optimise and also gives suggestions on how to improve it.  I also use SEO Quake as this displays the Google Pagrank and the Alex Rank plus other SEO factors including text density and nofollow links.

  • Agree with Matt. There's no point ranking if nobody ever clicks on your link. If you can make your Title/Description combinations compelling / relevant then it's possible for your entry to punch above it's weight and get more clicks then you'd expect from it's position. Or conversely your entry might not get the clicks you expect if your titles/description aren't connecting with your audience. If you're got hundreds of missing meta-descriptions then I'd start by looking at your important pages.
