  • Hi Thomas This is really a nice question. I found a nice post on Is Google’s Synonym Matching Increasing?. Also there is a good post on More info about synonyms at Google by Matt Cutts on Jan 2010.

  • Thanks,  that is what we were thinking but it is good to have other peoples opinions on it too.  It did not make sense they would only count it once if it was the child or grandchild etc.

  • No we make sure the reviews are associated with the categories. They are not just random.  Also the reviews are linked back to the associated product.  My question is does it make a difference if we update them daily or just like once a week?

  • Hi Tyler, That's great that you're aware of Linda's forum (I'm a mod there, too:))!  I recommend writing your title tags in a more natural manner than the example you've given above. I'd go with something more like that: Contact Moe's Italian Pizza In Springfield, IN At (XXX) XXX-XXXX If you've found that 'gourmet' is a vital keyword for the page, you could work that in instead of the phone number, but I always try to put the phone number in the title tag of the contact page. See how my example reads naturally? Like a human would speak? In my opinion, this is the optimum way to go. Rand agrees with this method, too. I recommend you watch his WhiteBoard Friday from earlier in the year in which he talks about naturalness in title tags: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/6-changes-every-seo-should-make-before-the-over-optimization-penalty-hits-whiteboard-friday Also, be careful about repeating keywords, as covered in Linda's thread which SEO5 has smartly linked to. Hope this helps!

  • Hi Sebastian Thanks for the response. We were also concerned about cannibalisation as some of the links/page titles are: qualifying for unfair dismissal, unfair dismissal exceptions, unfair dismissal & retirement, unfair dismissal test.

  • Hi again Navinan, I was just going through my email box cleaning up some old emails and I ran across this blog post from Distilled that might be helpful to your specific situation: http://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/seo-for-university-websites Hope that's a good one! Dana

  • I'd base the site structure/taxonomy on the user experience and the relevant content that you have for the different categories and sub categories. The main thing is to ask yourself this question " will the user benefit from my site if i have all my site info divided into these categories and sub categories. In your case for the category i would suggest myhomedecoratingsite.com/room/master-suite/                    (however instead of the keyword "room" try searching for another keyword. For the post , i'd suggest myhomedecoratingsite.com/room/master-suite/beautiful-modern-suite/ . The taxonomy also depends on how easy it is for the user to find your content or drill down with the options provided from the category to the sub category. Use breadcrumb links on all the pages. Here's a Link addressing this topic Her's another post by Dr. Pete on this topic

  • Here's a post from our help desk on why sometimes only one page is crawled. https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/409821-why-isn-t-my-site-being-crawled-you-re-not-crawling-all-my-pages If that doesn't solve your problem, please send an email to help@seomoz.org. Thanks!

  • This issue that you're facing is quite common with franchise related websites as they follow one master template and just some localized content changes on each of the franchisee sites. Each of the individual franchisee sites should invest in original content that separates it from the corporate site. Just having a 5% difference in content will not suffice and will do harm sooner or later. A really good discussion on this topic in this Link

  • Absolutely. Flimsy pages will have a hard time ranking, and if all pages on your site consists of all flimsy pages you'll get hit by panda and even if you aren't hit by panda, high competition keywords will be difficult to rank for with weak content. Anything less than 250 words is flimsy IMO. Don't write for SEO if you care about the user and conversions, don't over optimize and be sure to use similar phrases and industry words so that Google can tell that your site really is about that keyword and not just an article with that keyword thrown in for SEO.
