  • I personally have not ever felt it would be necessary to do something like that. The only thing that matters is if the search engines see your proper setup and accept it.  So monitor Google Webmaster Tools and how they treat your sitemap files - you say they've already been submitted so GWT should see them - that system will let you know if there's a problem from their view. Whether other sites that are not the big three search engines have a problem is not important to your having them the way you do - they are only files that the search engines need.

  • In February you lost (or were removed) a few hundred links some of which were keyword rich for banner stands. I've haven't looked far in to your history but this seems like the most likely reason. I don't want to start listing the sites linking to you in this q&a forum but if you are interested pm me and I can send you some. Brian

  • Hello, I browsed you site a little bit and I still believe it would be interesting to add a geographic dimension to your description and title if possible. title idea: %%title%% in %%city%% - ShedFinders.co.uk Description idea: Commercial Property for %%sale/let%% - %%title%% located at %%city%% -or- %%address%%. Exclusive industrial property, land & investments accroos scotland. If you can make sure title are not too long, adding other attributes like city, address, sell type will create more differences from page to page and is not bad for search engines since I believe that usually people search for certain property type by region. Note: The %%fieldname%% are examples, I have no idea how it's done in your site.

  • This might work, but could be seen as doorway pages and could be penalized down the road. After all you are creating pages for the sole purpose of targeting a keyword/area. If you submit your company address, I guess google will show results in your area or near your area, so if you are competitve, it might not be necessary for you to create pages for each city near you.

  • Ok, that seems reasonable.  I am assuming b is the best url because I already have simple living in the domain name as a partial match. Two follow on questions. . . On a post that isn't one word like "Quotes",  Say something titled like this, "The Benefits of Simple Living for Society."  Is it ok to have simple living in both the domain name an URL? Like such:   http://simplelivingwithgod.com/benefits-of-simple-living-for-society/ Secondly, when my title does not have "Simple Living" in the title, say "When the Game is Over the Toys Get Put Away"  Is it considered stuffing / google penalty if on those pages I have the title as . . . When the Game is Over the Toys Get Put Away | Simple Living with God tia, Kevin

  • Hey Daniel, Most footers are simply a series of horizontal lists of ancillary pages or popular pages,  along with the odd copyrighted brand name a year and possibly a link to the Web designer/developer or SEO company. Therefore I see heading tags as overkill. That said, I have seen more elaborate footers that contain a lot of useful information where adding headings to group the information could be useful. Dan

  • Thanks Paul - actually that has worked a treat.  Everything is back to where is should be. I'm getting a error with creating my xml site map which is frustrating as not sure how to fix that as then wanted to submit a new one. But happy keywords all seem to be as normal! Laura

  • Hi Darrin, Can you provide your website URL or a few examples of the URLs that are getting the duplicate content error? If you can't provide them, I would recommend referencing http://www.seomoz.org/help/fixing-crawl-diagnostic-issues which says the following about fixing duplicate page content: "Duplicate Page Content Duplicate Content means there are pages that are identical (or nearly identical) to content on other pages of your site, which can force your pages to unnecessarily compete with each other for rankings. Here are some things you can do about duplicate pages: Delete content that is similar on each page. Add some new and unique content to each page that is on the report. This can be done by adding more information, ideas, product descriptions, or anything that can make it differ from other pages on the domain. You can also add a rel=canonical to one of the duplicate pages. Here are a few ways to do this: Add a rel="canonical" link in between the  and elements. This should be done on the version of the page you want to be ranking or that non-canonical version of the two (or multiple) pages. To specify a canonical link to the page http://www.seomoz.org/blog.php?item=seomoz-iscool, create a  element that looks like this: <link rel="canonical"href="<a href="http://www.seomoz.com/blog.php?item=seomoz-iscool">http://www.seomoz.com/blog.php?item=seomoz-iscool"/></link rel="canonical"href="<a> Copy this link into the  section of all non-canonical versions of the page, such as http://www.seomoz.com/blog.php?item=seomoz-iscool&sort=fun. Keep in mind that that canonicals will stop the pages from ranking against each other, but they will still show up as duplicate content from a UI perspective, so we will still count them as duplicate." Thanks, Mike

  • I tend to look at the number of links on a page and not only look at it from what Google might think, but how does it work from a usability point of view? Are visitors easily able to navigate around the pages and site? Are links clear and concise? Do they all make sense? If I come up with the answer "no", then I would be wanting to do something about it. 1000 links on a page is a lot and I would honestly be trying to trim this right down - are 1000 links all necessary? Perhaps looking at a new navigation structure would help. Andy

  • Hi Chiaryn Miranda, Thanks for the detailed information. All my links are indexed by google & are link depth 1. However, having said this, I had made few changes in the month of Jan end. So , I guess I should be able to see the internal links in the coming update. Regards, Anuj
