Ask and answer questions around the topic of content development for SEO.

  • I took a look at the Loopnet.com community profile pages, and more specifically, at their blog pages. It looks as if it just pulls in the title and a a short excerpt from the feed and links out to the original site page where the content originated. So to answer your questions, no you should have no problems with duplicate content. Also, it may be helpful for your client's site because the links appear to not be nofollow and should pass link juice.

  • I dont think you read my comments correctly. I never said you can not ranik with CMS only that they spit out violations, obvioulsy you would do better without them. for example your site has over 18,000 violations according to Bing over 5,000 broken links over 4,000 html errors over 800 unessasary redirects leaking link juice 800 cases of long querry strings over 200 canonical issues I will have to say that your answer is based on assumptions that joomla was good for SEO

  • Wordpress is definietely a best choice considering various points" Wordpress is developed mainly for blogging. Means the basic structure is designed from the blogging prospects. Gradually they build up and added features of CMS but without changing their main structure. Joomla is mainly built as CMS. That is very flexible and can be used for various types of websites using extensions. So If you want to use Joomla as blogging site, you need some extra extensions. Wordpress is much easier to use, specially when you are using it for blog only. 100 of blogging related extensions available with Wordpress. For Example Social Sharing, Feedburner, Videos and other media handling, etc. It can be bit complex in Joomla.

  • 1. The reviews are on 3rd party review websites e.g. widgetreview.com 2. We do have a lot of original content on each of the product pages. We were ideally looking to add value to customer experience as we have sorted the original content side already. Permission wise we thought as they are on a public forum we could extract them-but good point we will verify before proceeding. Any other thoughts are much appreciated.

  • I am also searching for same solution! I am submitting my one article in 390+ article directories list. Sometimes, it works but sometimes it does not work! I am searching for such powerful method or process which give me best result after content distribution.

  • Apologies I didn't explain myself very well. I meant issues relating to search engines finding matching content on two separate websites. Will this have any SEO implications as effectively we are 'plagiarising' the content in the eyes of the bots right even though it is just customer opinion of our own products?

  • What I like to do with MBG is list all the blogs available on MBG, then sort by number of posts, this way I know I got a good chance of getting a post on there if I contact them. Then systematically copy the url into Google and use the MozBar to look at the domains data. So for example I found one yestarday which had the following stats: Domain Auth: 50, Page Auth: 69, Moz Rank: 5.2, MozTrust: 5.6 with 315 linking root domains. I friended the blog owner, and I got an article scheduled for today with 2 links one in the body and one in the byline.

  • Thing is some times Google has blocks on specific sites, I have noticed this with sports betting and gaming sites in the past. Sites may be accepted a few years ago. Also from my experience you need very high quality content and you need to be producing content at a fast rate. A good post from the SEOmoz blog can be found here, about getting into Google news: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-seomoz-gained-1000s-of-visits-from-google-news

  • Syndication tag can be used if you are not worried about your pages in Google news. You may also use "noindex" or "canonical" if you want to play a very safe game. But as you know, your pages won't be indexed. If you mention the content source at prominent places, you will be O.K. Example: In title you may say as "....event by ........." In the body, you may say as "...thanks to .........." As long as the overall percentage of duplicate content in your site is in very reasonable level and you link back to content source, you won't find any problem. Google clarified that content duplication alone will not lead to negative impact. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/06/duplicate-content-due-to-scrapers.html

  • Can you elaborate on the security issues? There were some issues with phpbb 2 (many years ago), but phpbb 3 is extremely secure. I think your information is very outdated.

  • You should watch the webinar where Rand talks about large scale marketing tactics for ecommerce stores. He mentioned that you should always write the product descriptions, even if it's just 5 per day. This strategy, along with adding chunks of text on category pages has proved to be extremely successful for our ecommerce clients. Whilst the webinar is more than a year old... it was still well ahead of its time at recording

  • Good point, somewhat like academics where professors must publish.

  • That's what I think too. However, I do feel this has to do with some kind of penalty or issue concerning our site. If any clues come up, please share. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the reply! Hmm, do you mean to add further scripted content to bulk out the pages? We currently have a lot of dynamic (so, near-duplicate, but basically duplicate) content on all of those pages - Page Titles are unique - but the content is the same, just replacing the City name in each paragraph. That's the problem really, so I'm not sure additional dynamic content will fix that unless I've got the wrong end of the stick?

  • Can free article sites damage my reputation In my opinion they are mainly a waste of time. I want to know if this is going to spoil my reputation If they have you sounding like an idiot on the web.. .then yes. i would like to know why people use these programmes when they do not even make sense. They think that they convert your article into their money.
