I don't think it is that simple.

They are a known scam out fit, operating under multiple names and ripping customers off. There are countless cases online of customers being scammed by using these sites. However, seemingly they create a new domain, and get ranked.

Thats fair enough, if they are able to do that they should be SEOs, however, its a clear scam, with replicated sites. Sites with no links, poor content and new domains - great SEO

And is that in-line with what is perceived to deliver rankings? Egol, I read many of your posts on here, and if I was to ask you if I should do what they a have done with a site, I would guess you would say no - you need to create great content, lots of really great content and post it directly to your own site etc etc - right?

So, how can a site, or rather multiple sites like this, with zero content, zero links (some have anchor text rich links from forums) and new registered domains, mostly on the same server, beat long established, big name companies in the UK (and no, not sites I have worked on) within days of registering a new domain, and then, not only stay there, but move up the rankings?

Its not that simple.

I agree with Irving, "It's just a matter of time until they get penalized." - lots hope its not that long.

A further check reveals that the operators of these sites appear to be scam artists. I've checked and they own over 200 domains, many of them registered this year, all with similar EMDs.

So, is Google's algorithm really that advanced if these can operator and push out legitimate sites?

Should we all just become spammers in this case?

In terms of reporting them, I've noticed that Google only allows you to produce a spam complaint for one URL at a time. Is there a way to add multiple URLs?

Well, for one particular competitive keyword they've steadily been climbing from page two, one, and are now in position number three.

I know what you mean about the payday loan sector too. That search is even more spammy than this industry.

Apologies if my last response was a little vague. In answer to my question, along with some answers from SEO moz, and with my own thoughts in mind, prompted me to look a little deeper.

I found on numerous boards and discussions that the server location now has little benefit i.e. its very unlikely you will get any SEO boost directly from location.

To sum up, and with help from the Big G itself:

" If you change hosting provider for a country domain, there should be no impact. If you change the hosting provider of an international domain to a provider in another country, we recommend using Webmaster Tools to tell us which country your site should be associated with." In either case, there will be no impact.

The Matt Cutts video is now over 4 years old, and a lot has happened in that time. Server location is no longer a factor all things being the same.

However, the speed of that server is, as Kevin rightly says. However, Kevin also says the "most stable sites use domestic servers" - so I guess it depends what is domestic to you. i.e. If Kevins server is in the US and I am in the UK, and his domestic server is the most stable, fast and reliable, then switching my hosting to the US from the UK should only benefit my site, as it will be faster, more stable and more reliable - so as long as I set my location within webmaster tools, i'll be good to go.

I've recently noticed that a series of EMDs have been setup to completely spam an extensive set of keywords - and it seems to be working.

All of the URLs are keyword targeted with tons of keyword variations. And they're getting massive ranking preference over a number of more established websites.

These are just an example of some of the domains;

diykitchens1.co.uk

fittedkitchens1.co.uk

cheapkitchens1.co.uk

kitchenunits1.co.uk

And then there's loads of local targeted domains such as;

kitchensglasgow1.co.uk

kitchensedinburgh1.co.uk

Again, all of these are getting high ranking with what seems to be duplicated websites. It's pretty bizarre.

Will Google penalise these sites? Surely they will?

I'm just wondering whether you can help me out here.

We're considering moving our servers to a new country but are a little hesitant to what  - if any - SEO impact it would have on our clients' sites.

For instance, if all of our clients are UK-based but their server isn't, would that affect their rank in Google UK?

Or is it simply just a case of whether moving a server would affect the site speed or not?

The name on the bottom right, if I remember correctly, will be the name of the company that has a subscription to the service. I.e. you can brand the report with your own logo and url.

Yep - I used this, oh must be 8 years ago now!  Its a company named IBP (Internet Business Promoter - www.ibusinesspromotor dot com).Its not a great reporting tool TBH, I found it just pointed out a load of things it calculates are incorrect. But a lot of the things it thinks are incorrect are incorrect, if that makes sense.

It tries to get you to do all the things it believes are in-line with the search engines, until your page is "100% optimised".

IMHO, your best getting to grips with excel pivot tables and creating your own measurable reporting technique. Tailor the report to the important metrics - i.e. what is delivering ROI for the client site?

Thanks - I'm hoping more people will agree with you on this one. As well as confusing humans, surely Google must be suspicious too. Like you say, I would 301 them too, and my Dev also agrees, but would be nice to hear it from the wider SEO community.

Client has an old unused site 'A' which I've discovered during my backlink research. It contains this source code below which frames the client's 'proper' site B inside the old unused url A in the browser address.

Quick question - will google penalise the website B which is the one I'm optimising? Should the client be using a redirect instead?

We have a couple of seasonal websites (Artificial Christmas trees).

Now, its fairly easy to develop good content that people are interested in when the season is approaching, and even easier mid season.

However, this somewhat stalls when everyone has had their fill of Christmas, between Jan and Sept.

So, my question is, how would you suggest an approach to link building for a seasonal ecommerce site such as this?

Obviously my aim is to develop links now, so when September comes, the site is up there.

One of our clients has just reported that they've received an email from WMT stating they may have "Unnatural Inbound Links".

I've done some research and found this link which certainly seemed applicable;

As you can imagine, going through all of the client's backlinks may be a time consuming process so I was just wondering what the time frame for these Google warnings is like?

Because we've got the email now, does it mean that a bad link was built fairly recently? Or could it have been a number of months ago?

Also, what are people's experiences dealing with these type of emails? Is it just a case of sifting through links and then re-submitting to WMT?
