I think you would be fine to change it so you have the correct spelling - just be sure to 301 redirect the old file name to the new file name after to change it.

RE: Welcome to the Crawling, Indexing, and Ranking sub-forum
I think you need to set up some rel=alternate tags to let Google know that you have two versions of the same website because of 'language' differences (at least dialect differences). I think Google may be seeing duplicate content in the newer website and just placing the older website in the serps in its place.

RE: Mixing 'rel canonical' and 'rel alternate'
I know they no longer recommend it (for simplification reasons, I believe) but our system automatically adds the canonical tags to pages (we manually add alternate tags for translated pages) and we have not seen any backlash from having the canonical tags in place.
That isn't to say we may not change how our system handles these tags in the future but for now I simply think that Google is saying you can take it or leave it on translated pages. It may be overkill but it isn't hurting anything.

RE: Sub Domains and Robot.txt files...
Thank you, Mr. Young. I believed this to be the case (that it wasn't the robots.txt file) but I could think of nothing else. I have since been indexed.

Sub Domains and Robot.txt files...
This is going to seem like a stupid question, and perhaps it is but I am pulling out what little hair I have left.
I have a sub level domain on which a website sits. The Main domain has a robots.txt file that disallows all robots. It has been two weeks, I submitted the sitemap through webmaster tools and still, Google has not indexed the sub domain website. My question is, could the robots.txt file on the main domain be affecting the crawlability of the website on the sub domain? I wouldn't have thought so but I can find nothing else.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Search terms that have the same meaning
How similar are they? Are you finding that you have competition that rank for one but not the other? If they are very similar I wouldn't be surprised if ranking well for one had you already ranking well for the other.

RE: Aiming for long tails on a long piece of content, without over-optimisation and attracting Panda...
Definitely don't cut yourself short. If it takes 15k words to properly describe something then that is what it takes. It sounds to me that you have a good handle on what you are doing. Keep it natural and all will be well. Good luck!

RE: TLA / Text Link Ads
I don't know, man. When Barry Schwartz finally caved and no followed the paid ads on seoroundtable I figured that was about it. The end. He refused to do it out of principle for a very long time and then one day said 'screw it' and threw the tags on. I have no doubt he will still get fans that wish to pay for a clearly paid spot on his site (and it has always been clearly marked as paid) but for the most part.... people buy them for the link juice.... I think it can still work for a while but Ole' Goog is getting a lot better a properly determining when a link is a TLA and seems to be coming down hard on them. Personally I haven't used them in a very long time.

RE: Aiming for long tails on a long piece of content, without over-optimisation and attracting Panda...
You never 'have' to use the keyword at all, actually. Simply make sure you are writing about it and chances are you will use it exactly how many times you should. It isn't the keywords, or more specifically it isn't mainly the keywords. It is the surrounding text. Are you describing your keyword? Are you staying relevant and on topic? And as far as your content volume I would suggest never write content for the sake of having content. If the page requires 4k words then write 4k words. If it requires 1k then write 1k. Quality over Quantity. I promise.
Cheers.

RE: Www to non www redirect
when was your site moved over to the new site? You say that didn't go well and I have to wonder if you left out a lot of redirecting there. If it hasnt been to long and Google still has the old site indexed (or even if not if you had good links) I would make sure you redirect every page of your old website to the relevant page of your new website.

RE: Are Directories Still of Any Value?
I would strongly suggest only submitting to directories that you believe will benefit you outside of search. i.e. directories that will deliver relevant traffic by themselves.

RE: Review my website and guide me what can do for top ranking.
Attempting to check your website from my office and I get this::
Malicious website blocked
| Rating: | Dangerous | Verified fraudulent page or threat source. |
What You Can Do:
This could be our software but this isn't something I have gotten before. You might make sure your website hasn't been hacked.... I know this doesnt really answer your question but it might be worth looking in to.

I need to talk to someone there on the phone. What is the best phone number to reach you.
Describe your question in detail. The more information you give, the better! It helps give context for a great answer.

Does Penguin Help Negative SEO?
With negative link targeting seeming to become more and more of a ‘standard practice’ for more and more agencies and freelance SEOs (I, for one, have had to use the disavow tool far more than I ever thought I would) and the fact that there are more “link building services” that really only build ‘crap’ links than there were when that type of link building worked, I am honestly a bit afraid that Google is really just pushing SEO’s to the ‘dark side’ or at least handing black hat link builders a great tool for bringing down the competition. I had one SEO actually say to me “If my client can’t recover than at least I can target everyone that jumped ahead of them and only spend around $300 on bad link building”. This came from someone I NEVER thought would say anything of the sort and really got me to thinking’ “will this be the future of SEO?” I know the answer is no but still, it seems more and more people are just throwing their hands up and targeting competition rather than working on their own websites and with updates like Penguin I am afraid that more of my time will be spent disavowing links than building them.

RE: Which is better Title length vs. keywords?
In this instance I would probably go with something like this:
Orlando Jobs!: Quality Inspector | Electrical Manufacturing - Orlando

RE: What are other SEO's calling themselves now?
A few years back the powers that be (or in this case WERE) here where I work decided that my department would go from 'Internet Marketers' to 'Online Acquisition Marketers'... it was horrible. No one understood what it meant and we found ourselves explaining our services far more than we ever had to in the past. Needless to say... it didn't last. We are back to 'internet marketers'. It is simple, people already know what it means - or if they don't the meaning is fairly self evident once you hear it. Just as in all things, simplicity is best. That was the lesson learned around here. In my defense... I hated even saying 'online acquisition marketing'... just sounded weird...
