Facebook Page not in Search
We link to it from our website, blog and some news articles we wrote. The name is "brand - kw, kw", but would adding 2 keywords after the brand really make us lose all of our Facebook rankings? That doesn't sound right.

How to understand Link Detective results
I assume the dead links can be A. Broken or B. No longer linking to you - It may not mean the site is not linking to you as they may have moved the link to another page etc. just that the exact link that have previously been seen, is no longer. If the links gave you a rank boost, and are no longer linking to you - yes they could harm your site in terms of rank loss, otherwise I would not worry too much.

Creative Linking for Marginal Industries?
Try this strategy. let's say you are trying to rank in the UK. Find some .co.uk sites where you can build links from. You may get better rankings in google.co.uk. I wish I could help you more.

Does a Slider widget harm my SEO?
They certainly add to the user experience. Personally I don't like ones that auto start, just like I hate animated gifs.. very annoying. That said if properly implemented the code to the image and alt / title text will be in the source of the page and thus crawled by the Search Engines. I don't see how they could harm SEO unless you driving people away from your site with external links or something...

Are Facebook posts indexed?
No, Facebook content doesn't get indexed. Take a look at the SEOmoz Facebook page's cached, text version from google: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:chzSCnphy10J:www.facebook.com/SEOmoz&hl=en&gl=us&strip=1. The only content from the whole page is this: SEOmoz is on Facebook. To connect with SEOmoz, sign up for Facebook today.32,806 likes · 1,117 talking about thisSEO Software, tools and tutorials. Google Webmasters not Accurate
Thanks! And yes, I know there is no actual value in the keywords tag. I figure its worth keeping because doesn't hurt and the content writers can use it to quickly see the main KWs for each page.

Sitemap not indexing pages
Hi Sara, it's difficult to provide any specific hints without seeing the website in question. I would suggest that you start by reading Webmaster Guidelines from Google: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769 Make sure that you site complies with these recommendations, especially when it comes to content. If many pages on your site are thin on content, or have duplicate content issues, these would be the likely reasons.

Long Meta Descriptions
The key is to make the meta descriptions unique - if they are not important then the rule which grabs the first sentance would work fine (as you suggest). Another rule (so it reads better) is to limit it to say, 135 chars, have some smarts in place to ensure you don't end the sentance mid word & then append the end with "... Read more here" or something relevant to your site. So the template could look like: "<first 135="" chars="" of="" first sentence not="" ending="" mid-word="">... Read more here." (even if it does end mid word it would be better than having duplicated descs since the pages aren't important) </first> hope that helps!

Website IP Location
Hi Sara, Where you host really isn't considered a major ranking factor - there are many UK sites which are hosted in the US and they don't have issues with ranking. I'm assuming you're not suffering with poor loading speeds - if you are - go ahead and change your hosting but I wouldn't worry too much about whether that's UK or US You've not said whether your domain is a .co.uk or a generic (e.g. a .com / .net etc). If you do have a generic domain I'd recommend that you geo-target via Google Webmaster Tools - see http://www.seo-chicks.com/1463/geotargeting-on-the-same-domain-using-xml-sitemaps.html I hope this helps, Hannah

Zemanta for Foreign Markets
I can't help with finding an international alternative to Zemanta, because it's highly specialized and one-of-a-kind, but I can help with the second. Here's how you should think of international sites. If you have a blog about camping, and you get a link from a site about pets, it's considered irrelevant. Links from international sites are the same way. They'll pass value just like any link, but they won't pass relevancy, so they won't help as much with moving up in your country's SERPs (only from a relevancy standpoint; as I said, they'll still pass value which will help you move up). They'll help a little bit more if it's the same language, but not as much as links from sites in your own country. Don't worry, I've got proof. I did an experiment. I tried to get an exact keyword match site to rank in Google India getting links from only sites in the US. The result? I ranked great in the US SERPs, but not nearly as well in the Google India SERPs. I still ranked decent (#9 in India, #2 in US), because the links were of the same language (both India and US speak English), but it just didn't have the same effect.

Duplicate Content
I am also very interested in hearing any information about a "good" percentage. We also have pages with no to much content leading to the menus and footer being the larger part of the content of the page. This marks the pages as duplicates. Despite also searching for an answer, I can give a little input. If your pages do not have the same content, however Google/SEOmoz labels them as duplicates, you should not just add the canonical link. Not if the pages do not have the same topic or compete for the same keyword. I have been told that marking up the pages correctly will give a better crawl from google. If one uses the markups from schema.org, one should be able to mark up the menu as a menu, footer as a footer, content as content - in a way such that Google looks at the actual content and not the layout and menus. Hope this was of some help. -Rasmus

Cross Sub Domain Canonical Links
There's no problem with cross subdomain canonical links. Your plan of using setting canonicals for duplicate pages until the pages differ sounds fine to me. If you're internationalizing across different locations but the same language (like, English), Google recently released some new markup to display the title and description of the canonical page, but the URL of the localized version. You can read more about it here: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/12/new-markup-for-multilingual-content.html.

Facebook Fan Page Title
Hi Sara! I'm not sure that adding keywords to the title will help much for SEO purposes. It may look a bit spammy actually, and I'm not sure you want your Facebook page to rank (or possibly outrank you) for your keywords. But the main thing is that most people when they link to your Facebook page they'll normally use the anchor text of "brand name" or "brand name on facebook" or sometimes just "Facebook". I think just adding your brand name is good as it helps for those brand queries. Hope this helps! Jen
