Duplicate Content Question
Most plumbing companies just can't devote the resources to rebrand. What you said was a permutation of what I said, so I can't disagree. Though getting a smaller business to rebrand is terribly difficult. We all know the benefits. But are there any tactics you know of that would help?

WP SEO plugin
I have seen this as well, and have experience with both SEO plugins mentioned in this thread. Yoast is very good, as is All in one seo pack. Not many people are aware of the different rules of robots for a page. The page title switching is controlled by Google, as mentioned above. The effects can be mitigated by adding a special meta tag on that page, which is ODP = no. ODP (stand for open directory project) will allow Google to switch around the titles to better suit the users search query. Another tag you should add is archive = no. Below is a complete example: name="robots" content="index, follow, noarchive, snippet, noodp" /> This states to the search engine, index this page, follow all links, do not show archived pages, (old, cached) allow snippets and markup, and do not customize displayed titles from open directory project. Want proof? http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-supports-meta-noodp-tag/ "In some circumstances, Google uses descriptions from the Open Directory Project as the title and snippet for a web result; this tag lets you opt out of the ODP title and description." I have used this on my site, and on clients sites with great success. If you add this tag, it will take a while to reindex, but give it a try and see if they display the real page title after you submit and wait a bit. This should help you out quite a bit.

Moz Local Canada
Hi AlpsKiosks, I want to be sure I'm understanding your question correctly. If you are trying to list a business physically located in Canada, I'm afraid Moz Local is not a good match for you. But, if you're saying that you are trying to list the businesses of your US-based clients, then Moz Local will work for that. As with any citation building strategy (whether manual or automated) it's all about the physical location of the business, and at this time, Moz Local supports US-based businesses solely. Hope this explanation is helpful, but please let me know if you have any further questions about this!

B2B Social Media Creeping
If you can contact the person directly, consider them a lukewarm lead. It's not like they filled out a lead gen form or otherwise told you they're interested in your product/service, but they're not exactly cold either. That being said, it is entirely possible that them looking at your profile was not motivated by any thoughts of purchase, so you don't want to go in too strong. If I were you, I'd email them or send them an LI message and just say that you know that you're part of the same LI group, or that you're in the same field, or something like that and that you just want to say hi and learn about their business... or something to that effect. If they're not interested, they'll say no or not even reply. If they're interested, you've opened the door to inform them about what you do through asking them what they do

Definition of Black Hat SEO
For me, Davinia hits the perfect resource for determining what is appropriate or inappropriate. But, I think then you have to ask the question of intent. So, a small family business that is short on resources picks the junior son to do SEO because he knows more about computers. He buys some links, etc. Was he engaging in "black hat SEO?" I think not. As to a large SEO firm doing the same... Well my opinion is different. So ask the question to the SEO firm this way: How long have you been doing SEO? Have you had a professional on our account or is the person you have new to the industry? If I wanted to buy some links or establish a link wheel, etc. will you help me with that? If they answer all of those questions as they should if they are proclaiming light derby status (got tired of the black hat), and they did what you say, you then ask this question: So, there are (your examples here) on the site. Given that, was it because you really do not know SEO or is it that you lied about doing things outside of GWT guidelines? At that point, you have at least made them look in the mirror. Unfortunately, we spend too much time on good guys vs bad guys. (Yes, I am guilty of it). I think this is driven from two areas: First, many of us look for the easy answer in our endeavors before we look for the best answer. The easy answer in SEO is, frankly, often manipulation of the tools, etc. The other area that drives this back and forth is that we all are stakeholders in various sites. All of a sudden we realize someone is ahead of us for the keyword we love and we are incredulous; we then look to find out how they cheated to get there. Again, I am guilty too. Good question,

Twitter Certified Products
It's probably a process to jump through Twitter's hoops. Seriously, just using the logo properly now has to be scoped out by a team of attorneys. The Certified Products page would be one heckuva good backlink

Google Preferred Agency???
This could also be that they have some app that Google shows for them through the reseller program: https://www.google.com/enterprise/marketplace/categoryHome?categoryId=2 I am not aware of a preferred SEO or SEM agency. The only instance I know of around Google and Preferred is the preferred API pricing of Adwords Certified Agencies. Best. I think your discretion as to the name is well thought out: I would send a screen shot to Google if it were me.

Local Site Submit
I have to clarify this thread - I'm actually a reseller now, for LSS, and it's very good, and very useful, and obviously the 2012 comments above were made before the concept of "NAP consistency" was known. The process and user interface is similar to Yext, only much better, because unlike Yext they DO take care of the 4 core local data providers like Moz does - (Acxiom, Localeze, Infogroup and Factual) There are dozens of other valuable directories they list at, (as well as the 'not so valuable' of course), but the full list does covers the spectrum of important sites very well when stacked up against the others. As a reseller, I can give my client a white labeled login to check progress month after month, and I'm provided with various widget options that runs "local listing status scans" and then captures the lead data into my system. To quote my rep from one of his emails when I asked - "We absolutely do NOT create duplicates and have several fail safes in place in our workflow to ensure we do not." Overall, I've found LSS to be a great value and help, and for the end user, it's one of the best values in the industry. Not as cheap as Moz local, but still 1/2 the price of Yext..
