RE: Branded vs non branded keyword question
thanks for the response but im curious, I have already been building links using exact match anchor text and have been ranking fairly well forbthose terms. Would building branded anchor text terms help increase my rankings for terms im already going after?
what do you think a good link profile looks like in respect to branded vs non branded anchor txt?

Branded vs non branded keyword question
I have been doing a lot of research about my competitors on open site explorer and have come to see that most of them are getting a high percentage of links from branded anchor text. It is almost to the point where they are not even using any keyword terms as anchor text. I have a few questions:
1. why are they doing this
2.. how are they ranking for keyword terms when I cannot find any anchor text in their link profile that reflects their target keywords.
3. is it better for me to focus on building branded anchor text keywords than to do exact match keyword terms especially after the panda update
4. if it is better for me to focus on branded anchor text only, how do i rank for keyword terms?

RE: SEO companies
Well some of my link profile has this work done already. Would it be a bad idea to add a little bit more then focus on building high quality links? I mean the worst that could happen is all of the spammy links would be devalued right?

SEO companies
So prior to joining SEOmoz I have tried a few seo companies and had somewhat decent results. All of these companies did things like:
directory submissions
social bookmarking
social profiles
blog comments
article syndication
press releaseand so forth. These things that they were doing worked and improved the rankings of my websites in the serps. After some time and research I figured out that all this stuff was easy to do and that I could do these things myself.
After joining SEOmoz I come to find that these types of links are not considered high quality because they are easy to acquire. Some of you may even say that they are the basis of a spammy link profile. My question is why would you not want to do these things if they work and all of your competition is using these strategies, including big name brand companies?

RE: Targeting nearly identical keywords
I'm not an expert so forgive me if I'm wrong. I am doing the same thing with my search results car / auto. From what I know Google recognizes synonyms and acknowledges them. What I did is target car as the main keyword and in the first paragraph or somewhere close to the top I use the term auto. When you do a search in the SERPS I rank for both car and auto terms (not exactly the same position but not a big discrepancy). The only difference is what Google bolds in the SERPS description. If I search car it will bold my page title with the term car and when I search auto it bolds my description with the word auto in it.
Again I am no expert and there may be better or more SEO friendly ways but this is how I went about it.

Mobile blog creating duplicate title and content issues
My site is set up with a mobile website and after running the on page SEO report on moz it is returning multiple errors for duplicate title tags and duplicate content all related to the mobile website being a direct reflection of the main site.
I want to know if this is really an issue. I'm sure Google actually knows the difference between my main site and the mobile version. Do I really need to go through each individual mobile page and change each page title and modify all the content? I really would like to avoid doing this but at the same time would like to fully optimize my site. Any advice is appreciated.
