Pop-ups ok for SEO?
Agreed. No SEO ding directly, but as donford said, be careful that you don't mess up UX. One thing to be aware of. If you use a 3rd party to host the pop-up, it can slow down the site if the script blocks the downloading of other assets on your page. You could then have a page speed issue that can indirectly cause issues with SEO.

Last moz index 40 days + Ago
Hello! Thanks for jumping in Tim! The Mozscape index is indeed an automated process - but sadly our Sep release was cancelled. I would definitely recommend jumping over to Rand's Q&A post for more details on what exactly went down. I hope this additional information helps to clarify!

Referral Spam
According to Google, they don't use any Google Analytics related data for rankings - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgBw9tbAQhU Is it a type of commercial warfare by competitors? No, it's spam, which is targeted towards your curiosity - "oh, I got this visit from this website. Let me check it out". The only negative effect is polluting your GA reports and data. Fortunately, there is a way to setup filters and block all ghost and referral spam. Here is an article - https://moz.com/blog/stop-ghost-spam-in-google-analytics-with-one-filter About experience with it - yes, I have been fighting it for quite long time by now and what I see is that the amount of referral and ghost spam to our website grows like crazy, however rankings are not affected at all. At least, they are growing, accordingly to our SEO work.

WMT Fetch as Google
Hi, Internal linking can be a fantastic way to build internal page authority and to give more emphasis to particular pages. In a simple way, here is how it works... -- Create amazing article related to the page you are trying to rank for -- High up in the copy, create a target anchor text that leads to the page you are trying to boost. Make the anchor text the same / very similar to your desired phrase - but make sure it makes sense. Have a read of this article over at eConsultancy. This goes through it in a lot more detail and will show you exactly what you need to be doing. I personally have had some astounding successes with this. The article you create should be better than the norm though. You want something that will get shared socially and hopefully, result in some backlinks too. -Andy

Kickstarting a New Site
I agree that getting the fundamentals right is your first port of call and John's link above is a great start which covers many of the aspects you really need to get right. I would also suggest making sure you have all the relevant social channels linked up and being interacted with, this should help you generate additional engaged traffic to your site. Secondly, if you have a local presence for the business get started with this. Moz Local would be a good place to start as this should provide you with additional SEO benefits. Finally, you mentioned you are getting a lot of referral bot/spam traffic, I would suggest you try and clean up your analytics and block unwanted crawlers as without you will find it hard to determine genuine traffic to your site. There is a great article from Carlos Escalera on removing ghost referral spam that I would highly recommend you read. Hope that all helps.

Duplicate Content with URL Parameters
Think I've sussed it. There is only about three or four main parameters so went to GA, Behaviour more > site content > all pages Then did a search for part of the parameter name, sure enough you are right only a handful of visits. Many Thanks Is duplicate content of this sort actually a major issue? Especially considering Google should already know from Webmaster tools that these are parameter pages.
