Javacript & Schematic Markup for Local SEO
Hi Rosemary, Miriam has the right idea - Google probably can crawl your marked-up JavaScript, but whether they will actually use it in e.g. rich snippets is up to them. You can apply semantic markup to the individual containers that each piece of third-party data is pulled into, and that should work.

Moz Local is saying a 800 is not okay...does it really negatively impact citations/rankings?
Hey Joe, I'd be careful of this, myself. Google is very specific about not wanting redirecting phone numbers. The guidelines state: Website & Phone Provide a phone number that connects to your individual business location as directly as possible, and provide one website that represents your individual business location. Use a local phone number instead of central, call center helpline number whenever possible. Do not provide phone numbers or URLs that redirect or "refer" users to landing pages or phone numbers other than those of the actual business, including pages created on social media sites.

Can we place a FB business page link instead of direct domain link in a Google My Business listing?
Hi Rosemary, Glad you've asked. Google has just become quite specific about this practice. Here are their guidelines: Website & Phone Provide a phone number that connects to your individual business location as directly as possible, and provide one website that represents your individual business location. Use a local phone number instead of central, call center helpline number whenever possible. Do not provide phone numbers or URLs that redirect or "refer" users to landing pages or phone numbers other than those of the actual business, including pages created on social media sites So, in short, no. You should not link to the client's Facebook Place from their Google+ Local page. Studying the guidelines can be super helpful in researching the answers to client questions like these: https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177?hl=en Google is sometimes totally clear about a policy, like the above. Other scenarios have grey areas. This one is, fortunately, easy to answer:)

Concerned about cannibalization for local SEO results. Should we move some of our location pages to a subdomain?
Hi Rosemary, Thanks for the clarification. For a pharmacy chain (or any other franchise) here is what would typically be appropriate: You have a single website. This website has some basic pages like home, about, specials, contact and what have you. In addition to this, you build a unique page of high quality for each of your locations. I don't recommend subdomains. I recommend subfolders. So, this would look like: thepharmacy.com/sugar-land for your store in Sugar Land Texas, and thepharmacy.com/dallas, for your store in Dallas. If you have more than one location in a city like Dallas, your URLs might look like thepharmacy.com/dallas-deep-ellum and thepharmacy.com/dallas-highland-park. Put the complete contact info (NAP) at the top of each page and then create strong content to make the pages interesting, helpful and unique. From your Sugar Land citations, across the web, be sure you are linking to the landing page you've created on the site for Sugar Land, ditto for Dallas citations, etc. This would be considered a standard methodology for any multi-location business. How you then showcase these pages on the website needs to be dictated by the number of locations you have. You want them to be easy to find. You might check out a chain like REI.com. Look at how they are surfacing locations for their users and how they are making their pages unique. They do a good job! Hope this helps!

Seeing different Google 3-Pack results on Android mobile browsers vs. IOS mobile browsers. Why is this?
Hi Rosemary, The dust has definitely not settled. Linda Buquet and Joy Hawkins have been documenting numerous different Snack Pack styles. Here are some links to get you started on this: http://imprezziomarketing.com/seo-blog/google-maps/4-observations-about-googles-new-snak-pak-local-search-display/ http://www.localsearchforum.com/google-local/35962-no-reviews-stars-new-local-3-pack-yet-another-google-test.html Linda has quite a few threads on her forum regarding the Snack Pack, so you might comb through those to see if anyone has reported what you are seeing regarding Android vs. Apple. I can't recall, per se, seeing that mentioned, but there has been so much news about this, it's hard to remember everything If no one else has documented it, maybe you'd like to! From what I've seen, I don't believe Google has settled on a preferred style of these yet, hence the variations being reported. Stirring times!

Recommended hosting companies for best TTFB?
Do you know what kind of account your client has? Is it a shared / vps / or ededicated machine they are using? Also, is their site primarily static? Or does it update constantly or have interactive updating features like an e-commerce site.

What is the best way to correct 403 access denied errors?
Hello Rosemary, The main problem with this 403 error is, it generally means that the website’s server is blocking Googlebot’s access. These errors are indeed bad for SEO because the search engines can’t crawl that page. I'd like to know why are they 403 actually? Do the pages exist but any authorization is required? If any authorization is required, redirect the users to the login page. I don't think putting a 301 is ideal in this case but rather set a custom 403 page and put a no-index tag on it so they don't show up. Hope this helps! Thanks,

Can you do strict CPC advertising on Facebook?
As Kyle says below, CPC isn't Facebook's preferred method, but it is doable. I think you're confusing the language you reference as meaning payment to be viewed instead of minimum CPC for your ad over a competitors. In other words it sounds like they're saying, "If you set your bid at $10 per click while your next closest competitor is at $1.31 per click, we'll only charge you $1.32 per click, not $10." Make sense? Kyle outlines well how to set up a CPC campaign. You might want to split test between CPC and CPM though depending on your content, sales, and marketing needs. Cheers!

How bad are 403 errors compared to 404s in regards to technical SEO?
Hi there It really depends on the purpose of that page and if it exists. What is it supposed to be? Is there another page on your site that has the content contained on this page previously? Content lives elsewhere - 301 redirect, remove from sitemap, and update internal links / backlinks Page is gone for good and has no where to go - Create a 404 page that's useful. Remove from sitemap and update links / backlinks to a new page Hope this helps! Good luck

Moving my photography business to another state. Is it possible to transfer Google My Business listing WITHOUT losing my Google Reviews?
Hi Rosemary Yes! You should be just fine. According to Google: If your business moves from one location to another and keeps the same business name, Google will generally move the reviews to the new location. There are some exceptions for businesses heavily tied to their locations, like hotels, golf courses or scenic attractions. You can read more at Moving Reviews Across Google+ Pages. If you have any other questions let me know! Good luck!

Facebook is now only allowing owners of FB pages (not admins) to create keys for a WP blog post syndication. Is there a way around this?
Hello Rosemary, This is the Nextscript announcement your contractor is talking about: [Update – May 2014] Facebook changed some rules regarding the apps. This means that the Facebook App, Facebook profile or page and the user who authorizes the app MUST belong to the same Facebook account. So please make sure you are logged to Facebook as the same user who created the app. You definitely don't need to give your client's personal FB access to a third party BUT you should create the Facebook App (keys) by yourself and finally go to the wordpress and authorize the access. Detailed instructions here: http://www.nextscripts.com/instructions/facebook-social-networks-auto-poster-setup-installation/ I'm afraid there's no other way! Hope this helps! Luis

Does having redirects in a Adwords text ad destination URL hurt quality scores?
Hi Rosemary, In simple term answer would be No, that won't have a negative impact on your QS because the landing page is the web page the user lands after all redirects. Second thing I would like to point out is Remember that the most important "component" of the QS is CTR. Thanks

Our client's web property recently switched over to secure pages (https) however there non secure pages (http) are still being indexed in Google. Should we request in GWMT to have the non secure pages deindexed?
You could use a tool like Xenu to check that all of the urls on your clients website do indeed now redirect to https, or to be extra sure, you should add a redirect to the websites .htaccess (or web.conf on windows hosting) to force a 301 redirect on all http pages to https. As for indexing http, if they redirect to https correctly when you view them, then you'll just have to wait for google to catch up. No harm done in the mean time.

Is a .tv domain good for video optimization?
Adding to the guys' responses above, the .tv name was originally a country level domain for Tavula but of course was quickly taken up by non local businesses for obvious reasons. A couple of years ago google updated a number of country level domains - inlcuding .tv - to be considered generic top level domains (so for example you can set geo targeting options in google webmaster tools). This article (a couple of years old now) has a video from Matt Cutts saying be careful using country level domains for something they were not intended for, but as the update mentioned above shows, the general trend to use .tv names for video type sites is not something google is unaware of. You will still of course need to do the hard work, the domain itself is unlikely to help you rank any better - it is more a branding/marketing hook.
