Yes, i think it is EMD. i'll build more thanks, thanks for the input!
I just checked and don't see any messages that are saying i have an issue. I think this was EMD.
I just read up on the EMD algo change and i think that was it. i'm going to have to build more links to get it back i think....thanks everyone for the input!
No, i always keep my customized search set to off. i checked my ranking by typing in "austin wedding venues" in google in internet explorer. This isn't just a simple drop from competitors building links and knocking me down a few places. my site has disappeared from the serps. any clue as to why this happened? I'm stumped....
my site has disappeared from the serps. Could someone take a look at it for me and see if they can find a reason why? It used to rank around 4 for the search "austin wedding venues" and it still ranks number three for this search on Bing. I haven't done any SEO work on it in a while so i don't think i did anything to make Google mad but now it doesn't even rank anywhere in the top 160 results. Here's the link:

Hi Andy! My website is the thegrooves.net and if you type in austin bands, my austin bands page comes up number one.
Hi Andy! My website is the thegrooves.net and if you type in austin bands, my austin bands page comes up number one.
Hi Andy! Yes, i own the local page. I just took another look at it and it links to three different websites that have rave reviews on my business so i don't think i want to delete it. Is there a way to put a description on my google plus page so that google will add that description to the serps? I have already filled out the "from the owner" description so i think i'm dead in the water on this until google changes their algorhythm to list my meta description again.
My site is listed in the serps at number one but where google used to list the name of my site with the meta description below it, now Google lists my site title with my address to the right side and below it says Google+page instead of listing my meta description which had my key search phrase in it and also a call to action to see my video on my site. My click through was much better with the meta description below it and the call to action. is there any way i can get the description back under my title in the serps? Maybe by deleting my Google + page?
Thanks in advance,
Ron
I stumbled across the whoisbusinesslistings.com directory and noticed that it's home page is page rank 4 and in the listing it allows do follow links to your site. They don't have pricing listed on the site though which scares me. Only a link to a sales person. Anyone know how much they charge and if it would be worth looking into?
Thanks mozzers!

Five of my friends linked to my site from their website and updated their sites through Google Webmaster tools right after linking to my site. Though the Google spider crawled the site as soon as they updated their pages, it still took about three weeks for my site to get a bump in the serps from their links. Why does it take that long for links to kick in and what is the average time it normally takes to see an increase in ranking from links once Google discovers them?
Thanks mozzers!

Hi Mozzers! I'm thinking about putting a page with some interesting comedy content on my site as link bait and had a few questions on how i should go about it.
1. Should I link to this page from my home page or would it be better to build outside links to it and then funnel all the page rank to the pages on my site that i want ranking higher? I've been told that page rank is a tiny factor in ranking in the serps so is it worth doing if the only reason i'm building it is to funnel page rank to my important pages? The link bait page content will be on the same subject as my entire site so it will definitely help google associate my site with my product from the incoming links.
2. if a web page on my site receives links does it help other pages on my site to rank higher or just the page with the incoming links? One time i had a flurry of links pop up to my home page and it seemed like all my pages started ranking higher, but it might just have been coincidence? Any thoughts?
3. What's a good way to get my page seen by the masses to draw links? I thought about buying some stumbles on Stumbleupon to get it seen quickly but are there more or better ways to do this?
Thanks in advance everyone!

I was looking through some of the directories in the seomoz directory list and a lot of them are paid directories. What should i be looking for to decide if these directories are worth paying for a link? obviously if the page my link is listed on is in fact indexed by google. What about the following questions:
1. what about page rank of the page that it's on? Does that matter? i've heard that one page rank 5 link carries the weight of hundreds of page rank zero links. Is this true?
2. What does it mean if the page rank is unranked? Is it worth paying for a link if the page is old and is unranked?
3. i read in an SEO forum that there are many other things i should look at in a directory besides page rank. Obviously traffic is one but what about other not so obvious things?
4. How many directory links at one time is too many? how many is too many over a long period of time?
THanks in advance for your help Mozzers!

Could you set up these microsites on the same server as your main website? Like, having a separate folder in your public html folder with its own index.htm and pages? This way, you wouldn't have to pay for a new hosting company.
I was told that Google uses Twitter traffic as a ranking factor. How could i use Twitter to boost the rankings of my website? i play in a live band if that helps you to generate some ideas for me.
Thanks in advance for everyone's input!

I've noticed some folks buying keyword rich domain names and pointing them to one site to try to rank for those keywords. An example of this is a plumbing business that buys domains like austinplumber.com, localaustinplumbingservice.com, bestplumberinaustin.com and then pointing these domains to their main website. Does this help the site rank for these key phrases? How does google see this?
Thanks mozzers!

You said, "I would also put a page on the site for each city and use Google Maps, etc. on that page for that location."
I already have a page on the site for each city telling about the different venues in those cities we have performed in, etc. What exactly did you mean about using Google Mapes on that page for that location? Thanks so much for your help!
Take care,
Ron
I have a band that performs all over my state and was wondering if i could add my business to google local listings in all the cities that my band performs in. How would i go about that being as there would be only one phone number and no local address? I'd love to get the traffic from the local listings that come up for certain search phrases. I wasn't sure if Google would look at that as spamming though. I do have contract musicians that play with us in each of those cities and could list their home address as the address just in case i have to have an address on the listing that is local. How do businesses that provide services in multiple cities by traveling to those cities usually list their businesses? any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Thanks everyone for your info. Most of you seemed concerned about my onsite SEO and i had a professional SEO guy build my entire site from scratch using only html and no flash, etc. The page is hand built and optimized for the key phrases far better than the competitor's page that is outranking me. Here is my theory: Google always gives you a boost about a month or so later after you build about 10 or 15 links to your site and then after a few months of no links you start falling again until you get new links. I think this flurry of new links has temporarily boosted my competitor and they will start falling again unless they start building new links. I think Joe Ant and the other directories are well respected enough that Google will count these links but the pages in the directories are low enough page rank that they won't keep my competitor high in the rankings for very long. Do any of you agree with me or have any opinnions based on your experience with this? I'd love to hear your experiences. Thanks again for your input!
