It's an option, I think u'd get away with it... but generally i'd say you are far better building links to your main site.. the more high quality links u have to one domain, the better everything tends to rank on that domain...so splitting authority between several domains is probably a bad idea.

RE: Is this against google rules
I dont think it would hurt you if u 301d the domains to your main site... Though I dont think it would help as the new domains would have no authority.

Tool?
Hi mozzers,
I was wondering if theres anything out there that would crawl a site and sort your pages into the number of words they have?

RE: Getting rid of low quality
Thanks, Wayne, I never thought about link juice flowing to those pages, I'll have to check that out before making a decision. All the pages I want to remove are in the same directory, so would adding the text below to robots.txt remove all the pages in that directory from the index?

RE: Where do you find quality content writers?
Elance can be good, but it's often hit and miss. You may have to go through a few poor ones to find a gem.

Getting rid of low quality
If I wanted to get rid of a batch of low quality pages from the index, Is the best practise to let them 404 and remove them from sitemap files?
Thanks

RE: Commenting on an old post
If you can add something relevant and useful to the comments, I don't think it will hurt.

RE: Understanding competitors link building tactics (possibly black hat stuff that seems to work)
- Where do people usually source these blogs which typically contain material on a range of different topics? Are these probably paid links?
If they are small articles on a blog, they may be using blogvertise.com. A blog network that lets you buy links on the blogs on the network. The owner of the blog writes you a very small article with your link for a fee.
- How do they get so much content out there, albeit similar content, to so many of the hastily cobbled efforts? Would that be an agency with connections or a blogging community site?
blogvertise.com again
- How can any search engine lend credibility to my competitor’s links when the article below has nonsense for penis enlargement stuff. Seriously?!?
Often these kind of tactics work for a time, but often they eventually do get some kind of penalty. These grey/blackhat tactics can work for months, or even years..often depending on how black they are.
- How are they not being penalised?
They might at some pont.
It’s frustrating because these aren’t the tactics I want to employ but they seems to offer success, but also, if your link is in an article that followed by another on penis pills, how I can take Google seriously in its stated aim of making things this prone to manipulation.
I always think a lot of link building is somewhat grey unless someone is linking to your content because its awesome without any incentive or encouragement. It's not perfect, but you have to work with it.

RE: Generic domain for SEO versus Brand name
If you've got a great brandable domain, i'd go with that personally. A keyword domain definately does help with seo, but if long and cumbersome, it will be harder to remember, which could lead to less people remembering it and returning, especially if it has hyphens. Also, many people suspect the seo keyword domains will lower in importance over time, myself included.

RE: Forum software penalties
If you a bit of it on a well established site with many highly trusted links, It may have a postive effect. If you did lots of it on a brand new site, It may do more harm than good.

RE: How much effect does number of outbound links have on link juice?
In my experience links on highly trusted sites are more valuable than links on low quality sites. I wouldn't stress too much about the number of outbound links on a page. An authoritative and editorial link on harvard.edu would be more valuable with 100 other OBL than a link on a lower trust site/page with only 10 obl. Of course this is only my opinion, many people disagree with me.

RE: Article Marketing for Backlinks
It's probably better to write a unique article for every place you submit them to, so theres no duplicate content issues. It might help a little, but it's certainly a somewhat questionnable link building method today. I've had success article marketing campaigns as far as getting traffic to the articles, then funnelling it to my sites, but not as far as increasing search traffic from the backlinks.

RE: May links from Google Adsense ads increase my PR?
No, unfortunately not. links from adsense have no impact on rankings.

RE: Link values
thanks for your answer guys! Sean, I do whatever is neccesary to get the .edu.. at least anything that isn't against the google guidelines!

Link values
I have an interesting question, it's more to see other peoples opinions than looking for an exact answer, as I know noone can give that.
If you had a good link on harvard.edu.. how many very low quality links on low DA domains that are full of junk, would you need to match the harvard link... if all other factors were equal.
I'm gonna go for 500.. I've had great results with a few high DA/trust links.
I'm not looking for anyone to give me a definative answer, just curious as to the views of other SEOs

RE: Keyword Rich Domain Redirects to Brand Name But How Will SEO Work For It?
If you redirect the keyword domain to a branded domain, they keyword domain won't show up in SERPs after googles worked it all out.
