Thanks Anthony - Not what I was hoping for, but guess white hat is the only way!

RE: Social bookmarking
Ryan,
Yes, I totally agree with what you're saying. It's a little harder in my industry as it's a loan site and to be honest it's fairly hard to create content for people to get too excited about, especially given the ongoing economic impact and stricter eligibility on financial products.
Also, if you've got any tips to generate twitter/social followers of a site it would be greatly received.
Ideally I wouldn't talk about grey/black hat areas at all and I didn't expect to get responses promoting social bookmarking services - guess I was hoping for a 'quick win'

Social bookmarking
What does the forum think the best strategy for social bookmarking is?
Obviously white hat, user generated would be preferable but looking slightly darker; you can obviously get services that create social bookmarks over a period of several weeks, but are they worth the investment?

RE: New Links added
If it's seeing the actual banklinks that molachef is after and not a ranking change, then yep, very true.

RE: What am I doing wrong?
2000 UV's a day! I'd kill for that!
If you want to expand, maybe you should target some new keywords. You could try some PPC targetting potential new keywords and see how many UVs they bring in before aiming for one

RE: How do I get quality, relevant backlinks?
Yep, link building is a tedious process and requires a fair amount of input and effort. Of course you could go down the 'black hat' method of submitting to spammy article sites and link directories, but that's probably not a good way to go, especially in the long term.
Creating some truly unique and quality content and getting it out in the social media should hopefully get other people to create natural links to your site, but this isn't always easy.
You could always use an SEO company

RE: Aged .com domain or brand new .co.uk for UK site?
For UK searches, google will recognise that a .co.uk site is probably more relevant than a .com if you were just comparing by that factor alone, but there are many, many factors that are more importance than this which make up a ranking.
Also, it's worth bearing in mind that if you transfer a domain to a new registrant and the site from a content perspective wasn't existent before or the content is changed dramatically in the process (or around the same time) then the domain age will most likely have very little impact. In fact factors such as how long you renew the domain for will probably have more impact. For example if you buy the domain for 4 years it will look less spammy than a 1 year renewal.

RE: New Links added
Google can pick up on links pretty quickly now days and you might even see some changes within a day. If you add a lot of good links at the same time, your site might get thrown into the limelight for a bit (or downgraded if google doesn't like the links), but if you don't keep up your seo it could loose momentum and fall back down.
You should probably add links evenly over time, not a load in one go as this could be seen as a link building scheme.
SEOMoz does a ranking check every Monday, so on the next update you may start to see the results.

RE: Does google use the wayback machine to determine the age of a site?
Google uses WHOIS to determine the age of the domain under a current ownership, however if the WHOIS data changes and at the same time the content of the site changes dramatically, Google may reset the domain age of the site in their opinion.
I'm not sure but I would imagine Google have their own records on domain age outside of WHOIS registration.

RE: We have Lost Ranking After Panda update on all 6 websites
The Panda Bear is such a complicated beast, it's hard to narrow down what the problem could be without thoroughly looking at your sites. We had a similar problem on a previous update and had to try many different things to sort the problem, ultimately I think it was a combination of things on our sites that happened to trigger one of Panda's algorithms into dropping our ranking.
It's probably worth bearing in mind that sites do sometimes disappear from G when updates take place. It's happened to us before and within a couple of weeks the site came back to where it was. I'd suggest trying to improve your sites in this time though, so that when your site is next crawled, G can see that you're starting to make improvements.
One of the main things that seems to affect panda is duplicate content on your sites, so if you've got various pages with the same or similar content then I would suggest using the canonical tag to sort them out.
Looking at your sites quickly, I've noticed that;
-
Some sites (e.g. Wannapack) have a high number of inbound links from relatively small amount of domains. This could sometimes suggest a link scheme.
-
The link profile on some of your sites contains a lot of 'spammy' directories and article sites. It may be worth trying to get some higher quality links from genuine sites, perhaps packaging review sites or how to sites.
-
It may be worth getting rid of some old content and putting some new high quality content on your sites. Panda can often downgrade a site just for having one or two 'poor quality' pages.
-
Try and limit the amount of duplicate content you are using across your sites. After all G can see they're sitting on the same server and may look at this in a negative way.
Try looking at the page below for tips on link building with Panda;

I'm sure there's people on here who could direct you better than me on this topic, but as a starter I hope this helps!

RE: Will changing domain registration details affect ranking?
Thanks Ryan. You're pretty on the ball with answering questions

Will changing domain registration details affect ranking?
Hi all,
I've got a .co.uk site that I want to update the domain registrant account details for. The change will involve registering the domain to a limited company name rather than an individual and possibly changing the registered address.
Does anyone know whether this could affect google rankings? I've heard of stories of sites losing their PR because the registrant details have changed and I don't really want that to happen!
Thanks in advance for any help

RE: Why is our site jumping all over the place?
Hi Ryan,
The site is http://www.guarantorloanscompany.co.uk and the keyword is guarantor loans
Google have confirmed in the past there's no penalty on the site and no rules have been violated.
No changes were made between the site being on page 1 and falling on each occassion.
We made some changes to the site the last time it fell (such as changing the links from graphics to text and cutting down on internal links to the homepage), but it's been back on page 1 since then.
We don't do anything with local search and as far as I know we haven't lost any major links. In fact, I would say we've gained some good links recently.

Why is our site jumping all over the place?
Hi there,
We've been having some issues with our site recently where it seems to be jumping very erratically around the google rankings.
The site used to be pretty consistent on page 1/2 of google for certain term, but then in late April(ish) it took a dive down the rankings and flicked about between positions 30-70(ish). Late last month, it re-appeared suddenly on page 1 in position 10 and stayed there up until yesterday (6th July) and it now appears to have dived to position 287th or there abouts!
At the same time a deep link page has appeared at position 54, which seems a bit strange to me.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
