Is buying traffic from Internet traffic club harmful to rankings
Hye! I think if you are using an adult site or health site, it may cause an issue in ranking. On average, if you make safe and healthy links you will always get ranked.

Rankings dropped
Hi Maureen! Meghan from the Help Team here at Moz. Thanks so much for the great question! I'm sorry to hear about your client's rankings. I do want to make sure to mention Domain Authority is not a metric used by Google in determining search rankings and has no effect on the SERPs. Regarding the keyword ranking changes you’re seeing in your Campaign, I’d be glad to take a closer look. I’ll reach out to you shortly via email once I investigate!

Domain Authority hasn't recovered since August
Thanks for your responses Maureen From what I know, sometimes when you alter your site to be 'faster', you sometimes have to wait a few days for that to start reflecting in the page-loading speeds. I am pretty sure that, if you have server-side caching enabled, and resources have been cached (previously) non-compressed, then sometimes the old resources will continue being served to people for days (or even weeks) after alterations are made This is certainly true of image compression (where the old JPG / PNG files continue to be served after being replaced with more highly compressed versions, since the cache has not refreshed yet) - I am unsure of whether that applies to GZip compressed files or not (sorry!) From what I understand, page-speed optimisation is not a straightforward, linear process. For example many changes you could make, benefit 'returning' visitors whilst making the site slower for fir-time visitors (and the reverse is also true, there are changes which take you in both directions). Due to these competing axioms, it's often tricky to get the best of both. For example, one common recommendation is to get all your il-line (or in-source) CSS and JS - and place it in '.css' or '.js' files which are linked to by your web pages Because most pages will call in the 'separated out' CSS or JS files as a kind of external common module (library), this means that once a user has cached the CSS or JS, it doesn't have to be loaded again. This benefits returning site-users. On the flip-side, because external files have to be pulled in and referenced on the first load (and because they often contain more CSS / JS than is needed) - first time users take a hit. As you can see, these are tricky waters to navigate and Google still doesn't make it clear whether they prefer faster speeds for returning or first-time users. In my experience, their bias floats more towards satisfying first-time users Some changes that you make like compressing image files (and making them smaller) benefit both groups, just be wary of recommendations which push one user-group's experience at the expense of another For image compression, I'd recommend running all your images (download them all via FTP to preserve the folder structure) through something like Kraken. I tend to use the 'lossy' compression algorithm, which is still relatively lossless in terms of quality (I can't tell the difference, anyway). Quite often developers will tell me that a 'great' WordPress plugin has been installed to compress images effectively. In almost all cases, Kraken does a 25%-50% better job. This is because WP plugins are designed to be run on a server which is also hosting the main site and serving web-traffic, as such these plugins are coded not to use too much processing power (and they fail to achieve good level of compression). I'm afraid there's still no substitute for a purpose-built tool and some FTP file-swapping :') remember though, even when the images are replaced, the cache will have to cycle before you'll see gains... Hope that helps

New domain wipes out domain authority
Hi There, I understand your concern and know how it feels when it looks like one has to start from scratch for establishing Domain authority. Whenever a domain is transferred (hoping it was done with utmost care to transfer authority), it takes search engines and other Bots take a couple of weeks or even months to understand that they have to point to the new website for the searched phrases. The reason is that links are re-crawled, and that takes its own sweet time. In the meantime, if you can start working on directly establishing authority for the new domain, it would be a bonus for DA when eventually bots have re-established and re-configured their serps. I hope it helps. Let me know if you have further questions, I will be happy to answer them. Regards, Vj

Why doesn't the Keyword Explorer "Explore By Site" work?
Hi Maureen, I'm sorry to hear - There must of been some kind of error as we normally respond within 24hrs. The last message sent from your @insight email seems to of been 8 months ago. If you head into any page of your Campaigns, you should be able to see a little blue chat bubble in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. If you click on that, you will be able to set up a new help ticket.

How can I connect Moz Local to my client's Facebook page?
Thanks for the reply Tawney, I will send an email to help@ because there are some issues to do with Facebook, eg when editing the address for the business on the Facebook page, the city name does not come up, so I can't get the Facebook NAP details to exactly match the Moz Local address (the latter is correct). regards, Maureen

Will Google Data Highlighter support other schemas?
Maureen, I wanted to be sure, so did a bit of research and there are a very limited set of markups using the highlighter. Here is the list that is similar to what you see in the dropdown on the highlighter. Given how long the highlighter has been available, my guess would be we won't see anything else that this works with. I am not sure why, but it has stayed like this for a long time. Best

Setting timescales in Custom Reports
Some modules are default monthly such as links data since those update when our index updates. Are there any specific modules you are trying to add that does not have the time frame option? Rankings won't appear the same way, you can toggle weekly/monthly above the graph/chart on the right side Crawls are weekly only as there isn't a "monthly" option to show a list of all errors. The only module you should add here will be for the Issues Overview and priority tabs to show the summary. Use CSV reports to export links data as the rows in a PDF report may not generate if there are too many links. CSVs will show the full URLs while the PDFs will not. Links are monthly only since this data is imported directly from our Mozscape Index. Let me know if this helps!

Why is OSE showing a higher Domain Authority than Moz?
Sorry if that wasn't clear! By "soon" I meant within the aforementioned 24 hour window. We fixed this ~11:45am today, and the collections are beginning at 4pm this afternoon, so by 4pm tomorrow, you should see data (I just talked to the team and they said it might take a big more time than that - maybe 30-36 hours depending on where your campaign might see in the queue of those needing updates).

Why are only PDFs on my client's site being indexed, and not actual pages?
Thank you so much, Anders, I am getting the client to change this immediately. Brilliant answer!

Confused about the link metrics showing up in MOZ & OSE
Thanks very much for getting back to me, Jordan. Yes it does clarify and I hadn't realised I could toggle between domain & subdomain like that. It makes sense now! Have a good weekend

UK Sub-Domain question
hemblem5 has started this off perfectly. Firstly, yes I do live in the UK. A caching issue could potentially be the problem, it'd be interesting to see if that's what fixed the issue. Just to expand on hemblem5's point, the best way to see exactly how many pages Google has indexed, is by using the search operator **site: **(kudos to hemblem5 for mentioning) Using this search operator on both the US and UK site, we can see the following results: site:itelligencegroup.com/uk/ Google is currently indexing 1,160 pages vs. site:us.itelligencegroup.com Google is currently indexing 879 pages We can also see that when using: site:itelligencegroup.com Google is currently indexing 3,130 pages From a quick look at the above, I can also see that the domain has 3 sub-domains: us.itelligencegroup.com blog.itelligencegroup.com 975 pages indexed myaccount.itelligencegroup.com 7 pages indexed I think going forward, the best thing to do would be to see how many pages you actually have across the site. If there all being indexed then there's no huge issue regarding making changes. If they're not then I recommend following my advice in the previous post. A good tool to use to find all your pages is Screaming Frog SEO Spider Tool. However I would recommend running the tool outside of peak visiting hours as it can sometimes cause the host server to slow down in response time due to the large number of requests. If you have any questions just ask. Let me know how you get on. Thanks SilverDoor

Domain authority dropped a lot in last month
Hi Maureen relating to what Keri was referring to on DA doing down. I see on my main site that for August in OSE my DA has dropped a couple of points but so have all the competitors I measure against. My KPIs such as lead generation, inbound inquiries etc. have not dipped as a consequence. Like Thomas comments I tend to see subtle impacts on my site's SERPs when comparing tools such as MOZCAST but that is more a short term issue and generally they resolve upwards over the longer term - which is a better metric. Can you set objectives for an SEO campaign?
Hi Maureen, I always get this upon setup of a new client. I think the main thing is to manage their expectations because many people outside of the digital industry are either unaware of the potential of SEO or think it can do more than it can! Find out what marketing objectives they have and then see where SEO can help. For example, if they are aiming to increase brand awareness (which most companies want) then look at increasing the number of keywords they rank for. You can set traffic targets if they have a history you can compare with, look at their rankings they had when they reached those targets, see where you think you will be able to get them and base your objectives on that. Totally agree with Jeremy on the "under sell, over achieve" thought though.

Why are good authority links to my site not showing?
Unfortunately, we are experiencing a delay, due to an attempt to expand and improve the crawl. I don't have an exact ETA, but this is our TOP priority and we definitely regret the issues people are having. I would double-check that Google has indexed and re-cached the page with the link on it. It's not instantaneous, in practice. Also make sure the link isn't nofollow'ed, etc.

Is it ok to put a strapline on every website page or does it confuse the bots?
Thanks Robert, that makes total sense. I'll go ahead and keep the tagline and the address - I agree about the Google Places local search thing.
