I think many people have misinterpreted this article. They say that they have changed the way they categorise links in Webmaster Tools, it does not mention any change in the algorithm. Many comments on the article asked for clarification on this and here is the response:

"Re: all the search algorithm- and ranking-related questions: This update only changes how links are displayed in Webmaster Tools. It doesn't affect how links are valued in relation to the search algorithm or ranking. It has nothing to do with Panda, nothing to do with keywords, nothing to do with PageRank."

So you should still leak a bit of link juice from a 301.

The domain might be PR4 but what will the quality of the actual page containing your link be? Sounds too cheap to be honest. These could just be profile links, where the site is trusted and has a high PR but they will just create a profile page for you buried deep in the site with no value and no themed content around it.

I've done a lot of research in outsourcing link building and I've found that the quality links cost around $100 per link. obviously if it's a quality link it will take them time to find and negotiate the link acquisition

The redirect seems to be in place. Paste your URL, http://www.musicliveuk.com/about/feed, into this tool: http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/

You will see that the page is being 301 redirected to your about page. Webmaster Tools can take a while to update.

I think that means that it won't recommend other videos after your video has finished playing. You will probably still have all the ads popping up during the video though which is not ideal.

We are planning to host videos on our site for the first time.  It looks like YouTube is a bit too over focused on ads these days for commercial use, can anyone recommend any better video hosting services?

I also realize that hosting somewhere like YouTube has little SEO benefit, am I better off hosting them on our site if possible?

Please share your experiences with the various services and methods of hosting.

MozTrust and PageRank and two very different metrics. MozRank is calculated in a similar way to PageRank while MozTrust, as James explained, is used to determine if you are a trusted source by measuring your distance to other trusted sources.

Will that return a 301 header though? Shouldn't it include "R=301"?

The two will be viewed as entirely different pages. You will need to 301 redirect all .html pages to the .php version.

I've just had a very brief look and it seems that the menu is quite reliant on JavaScript (try disabling Javascript and you will see that you can't access most of your pages). Crawlers do not use JavaScript so this could be a problem.

The ideal way to do this sort of thing is by showing and hiding menus with CSS, not JavaScript. I can have a better look and provide you with more info tomorrow if you need it.

You'll need to post the URL of your website for us to give you a definite answer. Try browsing to your website then right click and select 'view source'. if you can't see the links in the source code then crawlers can't see them either.

Sometimes menus are built badly with JavaScript, you will probably need to ask your developers to change your menu.

I would try and stay clear of doing this to be honest. It won't validate, older browsers may have problems with it and I'm not sure how search engines would treat it (they may not follow it). There are better ways to do it.

If you set your anchor tag to 'display:block' you can then set the height and width too. This way the whole div would be the link, not just the text.

These errors don't affect you negatively at all, it's more for you to find errors in your site. Follow Alan's advice by looking at the 'links' data and fix the one's that are caused by any coding problems in your site. You will always get a certain amount of bad links coming from external sources, you can either just leave them or if you are finding many links to the same 404 page you can actually recapture that link juice by 301 redirecting them to a relevant page on your site.

If done carefully you may not see much (or any) drop in traffic. I've recently restructured the entire URL structure of a website and saw no drop in traffic or rankings. This was also on a Microsoft Server and I used this software for the URL rewriting - http://www.isapirewrite.com/

As long as all your 301 redirects are configured correctly (test thoroughly in your test environment before going live) the transition from the old URL's to the new URL's should be pretty seemless. It would be a good idea to submit a new sitemap shortly after the changes have been made to let the search engines know what your doing.

They look like two different pages to me. These links that you don't want, such as:

http://www.justinbieberoriginal.com/2010/09/page/3/

...are being created from your archive section, not the main navigation. if you want them to be in the same structure as your other URL's then you need to change the way your archive works.
