I'm in the same boat as Steve, Google's got it locked down in the UK and in my experience clients aren't willing to pay for anything other than Google optimisation. However, as you say Steve, good ranking on Yahoo / Bing usually follows success on Google. One thing I am looking into though is the Yahoo's Shopping search (Product Submit). It seems to be a largely untouched space in the UK and I'd be interested to hear if anyone's seen success with it. From my investigations so far it seems that you have to submit your feed in $s which is obviously a problem for UK merchants, however I see listings in £s. Do we have any UK experts in this field?

That is brilliant Marcus.  The if-else idea regarding the ID makes so much sense.  I will leave the old ones as is and change the ones from this point on. Thanks! p.s. I noticed that seomoz does the same thing with the Q&A urls.  This one's not too long because I asked a short question but some of the question urls in here are quite long!

So, if I get it right: -Rel-canonical is mostly to tell search engines which page to index. -A link shared on twitter or facebook or anywhere else for that matter that is a bitly will be like a 301 and will past most juice to my site. But here's what I still don't get....If my main page is a descriptive url (as above), but someone links to it using the ugly url (i.e. www.mydomain/question.php?id=1), will the juice from this link still help my page in the serps?  Would it be just as effective as if they had linked to the "correct" url?

What I'm not seeing addressed specifically in the thread is can the KW term within your H1 & Title differ? I get that if the whole title and whole header differ slightly like: Title: Best Plumber Local |100% Satisfaction Guaranteed! H1: Best Plumber Local offers 100% Satisfaction Guarantees! *Please note - not my best copywriting effort at play here Then it's not worth sweating over, so long as the searcher does't experience a disconnect between he SERP result and and the landing page messaging. My concern is over the need to target "ugly" KWs - terms that don't fit well in to the UX equation, but have exponentially more search volume than they "prettier" version.  Let's say "plumber local" has 1,000 monthly searches vs "local plumber" that has 300 monthly searches. But "local plumber" is much better for copy/user readability.  Can you use: Title for the SERP: Best Plumber Local |100% Satisfaction Guaranteed! H1 for UX: Best Local Plumber offers 100% Satisfaction Guarantees! ...and still be nicely optimized for "plumber local" assuming you can find a smooth way to work it into copy (easier than doing it in an H1), alt tag, and site has otherwise good authority/reputation. Also, ugly KW (plumber local) would be used in the url). Thanks is advance!

Until your site is the KickAss site in your SERPs just add something catchy to the title tag like "Schedule a Tour!" ....... or....... "Free Beer"........ or..... "See it Today!"

If the title is relevant to the content then that's good, but from a technical sense: You shouldn't repeat any word in a title more than twice, and each instance of that word should be separated by at least one other word. Then, you have to think about what the titles are going to be on your other pages, I'd say you're more in danger of keyword canibalization within your title in that example than of keyword stuffing (assuming the rest of the site is about back pain, etc...).

As Rand said above, the web app is pretty cool. Whilst there are a few other options / companies offering SEO campaign tracking, for me what makes the Moz guys stand out is: Q&A forum - Great for asking questions, or even answering them to get Kudos! Youmoz - the ability to write posts (I keep meaning to do this!) One-off tools... for times when you just want to run a quick check on something, produce something in a rush for a meeting etc, these tools can be handy But all in all, I guess its the 'package' of some of the industry leading tools, mixed with a wicked community , that makes seomoz an excellent 'one-stop shop' to monitor lots of metrics for your SEO campaign, produce reports, and also have a ub where you can read about the latest SEO happenings or techniques, and also actually ask questions when you need a hand. The allowance of 1 private question per month is actually pretty handy too. That's just my thoughts anyway!

You might be trying to go too general with it... figure out who you're targeting first then tailor the content to them.
