I think everyone is going to disagree with me, but I see nothing wrong with paid links. Sure Google does not like them, that has been established, but it is one of the best ways to go really and cannot be avoided if you want to grow. You want a link on a popular blog, Huffington Post, CNN, Elle Magazine, Glamour? How do you get it? You pay for it. We as SEO people and Google also needs to get over the idea that Adwords is the only way people monetize web sites. Links are bought and sold for every site that has traffic and paid writers. The SEO value of the link could be negligible, but if the link performs and you profit from it, why not do it. Now I am not saying go to a link farm and buy as many links as you can afford, but I am say the places that you want links, as a general rule they can be purchased. I had a client that sold things to women and she always wanted to be in Vogue. After she paid them for an article in their magazine there was a website write up included too. It worked out, she made money off of it.

RE: What's the Story on Mozscape Updates?
Yeah basically on the split index. I think it would give people a better view of how they are actually doing without exposing their data across the internet. It also seems like it could be a way of more accurately determining the DA, PA, and trust as well. And could also add more value to the product. Right now the link index only picks up a portion of the total links and then tried to determine a ranking method off of that. But in GWT there is a totally different set of links usually.
I think if you merged the GWT data, GA data, and the Moz data together things could be very powerful.
I realize a lot of people want to see just what they can do to improve their ranking and nothing more. But I tend to look at SEO as a whole picture and just want more traffic. I could really careless if it comes from Google, Bing, or some guys blog. So I think a link section would also help too. This is what I imagine in my head. Another section in our account that scrapes the referral pages out of our GA accounts and shows us how our backlinks are performing over time. That would be nice, because part of what a lot of us do is buy links in some way or another. It would let us know at a glance if a blog we want to target again is still pulling the traffic it was before. Things of that nature. But I think a real value is putting everything under one roof. GWT and GA are totally separate, having the information from both of those platforms merged into one would be awesome for me.

RE: What's the Story on Mozscape Updates?
I deal with a few enterprise grade clients on the server configuration end, just out of curiosity what language platform do you run on?
Also, while you are here I would like to make a feature request or inquire if it is in the pipeline.
I would like to see the index split into two subsets that are used to generate the rank / trust. I would like to see it use the GWT links and also the GA referrers. It could show a better scope and at the same time keep that data private.

Just out of curiosity are you running on your own network or off of a cloud like AWs or Google?

RE: Subdomain to subfolder migration - Analytics for After
I did the same about a year ago for my blog without adding the https. I generally would have just changed it then waited about a month, then added the https. With just changing ours it took about a month and the traffic was back up to the level it was at before. About 45 days in the traffic was higher and leveled out. I am guessing you have all of the redirects in place?

RE: What sources do you use to keep on top of SEO news?
I have a feedly account with most of the sites mentioned here piping into it. I also look at a few platform specific ones, or ecommerce specific ones like elastic commerce. But those are mainly because I deal in ecommerce.

RE: Can Google read content/see links on subscription sites?
I would say no. The content of the article other than what is seen is not in the source code. They could be showing something different to Google, but if they did it would be against Google's terms of service. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66355?hl=en

RE: Moz Crawler not working on beta site
If it does have a no index no follow, then the crawler acted as expected, right? It didn't index the pages or crawl them.

RE: Can you use schema markup to do this?
No I would invest in Schema, but in this case I personally think that the attributes listed would not be implemented in any search engine soon. Some of them you would have to use the additionalType and that would be one of my last guesses for attributes that would ever be included.

RE: Domain Extensions
There has been a lot of discussion about the different extensions lately, here are two that I have been in on
http://moz.com/community/q/london-and-long-terms-value-of-tlds
Personally I would not launch a site with them, it is unclear how search engines are going to handle them. There is too much user training to get them to use them currently as well. Buying them, for the cheap cost and the insurance of having them, sure, why not. But I would not do much with them. Maybe a static site with a contact form for the time being.

RE: Can you use schema markup to do this?
Is it possible to mark that up in schema? Sure. Is it supported and will be shown by any search engine, no on both counts. I personally would not invest time in it, maybe you can make all of that information part of the description for the time being.

RE: Penguin 3.0 - Very minor drops across the board. Don't think its a penalty, any ideas?
There are so many variables with SEO, I would give it at least a week unless you have seen a huge drop.

RE: Many have stolen our content. Rewrite vs. DMCA content removal?
The issue is not claiming originality to Google if you file a DMCA request, it is getting it removed from the host. I personally would try to get it removed from the sites article by article and see how that works out. I would craft a letter and copy both the host and the email address you can find for the website on the same email. Then with each one see what happens. I think you will get a good number of them removed.

RE: Which SSL should I get or does it even matter?
I wrote an article a while back with some basic information on the different types, you might find it helpful. http://dh42.com/blog/prestashop-ssl-certificates/

RE: What does Mozcape actually do and what types of businesses use it?
From my understanding Mozscape is the API for Open Site Explorer. You can build widgets with the Mozscape API if you wanted to offer the information in the Mozscape index to your clients. One example I can think of off my head is nibbler.silktide.com I am pretty sure they use link data from Mozscape.

RE: Which CMS is Perfect for White Label Product
You might look into PrestaShop if you are looking for an e-commerce solution. It supports having multiple stores on multiple domains from one central backoffice. It is not as light weight as Wordpress, but being open source it is easily customizable. I would think anything you use is going to have to be heavily modified to meet your requirements, the main bounding area I see is going to be your budget. There are some platforms that can handle the feature set I think you are wanting more readily out of the box, but some of them start licensing at over 50k a year.

RE: How to point a framework to your website
There is a bit more complexity in using a cname, but a lot of big systems should be able to handle it as a standard thing, unless there is an inherit security risk. I use them both with freshdesk and maxcdn. Like take this http://cdn.dh42.com/certified.png and this http://dh42.com/certified.png The one with the cdn prefix is actually loaded from maxcdn, but it just looks like it came from my sub domain. Same with my freshdesk account, it is at help.dh42.com, but it actually is on their server.
I would prefer a cname to a 301, but sometimes you don't have a choice. Do you currently have anything at the site you are wanting to redirect to NJoyn? Or are your just looking to make it easier when you need to tell people where to go to?

RE: .discount Domain Extensions
In general marketing terms a lot of people are not familiar with the next extensions. Like if I tell people to go to Moz, they assume I mean Moz.com. But if I tell them to go to Moz.discount, I think a lot of people might end up going to mozdiscount.com. You will have to train people away from .com's and to use the new extension. Just generally ask the non tech people you know if they know of any domain that is on the new extensions. I honestly cannot think of one. The only one outside of .com, org, .net, com.uk I ever use is .io.

RE: Leverage browser caching
You would actually add it to your htaccess file if you are using a linux server. This should help, http://www.feedthebot.com/pagespeed/leverage-browser-caching.html

RE: Are doorway pages black hat or white hat?
Do they add value to the site? Are they adwords pages? I have noticed a lot of companies are getting around the doorway pages seemingly by having them displayed for adwords ads. Like say having a doorway page for a city, and it is targeted to the add <city keyword="">so when you open it up it is basically a doorway page. I think it is a sketchy area, I would love to hear what others have to say about it. </city>
