What is your opinion of doing everything you said but, skipping the no-index and pointing the canonical at the original publishers site?

RE: Skewed results in Google
Yes totally. They are tailored by geographic location and by what they think your preference is. The best bet is using a different browserr with your ip address if you are trying for local. If you are trying to gauge nationally, you might try several browsers and vpn's to get a good handle.

RE: Should I pay to be in the Yahoo! Directory or whatever it is now?
I would think there would be no SEO value in it. Google frowns upon paid links so I am sure they treat that directory accordingly. As far as click through value I do not know.

RE: Issue with duplicate content
I am not very experienced with tumblr personally, but I am pretty sure it cannot be done because they don't give you access to what you would need. You would need access to the head section of each page so that you could put the canonical tag in.
One thing that MIGHT could work, but would be tricky and I would also consult with someone else about too, to see what they though. Is that if the url's are the same minus the sub domain, you could get apache to rewrite a canonical in the actual request header and send it over. I do not know if google would respect this, so I would ask others advice.

RE: Retailers: Are you using PayPal to accept payments ?
EGOL,
No problem. If you are thinking of switching to them one other thing I know that they do is pay aprt of the cost of getting their gateway integrated. Like I have mentioned before I work with PrestaShop, the Paypal Pro module for PrestaShop is $200. With all of my clients that have switched they I have gotten them to cover the module with an account credit. So that is something to look into as well to make it a seamless little out of pocket transfer too. If you need, I can PM you the person I generally work with at PP's email address, they are in the pro department.

RE: Retailers: Are you using PayPal to accept payments ?
I use paypal exclusively for my business as an ecommerce developer, but I have a lot of clients that use paypal for their standard ecommerce sites as well. If I were to make a recommendation I would say use standard and pro together. If you do that you offer your customers a regualr credit card type solution and also a paypal solution too. But one thing that is not advertised that a lot of people do not seem to know is if you handle over 5k in transactions a month, paypal will lower your standard rate by .5% to make it 2.4%. If you handle over 10k a month they will lower it to 1.9%. If you make it to the the 50k a month they will the price of both the pro and the standard yet further, but it is not a general cut you negotiate the rate at that point.

RE: Issue with duplicate content
Do you have control over the sub domain to add a canonical to it and point the canonical to the original content?

RE: Please can anyone recommend any GOOD 'TRAFFIC BUYING COMPANIES ?
I cannot really see a place in the market for a real one unless it is tied to an affiliate program on your end. Have you thought about setting up an affiliate program?

RE: Do you know worthy web directories
I would not call them the best place to get links from, but they are safe generally. I would suggest using Whitepsark.ca to find some directory sites, they list way more than anyone can tell you about. Since you are a Moz member you get a discount too, https://moz.com/perks

You do realize that bought traffic 99% of the time is bot traffic by farms in SE Asia that never actually look at your site, correct?

RE: Using a US CDN (Cloudflare) for a UK Site. Should I use a UK Based CDN as it says my server is based in USA
I have found cloudfront to be slow, I prefer a pass through cdn personally.

RE: Using a US CDN (Cloudflare) for a UK Site. Should I use a UK Based CDN as it says my server is based in USA
Cloudfare is not really seen as a CDN so I would think it would not matter actually. Plus I would imagine that Google is wise enough to know when a CDN is being used and not change how they view a sites localization because of it.

RE: How long does it take for google to update my meta tag des?
I did not, it was only one page so I used fetch as Google.

RE: How long does it take for google to update my meta tag des?
I have actually seen it happen in a matter of minutes from using fetch as Google. I had a client that left debugging on, on the site and it was printing an error message as the meta tag. It took about 10 minutes to get it cleared out using fetch as Google.

Would this be considered cloaking and would it be a bad move?
I posted this topic last night, http://moz.com/community/q/seo-dealing-with-a-cdn-on-a-site about issues I am having with a client's images falling out of index because they have a CDN now.
So I have come up with a work around, but it might be considered cloaking and I am not sure. A month ago we changed over to using a CDN and the images started falling out of the index after that. Currently when you land on a page the images are served from cdn.site.com What I am thinking about doing is detecting Google Bot and when Google Bot crawls the site serve images from site.com. The images will be the exact same images as served from the CDN so it is not a content switcharoo thing. It is just to try to get the images back in the index.
So would this be considered cloaking in your opinion?

RE: Is switching from a very old HTML table site to HTML5 going to make a big difference
I am imagining the site is not responsive if it is built with tables, so it will at least make a difference in the mobile search results if the site passes the Google mobile friendly test. Google says 50% or more of their search results are delivered through mobile now. If your site is not mobile friendly, it will not be displayed. So in short, it could right off the bat that way.

RE: How do we preserve images in google search after CMS migration?
I don't think your suggestion will work. Both of the platforms he mentioned are hosted, normally with hosted platforms you get very limited file access. I think to answer the question properly we would need to see a url format of your current images and the format of the new platform images. As it might have to be handled with re-directs, but you might also be able to pull some dns trickery too.

RE: Blog subdomain not redirecting
You are going to have to add a manual rewrite rule to the htaccess, preferably at the top. This might help, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1321123/redirect-from-subdomain-to-domain-htaccess But like Travis said, be careful, make a back up, because you can break your site doing this.

RE: Blog subdomain not redirecting
Can you access the pages at blog.yoursite.com? Do they show up in the browser? It could be an issue that has always been there that Google just found.

RE: Can I include "commissioned" posts in my link building strategy?
I don't generally recommend buying press releases as a strategy unless you are trying to hide things in search. It really works well for that. But I would be willing to bet by PR agencies they are not talking about the places that you can go buy a $399 package and have a blast done. They are talking about a different kind of advertising agency that might call Paul in the tech office and say "Hey man, I want this to run, how much?"
