No, they did all of their research just about that. Trust me, they can tell. Try to limit the number of ads, don't remove them, just limit to no more than 2 per page.

The one piece of feedback I can give is that your pages have way too much advertising. If Panda didn't affect you before I can see it doing it in the future. This competitor has tons of resources on the topic and seems to be a better result for broad terms like aspartame. If you want to rank for broad terms like that, I'd work at developing a resource center for searchers of that term. They could be looking up that broad of a word for many reasons, answer those and don't focus on the ads. Focus on being the best answer for the query.

While this is not the best use of their time and something that as a consultant I'd recommend against, the content on that page is not duplicated from what I can tell. The page is about aspartame and links to other articles on the subject. It looks like the content is on other sites, but I can't determine who scraped whom. Can you tell me what page you have that is competing against this one? I'd be happy to give some advice. But for right now, I can't see an issue here.
And no, generally putting things on subdomains is not effective but done right it can be. I don't want to say it isn't overall but we traditionally recommend against it.

I am with Moosa, placing it on another site just for links isn't a good idea. But this isn't content that will get links as it is.
These aren't really articles, but rather requests for services. I am not sure how much traffic this content will bring you but if you want to open it up, I'd still recommend keeping it on one site.

Search for news on your phone or tablet. cnn.com is first. In fact , on my iphone I see no mobile URLs. Fox News redirects to foxnews.mobi when a mobile user clicks on foxnews.com, but the foxnews.com ranks.
I hope this shows you that even though a site might have a mobile version and therefore a mobile sitemap (we'd hope), that doesn't mean the mobile site will outrank the main site on a mobile device.
Use your regular sitemaps and call it a day.

Keith and Bryan are dead on. If your homepage is better for users looking for insurance, then why is there an insurance page? My guess is because your site offers more than insurance.
Yes, getting links to the homepage will be easier, but that should not be the reason for killing a well ranking page that seems to be the better page. I'd recommend updating the insurance page to make it convert like the homepage and let it remain the focus of insurance traffic. Then make sure that your homepage links to the insurance page with good anchor text, and that it doesn't link to another page with any insurance related text.

You can edit the index template inside of wordpress to ensure you have the right H1 and add in some static features. There are not any complete posts that I can find outlining this, but if you know some html and know how to search, I am sure you can make the necessary changes.
I'd change:
H1 (find feature to identify any current ones and change them, the add your own to the top of the page)
Static text (use a plugin for the side bar or just add a blurb above the excerpts that describes what the site is about)
That should be all you need.

I agree with Janet. Testing and PPC will help, but more than that your intuition helps most.
Bucket those keywords based on intent.
Essay editing, booked editing, and resume editing are slightly different so I'd make a page for each (include examples, be specific to that type of project). But when it comes to broad variations, go by the intent.
Essay correction and Essay editing should be the same page, and I'd mainly target editing as it sound more like what your product is, but use essay correction in the text. And try to vary the anchor text to the page when you link internally and externally.
When it comes to small slice of a big pie or big slice of a smaller pie, that's a call for you to make. Check out the competition on essay editing ... can you compete? Are you better than them for the searcher? How? Make that apparent and push for it with marketing. If you are the same ... but can own "essay correction" (the SERPs are not as competitive) ... go after that first.

I would mix it up a bit. Don't try for a percentage though, just go with it. Search for "wifi" and note that the top result is wikipedia, and they use Wi-Fi in the title tag and yet it is still bolded. This is why I say SEs see them as the same words. If it makes sense to pepper the different uses, and both are grammatically correct, go for it. Just don't waste a lot of time doing it as I don't think the returns are great enough.

It helps if we know the exact keyword you are talking about, but alsvik is right. SEs generally get that web-site and website are the same word. "And" and "&" are considered the same. "Auto refinance" and "Car refinance" are sometimes used interchangably. It is all based on the intent of the searcher. If the mis-spelling or stop in the middle of the phrase changes the intent, that changes things. But I can't know without knowing the word.
When it comes to what to use on the site, misspelling or not (see what I did there with the misspelling usage?), use what makes sense in the context of the page. Don't misspell just to add the word in there. If it's a product page, you might allow reviews, which should add natural variation. But don't misspell just for the sake of adding the term. I can almost guarantee the SEs know that the misspelling is the same as the correctly spelled term.
Now when it comes to the hypen words (misspelling, mis-spelling) ... if it makes sense to pepper them in the text and they are both accepted variations, can't hurt to use them. But I don't think it'll make a giant difference. And please, don't worry about the meta keywords tag, using that does nothing but hurt you.
