      Hi,

I'm developing a wordpress site and currently confused over home page optimization. I'm planning to use excerpts of posts on home page so that users can glance over all recent posts and at same time avoid content duplication. But I'm not sure how to optimize the home page for couple of targeted keywords .

How can i make sure that there is enough content, proper H1, title tag etc on home page for target keywords even by using excerpts of different posts on home page with Read more links to complete posts? Should i use some sticky post on home page to take care of all onpage requirements for required keywords or  there are some other better ways to do it?

      Regards,

      shaz

From my experience, if you're trying to optimize a WordPress homepage for certain keywords, having static text content would be a good option (I'm assuming that's what you mean with a "sticky post") You might need to get a bit creative for how to incorporate that, but it's certainly possible.

Optimizing the title tag is probably the easiest - just make sure your keywords are included in a non-spammy way.

Obviously, you're limited in your URL optimization options since you just have to work with the URL you have. This is one aspect that makes it easier to target keywords in blog posts, where you can have different keywords in the URL, rather than trying to target them on a page with dynamic content like you're describing.

You can edit the index template inside of wordpress to ensure you have the right H1 and add in some static features. There are not any complete posts that I can find outlining this, but if you know some html and know how to search, I am sure you can make the necessary changes.

          I'd change:

H1 (find feature to identify any current ones and change them, the add your own to the top of the page)

Static text (use a plugin for the side bar or just add a blurb above the excerpts that describes what the site is about)

That should be all you need.
