Hi,

Yes I was also going to use the disavow tool.

However most Web 2.0 sites dont give you access to upload a HTML file to verify the site

I have 3 web 2.0 sites that look like theyve been hit by a penalty.

I have checked their backlinks and there are a lot of backlinks from sites that have been deindexed.

I have requested the removal of lots of the links, but now I need to resubmit the site to Google.

Is this even possible with them being a web 2.0 site? I don't have webmaster tools for the site so how would I do this?

Has anyone any experience with creating a PDF from a bunch of posts from a wordpress site?

I want to send some people a PDF of the latest posts within one of my blog categories. There is around 20 I want to pull in to a PDF

Any ideas how to do this?

Ah ok I see what you mean.

I will keep checking the links to see how many hang around from that friendsite.

Or I may even just request them to remove the links, so I can sleep better at night.

I've suffered a manual penalty in the past along with a Penguin penalty from an external person using BMR. Lost a lot of business, so I am very concerned about getting hit again even though my intention was always to do legit SEO etc.

Is there any other way to know if these links will affect my site.

It just seems far too "spammy" to get so many links from one domain and for them to disappear!

I have just checked my backlinks in Majestic and was shocked.

It appears I've gained 1500 back links in 1 day all from the domains friendsite.com.

I checked a few of the links and the links to my site have disappeared.

Looking at friendsite.com, it seems that peopel can bookmark a site, and when they do it appears on the "latest bookmerk" section which is site wide.

So my concern is that:

1. 1500 links have appeared in one day from one domain

2. 1500 links disappeared the next day

Wouldnt both of these cause Google to get suspicious?

What should I do? Should I ask friendsite.com to remove the links?

I have read a number of times tha it would be better for SEO to have forum.yourdomain.com

Can you tell us why you think it is better to have www.yourdomain.com/forum as I am also about to launch a forum

Just looked at the code and yes it does have rel=canonical

I had no idea that this would tell google its the same as the home page

The URLs such as mysite.com/?674764 dont have a page. When you visit the URL it just shows the home page.

Ive just looked at another Wordpress site and added this /? in the URL, again it shows the home page without redirecting the URL

Infact you can enter anything after the /? and it will still show the home page

No the URLs just show the home page and not a 404

There are hundreds of them, so would  it not be easier to make a 301 rule in the htaccess that redirects all urls that have /? in, rather then manually redirecting each URL?

The URLs have been indexed by Google from an old site.

The new site is now a Wordpress site.

To tidy up what Google has indexed I want to redirect these /? URLs to the home page.

I have tried the "link juice keeper" plugin but that did not work.

I really need to know what code I need to put in the htaccess file to do this. i have tried a whole bunch of things but cant get it to work

I want all these URLs to be redirected to my home page.

I see what you mean. Well the links from the home page sites are going from sites that are for information purposes only, then link to the service provider recommended by that website.

I wouldn't see anything wrong with this. There are 5 sites linking from the home page to my main site out of 120 backlinks. I presume that this doesnt look bad in Google's eyes

Can you tell me why you think home page links are bad? I actually started a question about this last week but didnt get many replys. Do you think getting home page links a bad thing to do?

Ive done some digging and found that when I go to mysite1.com in majestic and look at Pages, its showing all the long URLs that I found pointing to mysite2.com

So I guess that at some point in its life, these pages have been indexed by Google.

These URLs all start with a ? i.e. mysite1.com/?561796

So I am guessing the best way to solve this is to make all URLs that start with a /? be redirected to the root.

Unfortunetly I have no idea how to write this in the htaccess file

Ok I have noticed that any URL with ? at the end shows the home page.

mysite1.com/? will show the home page

mysite1.com/?111 will show the home page

etc etc

So I guess I need to redirect anything with a ? to the home page using a 301.

Can someone tell me what the code will be to do that in the htaccess file?

Unfortunately I cant do that on a public forum.

But I can tell you all the URLs look like the one Ive posted, loads of numbers etc.

It isnt a dynamic site so these actual URLs are not  live pages.

When you visit these URLs, they are just duplicates of the home page

Today I checked the links to mysite2.com in Majestic and noticed 24 links coming from the mysite1.com instead of just one link.

I have the option of getting a link from 2 websites home pages. My site is a financial service website.

I want to know if it is safe to do so.

The first site is a hotel site, so their content has no relation to my site

And the second is a Google News website about finances

They have offered me a section in the sidebar to have a sentence or 2 about my site with a link.

Can you tell me would these be safe to get? I don't want to be hit by any penalty

I set up my business site on a VPS and its working great. The site is doing well ranking for my keywords.

I have another domain name that I was going to host on the VPS also. The site will be in a completely new business and there will be no overlapping keywords at all. A separate business altogether.

Can someone tell me if adding another site to the VPS I have cause any SEO issues as the last thing I want to do is negatively effect my main business site
