Not to be a jerk, but "Quality of BMR" hehe BMR had no quality standards... As the sites they used held absolutely no user value.... (who would go to a crappy blog, with crappy content, about crappy sites?)

Not trying to be rude, but just pointing out that if BMR was your standard of High quality, then you might be looking to get yourself in more trouble...

sorry not to really answer your question, but the question is almost impossible to answer....  As if another BMR type network sprung up, it would be a gamble and high risk to use it.

I personally would stick with services like Myblogguest and put out quality content there, and on your own site - forgetting the "network" mentality.

So he waits a week, and has done no research into what may have caused this, what then? Panic?

I would fully agree that panicing is the wrong idea, but so is sitting around doing nothing, as an agency - it is very easy for a person to say - just wait it out, but as a consumer what does that mean - sit around and do nothing, or proactivlely begin researching the possible causes?

So I would think a more correct answer IMHO to someone who is new to the game, would be...

Don't panic, but don't be complacent - Begin researching your tactics over the past years, your link profile your on page seo ect.. so in a few weeks IF it does not "Magically" clear itseld you can have a clear actionable plan to begin responding - two weeks of no money coming in could mean death for a business.... So why would you not begin researching while "wating"

I also do not think the "dust" will settle, this is an ongoing battle, and will be for some time to come - so waiting a few weeks on a site that = livelyhood is not a smart decision either

If you own the domain - you have the rights to do with it as you please. If he owns it then he does.

I would not say he is "required by law" to do a 301 redirect, but you can forcibly take domain and registrar control, to then do with it as you please - by contacting your domain name registrar or current host. (unless developer is your host, then you will need to go straight to the registrar.

Be sure to have the new host/environment setup prior to this though as you will need to tell the registrar where to send domain control rights (name servers) then at that point you will have domain control at a Host/registrar of you choosing.

If you are really an expert in "insert trade/industry here" then you would obviously have many people with relevant friends, posts ect about "example trade/industry"

And when you post something within your "industry realm" and it has you as the rel=author, then Google can begin to give you preference as an expert in your field for further content if you have large amount of industry relevant followers

I think this is their answer to spam and manipulation, as an SEO/SMM agency will have issues without actually having meaningful content and strategy of gaining industry relevant followers. Of course there are always ways around these sorts and I am sure someone will begin gaming it (if not already)

But overall i think the author is being a little over dramatic (probably on purpose for exposure reasons)

But nevertheless, I think this is a step in the right direction for a more genuine user experience in the Social World.

With these tactics you will probably get to page one (position 6-10) for some low competition keywords. But i highly doubt you will even see the return on even this low amount of money.

With long-term employment of this strategy you do run the risk of getting a penalty, but at these volumes (depending on niche and keyword comp) you should not get one, but that does not mean i am advocating it.

I would highly suggest against tactics like this and companies like these as they probably have a huge footprint, that can be seen as "spammy" techniques easily.

I say no go.. do this work yourself and concentrate on what you think the users of your site would want, not what some SEO company thinks they want in a box...

Hi,

Google's crawler (GoogleBot) has a separate larger database, crawl rate ect... than Open Site Explorer (RogerBot)

I also think in general the OSE index is updated once a month ( i think they are working on making it more often and expanding the crawl database)

Google's index is updated more often than that.

In short, OSE is just a different "snapshot" of the net then Google's much larger database of the web

Never done it, but I would say no.

The benefits of Social, in my opinion do not come from a one time like or one time + It is the continuation of creating a genuine following that is niche related and active in your community.

Of course like most things in Search Engine Land, it could greatly help you until Google or Facebook picks up on the footprint. So I guess it is a gamble really. One that I personally would never take cause what benefits are you going to get from a bunch of irrelevant one time likes in the social sphere from accounts that are probably loners, or already on the spam radar?

I guess if you use it as a "starter" for a really great infographic, video or piece of content, it might help with initial exposure, then the REAL signals may carry you but still in my opinion it is a gamble and probably a waste of money that could be put into a real strategy instead of a shortcut.

My main advice to you is to not worry about they are doing to rank above you.... I know that might seem counter-intuitve, but at this point it seems that is not really helping you, it is only making you focus on a goal that might not bring you business.

As Eric says,

1. Are you sure these are good keywords that bring targeted traffic?

If so, take away the idea of forensics, since you do not want to emulate what they are doing, you want to do things that make you stand apart from them...

I am sure you have heard someone throw around the word "content"

Well so am I.... Content...... Make sure you are providing a user experience on your website that would garner true interest in content that people looking for you, or looking for information around items/services you may provide.

Build this content, and build a social circle around it, build relationships and the rankings will come, if they are truly using "Black Hat" tactics they will eventually either get penalized, or you will outrank them due to you will be providing a more genuine user experience with genuine content.

Also this more sets you up for the future, as Search Engines might not be the only game in town for long, so making a more well rounded "person-centric" strategy in my opinion is better than worrying about why competitor a or b is beating you for a single term in Google.

This really does not fit the description of cloaking, the content is the same, just different languages right?

If this is the case IMO this would not bee seen as cloaking as your are not delivering different content, just user experience.

Also as long as you are not separating IP delivery by source (meaning sending spiders somewhere different than humans) this would not be the definition of cloaking.

Also I am pretty sure a 301 would make your submission in valid and rejected and YOU DO NOT GET A REFUND!!!!

I would suggest just submitting the homepage, but not sure this will really help you in your specific link building efforts even though the Yahoo directory is powerful and respected.

I think the answer would be Noindex, but continue to follow - So not by Robots, do by Meta.

Since these pages are just duplicates of others, with little content difference - I would suggest this due to at some point these could begin to drag down the rest of your site - and also they are technically creating competition for your specifically ranked non PPC product pages.

I think Pre Panda/Penguin - the advice might have been closer to keeping them, and targeting them for secondary keywords, but not sure if that strat is really good anymore as it brings too much risk, for an un-known pay off now.

It depends alot on your needs and budget:

Rackspace and Amazon are good when it comes to reliability, but dedicated is VERY expensive. If you are okay with the cloud they both offer this and can be quite reasonable.

I like Rackspace as you have a little more wiggle room and it is a little cheaper than Amazon.

Not necessarily an "Alarm Bell" on its own, as that really is all syndication is technically -

BUT what this probably means is a HUGE group of websites that just dynamically place any niche relevant content on the sites of that niche. It is most usually all no follow, so penalties would not be felt - but results might not be felt as well. (Unless it is real news and you are just trying to gain exposure and traffic)

I am not the biggest fan of online press releases so I am probably jaded, but from an SEO standpoint it is not necessarily an alarm bell for something bad. It just means your content will be automatically accepted on the distribution partner sites (as long as it passes quality checks for most reputable release agencies)

There is actually a patent that tackles this exact issue. Over 2012, in my opinion there are going to be more "Panda style" updates that target this method that filters out domains that are exact match, but really just a "loophole" doorway page.

Of course these are not really "doorway pages" by technical definition, but the underlying motive is to game the Algorithm into ranking a single entity for many keywords using multiple domains just junking up the web, in my opinion.
