Bad idea, without content the homepage won't rank. This is one of the #1 cardinal SEO rules. Homepage must have content.

RE: Is it okay for my H3 Tag to appear above my H2 Tag on the Web Page
No problem, don't worry about that. Just try to have the H1 with the main keyword phrase and H2 with the secondary if possible. Someone ask Cutts this question a while back and he said Google understands.

RE: Infographic stolen Whats my best course of action?
File a DMCA takedown notice might be the best way if you've already reached out to them and gotten nowhere. Tell them this is your next course of action if they don't remove your material that should get them listening.

RE: Are there any SEO implications if a page does two 301s and then a 304?
Any daisy chain of redirects is self defeating, especially if the purpose is for trying to transfer PageRank. It just will not work. Matt Cutts had a short video about this on YouTube about a year ago.

Do you ever forget the SEO basics?
We all get a little sloppy at times. Just yesterday , someone pointed out that I accidentally blocked the robots from one of our primary pages, because it was being included in a wildcard match on one of the disallow commands in robots.txt.
Sometimes the mistakes are very basic. The one below is just too funny. I thought I would share the love. Search Google for "MD care"
MD Care Inc. - Welcome<a id="LXPLSS_979677678U1">
</a>
<cite>www.mdcarehealthplan.com/</cite>
This is an SEO description that will be seen by the search engines and used in the search results.
The meta keywords tag is even funnier:
<meta name="keywords" content="spam,the,keywords,here,like,this,and this,good" /> -
RE: How to link to a site without passing ANY linkjuice (other than simply nofollowing)
obfuscated URLs via javascript linking will not only not pass PR but your PR won't get thrown away like it does with a nofollow.
What's wrong with nofollowing the link - that is the recommended method. Also I would make it target="_blank" so the link opens in a new window and Google doesn't count it as a bounce in your analytics.

RE: Lots of optimized content but crappy rankings
A starting recommendation is too get rid of the spammy footer on every page
"Brampton, Burlington, Burnaby, Calgary, Cambridge, Chilliwack, Coquitlam, Dartmouth, Delta, Edmonton, Guelph, Hamilton, Kanata, Kelowna, Langley, London, Maple Ridge, Milton, Mississauga, Montreal, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Oakville, Ottawa, Port Moody, Regina, Richmond, Saskatoon, Sherwood Park, Surrey, Toronto, Vancouver, Vernon, Victoria, West Vancouver, Winnipeg, Woodbridge".
I have over 10 million monthly visitors on my health sites and I can help you a lot more. Feel free to contact me for additional help.

RE: Should I make All My "Non-Money" Pages No-Follow?
that is pagerank sculpting and no longer works for SEO.
If you have 5 links on a page and want link juice to go to only 2 and nofollow the other 3 links on the page, the link juice will not go 50/50 to those two dofollow links.
Instead the link juice will still get divided by 5 and you will be throwing away the PR that would normally have been passed to those 3 links.

RE: Should the primary navigation use keyword rich menu items?
Since those are sitewide links you don't want your main anchor texts to be repeated over and over, so i would go with your suggestion to avoid over optimization. I would still link in content with those keywords but I would mix it up and vary the anchor texts, and not do sitewide keywords like what the client wants, unless you do it one maybe one link only.

RE: Our site has been up almost 2 months and no rankings yet?
Brand new sites can sometimes take up to a year before Google trusts it enough for real rankings. But looking at your site, you basically took the same page of content and simply changed many (too many) instances of the location.
http://www.akinsseptic.com/alpharetta-septic-tank.html
http://www.akinsseptic.com/athens-septic-tank.html
I would rewrite each page as much as you can, including the generic "About Akins Plumber & Sewer" footer content, and maybe lower your keyword density so the pages don't look over optimized. Whoa easy there
Less is better.<meta name="keywords" content="septic tank, septic tank service, atlanta septic, atlanta septic tank, septic tanks, septic repair, septic tank repair, septic pumping, septic tank pumping, sewer line, sewer repair," />alt="athens septic tank services, septic tank services athens, septic tank service athens, athens septic tank service, athens septic tank chemicals, chemicals septic tank athens, athens septic clog, athens septic clogs, clogs athens, sewer athens, sewers athens" title="septic services athens"

RE: Bing and Yahoo Dropped all Result Overnight!
I want to suggest you use the new Bing Webmaster tools like SEO analyzer and markup validator and check the error counts Bing is reporting as well. Please share if you see anything amiss.
I'm very bothered by the parameter handling on the site with your paginated pages showing up in the top of search results. Do you know how to manage your parameters?
Why does your home page have this canonical tag with a slash at the end of the url?
<link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="[http://www.computervalley.ca/](view-source:http://www.computervalley.ca/)" /> Hope this helps... -
RE: Ranking for competitor brand terms
completely doable, but you open yourself up to a possible lawsuit which I believe is the biggest risk here.

RE: Does Google penalize duplicate website design?
Bad idea to launch 5 sites for the same company addressing the same targets. One site representing your company (if same product) is the rule.
If you can use different IPs, private domain registrars, no interlinking, different contact info, and different content you can get away with it. If you're just throwing up 5 sites on the same server with similar info you're asking for trouble.
-
RE: Why does this page not show in google at all?
Wow, every single link in your site navigation is nofollowed. You're basically telling Google to get lost.
I'm seeing you rank for specific location searches in google.co.uk so there is no issue except for the fact that you have one page only with little content.
Not sure how much more you will get ranked for with a one page indexed site in Google. You should create tageted pages for different types of flowers and baskets, and allow those pages to get indexed and then they'll have a chance to rank for things like "Flower Baskets in Bridport" for example.
Look at how this site is doing it: http://www.gifttree.com/
Good luck!

RE: Description and Title keyword Not showing in Google SERP?
why would i get a thumbs down for asking where he doesn't see his title and meta description appearing? duh
-
RE: Why is my key word rank so horrible?
if you are on page 50 for "kayak fishing" there is a good chance that you are penalized for that term
your site seems to be loading incredibly slow - see what is hanging, check out your page speed time in WMT
add the main keyword to the beginning of your title tags see that all the first page results have it that way on their sites
clean up all broken links on your site and other WMT recomendations
look at your blog and forum indexing (you have a TON of indexed pages on this site (110,000) try to weed out the flimsy content page so Google doesn't think you're spamming them) no index category pages and others that may be creating duplicate content in the index like this:
http://www.yakangler.com/articles/how-to/fishing - this should not be indexed, only the individual articles
noindex user pages and other sections like this. Look in google MWT for duplicate title tag ang meta desriptions you'll see a ton, try to make them all unique

RE: Does anyone know why Moz.com appears to have a PR of 2 now?
Do you know if SEOmoz was www or non www because:
http://seomoz.org is 301 redirecting to http://www.seomoz.org
and http://www.seomoz.org is redirecting to http://moz.com/
http://seomoz.org should probably be 301 redirecting to http://moz.com/ to avoid that second hop. If the site was non www they could be losing PR being passed to the new domain.

RE: Why traffic to my link has dropped suddenly?
I think you really need to take a strong look at your own site. You are using some known spam techniques on your pages and it wouldn't surprise me that Google is finally penalizing you for trying to game them. Also, you may be trying too hard to fit your keyphrase on the page and the bot may feel that this is a spam technique. For starters, I would get rid of this entire footer:

RE: Would you shorten this url, and if so how?
nope, you are still too many folder deep and your example is worse because the folder names are now meaningless.
this is slightly better:
http://www.yakangler.com/articles/products/boats/1442-jackson-kayak-launches-the-big-tuna
this is even better if you can swing it
http://www.yakangler.com/boats/1442-jackson-kayak-launches-the-big-tuna-boat
a) articles is not needed
b) new products won't always be new
c) boats is a legit category
d) item is not needed
e) get "boat" in your filename if you are trying to rank for that term
You can handle redirects through automation if you are using a cms like wordpress
