Hi mozzers,

I am conducting an audit and was looking at the cache version of it. The homepage is fine but all the other pages, I get a Google 404. I don't think this is normal.

Can someone tell me more what could be the issue here?

I am conducting an audit for a client and found over 200 instances using meta tags(nofollow, noindex). These were implemented essentially on Blog pages/category pages, tags not blog posts which is a good sign.

I believe that tagged URLs aren't something to worry about since these create tons of duplicates. In regards to the category page, i feel that it falls in the same basket as tags but I am not positive about it.

Can someone tell me if these are fine to have noindex, nofollow?

Also on the website subnav which are related to the category pages mentioned prev, the webmaster have implemented noindex,follow(screenshot below), which seems ok to me? am i right?

Hi mozzers

I am considering learning some dev just to be able to make minor changes on websites. I love seo but will never want to be a programmer. I get sometimes frustrated that I have to request my dev colleague to make minor changes such as adding a small piece of codes to a website for verification purposes or adding rich snippet or modifying the ga code to get more out of it. I know some HTML and understands the core elements and attributes.

My first question would be: what should I learn without learning A-Z of programming? My guess would be some php and?

My second question: based on your answer where can I learn about these programs? Any interactive learning services such as team treehouse ? Any online courses?

Thank you for your great responses! It is actually what I was thinking, nothing to do with the implementation of rich snippet but because Miriam mentioned that you're not supposed to take reviews from third parties then I am little concerned about this. So my question is then where are you supposed to take them from? What is the purpose of the review rich snippet then?

I actually took those reviews from Customer lobby and they aren't duplicating anywhere!

@Takeshi: The implementation of the rich snippets were made last week and checked the rankings around the same time.

Hi Mozzers,

I am really surprised what happened here. I conducted a small campaign by adding reviews rich snippet to 10 different microsites(covering different locations). Today I was checking if the snippets were showing up correctly in the SERPs and noticed that most of these locations with review snippet dropped in the rankings?

How weird is that?

Can anyone explain what happened here?

Has anyone experienced this?

Hi John,

One thing I am confused about. Should I have the goals set in the subdomain profile? domain or the combined profile? I would think this should be on the combined profile, right?

Also when you say "filter by example.com", you can only do that by adding a secondary dimension "landing Page URL path" right or you meant something else?

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately can't share the details. The server hosting the site wasn't helpful at all. The owner of the site sent me his Fetch but not sure how to interpret that.

Can one of you tell me how to determine the issue by reading the Fetch from Google? Any other steps I can do to identify the issue?

Since August 22nd, (not a site I manage) has had a Server error 500 and all the pages got deindexed?

This is obviously a server issue but why it got deindexed is it because it's been a while since it had this server issue?

On the pages I checked the pages loads correctly so I am a bit confused here! His webmaster account show 1500 server errors!

Can someone tell me what is going on and how to fix it?

One of my clients have suffered from a sudden ranking loss that started beginning of August.

A little background: My client is a big cleaning company that has many franchises nationwide and had very good rankings for the past few months. Generally the busiest time of the year is summer and the 4th quarter is the slowest. Organic Traffic generally drops by 5 to 10% between Q3 and Q4 of each year.

2 things have caught my attention while investigating these ranking losses

1. The latest recent Update from the moz index evaluated the website's DA of 48 when in the summer we had a DA of 56. Never seen such a drop before!! My first question is how accurate is the moz index? How can I make sure this data is accurate? I am very surprised because we have been working hard on getting good quality links for the past year and a half. If the DA is accurate then that could explain the ranking loss
2. Google updating its search engine to the Hummingbird version. Do you guys think this has anything to do with the drop in rankings? The content on the website is not the best but is fairly decent. I am still not sure how the ranking drop could be related to Hummingbird?

I have also checked webmaster tools to see if I got hit somehow by penguin and it seems fine.

Here is an issue I am going through:

1. I have a root domain(www.example.com) that is the core website where you are able to schedule a service
2. I have a subdomain (sub.example.om) that is part of content strategy offering free tips and follows a different branding strategy.
3. There are internal links from sub to root domain
4. I have a GA subdomain tracking code installed on every page for both domains

I would love to set goal tracking on GA for visitors coming to my subdomain, then going to root domain and then schedule a sevices? Is  this possible? If it is, can someone show me a How To because I tried it anddidn't work?

Unfortunately I can't really reveal the domain name because of our privacy policy...:(

The extra thing I can provide though is that I was able to see only 440 results from google(44). I wasn't able to see the remaining so I have a feeling that Google went a little overboard here. Since the clients offer giveaways you might be right that google detects all the links pointing to this domain that are shared by visitors or prospects.

What do you think?

I am doing an SEO site audit for a client(giveaway,  and here is the problem:

when performing site:domain.com on google --> 13,800 pages were found

When I see this number it seems to be a bit too much compare to the links i checked on integrity(link check for broken links) which gave me a result of 1291. I digged in more into the Google results and saw hundreds(maybe thousands) of pages that are blocked by robots.txt. So I am thinking, ok this is it, thousands of pages can't be crawled by the search engines. Here is the big BUT though, then I check at my moz crawl (see attachment) and no pages are blocked by the SEs, and then look at the dups, only 23 recorded??

Is Moz not crawling properly the 13,800 results that google finds or is this some magical phenomenon happening here? I am really confused here that is why I need some help here!

@Bradley: It seems that this is a good technique whether they install it via BING but I know bing also offers other techniques to verify WMT so even if I don't find it, it could mean either they don't have it or they do(using other verification process), right?

I am running an audit for a client and one of the things I investigate is if they have a Google and BING webmaster tools . Also I am trying to detect if they have submitted any XML sitemaps. Is there a way for me to be able to detect these by making a simple search on google or not?

I have a client that just launched a new subdomain and I would like to use webmaster tools for it. The root domain has a webmaster tools installed and verified with the GA method.

When I tried to verify the subdomain using the GA method, it wasn't able to verify. The GATC has an asynchronous snippet, is located before the and I am an admin to this account.

The only thing that might caused the issue is that the codes is displayed with a link opening up to a different page that displays the entire code:

Do you guys think this is the issue? If it is can you let me know why?

Separate question: In the long run will it harm data collection especially since I am able to collect data this way?
