In need of guidance on keyword targeting
I agree with Jared's comments - the current keyword layout of the pages is an effective one. There's probably tweaks that can be made but overall I don't see major issues with having concrete repair as a subpage. This homepage is ranking on page 1 for "concrete repair west yorkshire". That may or may not be the ideal keyword, but I would focus on link building - run your way through this entire list of opportunities and see how that affects performance.

Is it possible to get job pages in the SERPs to compete against the likes on Monster and Indeed?
I've worked on niche job sites that rank well on page-one for job searches in their niche even though indeed, careerbuilder, craigslist, and others also compete for it. If you're focused on your niche and partner with schools, employers and others who serve or require resources from personnel in that niche, you can get the links you need to rank. I just takes work.

Examples of B2B websites offering services (not products)
I was killing time looking at some old posts and came across yours. I just Googled 'construction human resources' and found this site: http://www.clp.com/Construction-Human-Resources They seem to do a decent job of SEO. Although I did not audit the page, I just spot checked a bunch of those sections from the sidebar and they were first page for many of them.

Is it Penguin or is it just a shoddy website?!
You should be building your blog on your domain and your domain only. This is where you can gain a ton of backlinks and traffic to your site. Do not put a roadblock between your users and your site. Move that blog on over!

Producing videos
Tom, Great response and some great examples there! 30 second videos from Animoto look really interesting. It is whether I can use these as a product promotional video. Thanks again.

Web pages fighting over rank for one keyword. Can it be stopped?
Then if they are linked that that's ok, but if you change the title of the other pages,, that may stop them ranking but it wont help your target page rank.

B2B - Suggest a website
Thanks for your reply Keri. I should of been more specific, I was after companies that offer services as opposed to products. But there are some clever ideas I can take from this site too such as their placement of social icons and accreditations.

Help with HitTail
Hi Rob, Thanks for your reply. I did think it was odd for terms to be suggested that I was ranking so high for. I will send an email if I come across it again. Cheers!

Help on blog topics for my niche
Thanks for your insightful reply Keri. I especially like your last idea about having somewhere to point people to instead of re-explaining it again. It should hopefully make their thought process on what they really want as a blog post easier.

Similar page titles but not quite duplicate
Similar page titles aren't the end of the world but its always good to diversify. If you have Google Analytics set up for your site, maybe you could take a look at what terms those other pages could be ranking well for where you aren't already page one and then try optimizing for those terms. When Google made those changes to domain diversity in the SERPs it made it a bit harder to appear two or more times on the same page 1 but that doesn't mean you can't try to appear on more page 1s instead.

The concept of Blogging
Hi Shaun, Thanks for asking your question. What you do with your blog should be guided by what your goals are. Some industries are an easy, natural match for blogging. For example, a bakery can blog about awesome wedding cakes they've created for weddings in Los Angeles. They can post gorgeous photos, write up a description of the cake, icing, decorations, and talk about the venue to which they delivered the cake. By taking this approach, the bakery can hope to attract traffic from people searching for a wedding cake baker in LA. Some industries have to work harder to find something inviting and interesting to blog about. An attorney might be a good example of this. However, let's say he's an accident lawyer. He can potentially write about new driving laws, bicycle-friendly cities, accident avoidance, and news about local or national cases involving accidents. In such a case, his goal might be to demonstrate his involvement in his field and his expertise to readers, while also showing to search engines that his website/blog is a lively, frequently updated entity, enabling him to surpass more static competitors. So, depending on what your business does, yes, showcasing your work with clients in some posts could be great, while other posts might focus on tactical advice about what you do for a living, or highlighting news in your industry that you feel is important. Different kinds of posts make a blog interesting. Yes, I definitely recommend using a spam fighting plugin. I use Akismet and it blocks thousands of spam comments for me every year. Allowing comments on your blog means that you are inviting interaction, and as this is the whole point of blogging, the decision to turn off comments would mean that you do not want people to be able to talk to you about what you write. There are some instances in which bloggers do this, but in my opinion, that takes away one of the key points of their having a blog and they might as well just be publishing a series of static articles. There could be exceptions to this, of course, but in most cases, the point of blogging is to interact with the public, so giving them a voice is an important part of that. Hope this helps!accidents. Improvement suggestions - Wanted!
Thanks for you replies! The UX/UI definitely needs improving and is something on the list. I will take all of your other ideas into account and try to apply them as best I can. It's strange to see how much I already know but how much easier it is when it's spelled out to you haha. My keywords are empty for a reason Gerd but thanks for your reply, I shall get to optimising my images as the graph clearly shows up to 3 seconds for one of them to load!! I'll also look to adding tags where appropriate. Cheers!

Trying to fill in the missing gaps
Hey Marcus, I've implemented a few of the things you suggested, yet to get a blog up and running but hopefully it's in the process. Seeing as you gave me such a thorough reply I was wondering if you could help me with another site. www.data-contracts.co.uk I am struggling to rank for concrete repair on google.co.uk. I've tested a few things but cannot get anything to budge in the SERP. Any suggestions? Cheers

Page authority has disappeared since redirect
Hi Matt I had a look at the post, it is relevant but doesn't really clarify anything. I am worried that there is something I am doing wrong because the pages are well linked internally and I am pretty sure they will have external links to them too. There has been a massive restructure. I have gone from http://www.mysite.com/services/my-product.aspx to https://mysite.com/services/3-stage-name.aspx OSE shows I have no data on my HTTP status for these new pages too. I can't seem to get to the bottom of this.

301 Redirect with ASP (not .NET)
Ok I figured it out for anyone that wants to know. <% If InStr(Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_NAME"),"www") = 0 Then Response.Status="301 Moved Permanently" Response.AddHeader "Location","http://www.xxxxx.com" & request.ServerVariables("URL") & Request.ServerVariables("QUERY_STRING") Response.End Else If InStr(Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_NAME"),"xxxxx.com") = 0 then Response.Status="301 Moved Permanently" Response.AddHeader "Location","http://www.xxxxx.com" & request.ServerVariables("URL") & Request.ServerVariables("QUERY_STRING") Response.End end if End if %>

How elated do you get?
I find that taking all the punched holes from my hole puncher and tossing them in the air and then pretending I am in a parade while I wave to all my admirers feels pretty good.

Https & www
If your site resolves to https, then it's likely Google will display it that way. I haven't seen any click-through studies of https vs non, so it's hard to say how having the https will effect you. That said, I have seen correlation studies that say shorter domain names are better correlated with higher rankings, so you may be onto something. If I want to get rid of https from showing will that mean I have to take the certificate from the homepage and just have it on the relevant pages of my website? Yes, if you remove the https from the homepage then Google won't display it. Fairly certain rel=canonical is not what you're looking for here, as even if you point it to http I suspect Google will likely ignore it. Hope this helps!

Page specific external followed links
This has given me something to focus on, I know most of this stuff in the back on my head but haven't understood where to go. This is great. Thanks again
