Hi Bhadresh, I have found that SEOMoz is an excellent source for reliable information on any topic in the SEO realm. Your ultimate goal may be realized- over time, because its a process, not a quick fix. If you put in time to understand and utilize the information in your reports, take advantage of the SEOMoz tools, read the two SEOMoz blogs and the Q&A forum on s consistent basis, you might surprise yourself with what you will learn and how much your own skills will improve. It's unavoidable. And who knows, if you put it out there, perhaps you'll even gain some valuable recommendations for companies that can assist you. Get to know the folks here- build a sense of who you can trust and potentially build a relationship with.

I'm with Randy Epp on this but it does raise questions and concern for me. I am surprised by the critical attitude connected with opinions that many of you share that designers shouldn't include links to their sites. I've never encountered that sentiment before. We are also a web design company and follow the same practice: we include our intention and request for permission to place a brand link on our client's site in both the proposal and our contract. 99.99% of all our clients over close to 15 years in business have been more than happy to include that reference to us on their site. It also helps them in their promotion of us. The one exception was a company that requires a particular level of confidentiality and was unable to allow it. Our prospects also appreciate the ease with which they can contact us when they stumble upon a site they love and want to know who designed it. I understand that footer links like these have low value and have also fairly recently learned that they may be perceived by Google as unnatural links. We experienced a disasterous loss in page rank for our two top keywords in late December 2012. But we have had no warnings in Webmaster Tools and I am hoping our drop was not due to these links, but rather to a lack of other quality links compared to our competition. Especially since other keywords had no loss and our brand comes up #1 which implies no penalties. Additionally, our competitors also have footer links on their client sites. My main question around these links has been whether to go back and create variation in the anchor text and after reading this thread if we should go back and change to nofollow. Either way, I suspect that tedious amoun of time consuming labor is better spent creating more quality content and creating a link building plan.

Do you mean that inputting an author bio was the same as putting in a meta description on a content page? I did go ahead and add author bios just in case.

That was helpful- I found the "Edit User" "Personal Options" pages for authors, but there is no meta description area. There is an "About the user" section with an area for "Biographical Info". Nothing for All in One SEO is on this page. I can't imagine that a bio would be considered a meta description, but who knows...

This seems silly, but I have errors on blog URLs in our WordPress site that I don't know how to access because they are not in our Dashboard. We are using All in One SEO. The errors are for blog archive dates, authors and just simply 'blog'. Here are samples:

Does anyone know how to input descriptions for pages like these?

The issues your raised about our on-page was a concern I'd had and I was probably paying too much homage to my good grades on the SEOMoz reports.. But man oh man, it was so tempting to keep at it as I watched our position move back up after the initial drop. Guess it backfired and I got stung. Great learning experience.

I immediately went in and made some changes with your suggestion in mind as a start.

Your comment also alerted me to the fact that many of our really great client testimonials (all legitimate) had dropped off the site to a widget issue. That is now fixed and we have a client testimonial on each page. Is it better to have them on one "Testimonials" or "Reviews" page? I am wondering if I should also create a  page and focus on the locals. Seems I probably shouldn't repeat any of the ones I have already used to avoid duplicate content. Is this correct?

We do have a few good reviews on Yelp. I will work on getting more and citations and claiming our business on more sites.

I can't thank you enough! This is exactly the kind of information I have been hankering for. I have a lot to learn- not sure I am grasping all of what you are saying quite yet, but will study and apply. Your comments, combined with those from Dr. Peter J. Meyers, that I saw earlier this morning, give me lots of definitive things to work on. Just what I needed. I'm not sighing now: I'm excited to get to work on improving this situation. (I seem to be unable to "Reply" to Peter's comment, so putting my 'Thanks!!" to him here).

I had also been concerned that I'd hit too hard with the 'targeted' keywords and Peter confirmed that. For weeks, our position was steadily improving after the initial drop in October, so i thought I was on the right track. But then, according to Peter, I may have gone too far and tipped it over the edge. I was studying my competitors sites and responding to what i was seeing, but clearly, was missing some of the critical broader factors that you have pointed out. I will do some more precise competitive analysis as you suggest.

Due to Peter's comments, I also discovered that many of our client testimonials had dropped off the pages due to a widget issue and I was able to re-install those this morning. Our approach has been to sprinkle testimonials throughout the site and perhaps this hasn't been the best approach for SEO but I think it's been helpful for prospect visits to the site.  i am working on collecting testimonials to create a Reviews page focusing on local reviews and building our Yelp reviews.

Thanks for your encouragement regarding our 'Fat Eyes' position. I hadn't looked at it that way.

Our competitors are really really smart. They have done a lot with their sites, blogs, links that we haven't kept up with and have a knowledge base in this area that I don't possess. I am trying to keep up! Luckily, our design work is topnotch.
