Duplicate URL's
Hi Gary, Yeah, overkill for me. The crawlers won't actually be getting as far as to see the canonical. The 301 will take the crawlers right passed those pages straight to the homepage you want to display. Cheers Matt

Google Places & Multiple Accounts?
Hi Gary! Thanks for coming to Q&A with your question. I second Vahe's excellent response. It is in the client's best interest that you help them set up their own account, and be sure that they have in writing what their email/pass is for it. Chances are, they will work with many different marketers over time, but their properties should always belong solely to them. Cheers! Miriam

1 Goggle Analytics Account or Multiple?
I agree here with almost everything, especially with linking and transferring the GA accounts. About five years ago an AdWords customer of the one person agency I was contracting for disputed about $30-40 total worth of charges, spread over three payments. All of the AdWords accounts I had were suspended without notice, even those on different credit cards and those not at all related to this agency. Most of them did have an analytics account in common, and they were all on the same Google Webmaster Tools account. Google would not say how they had determined which other ads to shut off, but I did get the rest of the accounts back online in short order and never had another problem with them.

Using an exsisting domain for a new busines?
I would give it a try. Having a 4 year old domain (probably registerd to your name) with existing backlinks and a natural link profile is worth a lot. The worst thing that could happen is that your exixting links will be devalued a little bit b/c they are no longer relevant for the topic. Make sure to 301 incoming links to / or another reasonable page, thus getting the linkjiuce. If you use wordpress as cms this is pretty easy: just add this to your header.php and test if it works (with life http headers or so) Get a local profile with google, bing etc and start from there.
