Magento takes care of all url rewrites and friendly urls out of the box - go to system > configuration > web > use url rewrite | YES

RE: Algorithm update last weekend?
I saw a small increase on the 14th and 15th - but no more than I would normally expect over a weekend (retail ecommerce websites).

Redirecting a questionable domain to a trusted domain
I have a question!
We have 2 domains operating within the same retail sector. One of them is for our bricks and mortar business and the other is a new brand we launched as a nationwide e-retailer. We aggressively built links for the new one and achieved some very good search positioning, where we remained for about 4 months until the google updates of the first half of this year started biting. The domain never received a warning from google or anything, but the links have clearly been devalued to a point where the domain is now virtually buried for the most competitive terms. However, the domain does still get around 100-200 visitors per day, and has a DA of 38.
We're thinking about a reshuffle that would involve putting the products in to our brick and mortar business website, and redirecting the brand domain to the bricks and mortar domain.
Thank you for reading this far! the question is then, is there a danger of the bricks and mortar domain being tarnished by this? as i said the brand domain hasn't had any notices of penalty from google but it has definitely been hit by updates.

RE: How can I fix "Too Many On Page Links"?
How many links does it have? anything sub 300 is nothing to be concerned about in my experience. Google does recognise the need for some sites - particularly large ecommerce sites to have lots of links for navigation. As a rule of thumb (imo) if it aids natural customer navigation, it's fine. If its overtly spammy and a deliberate attempt to cury favour in SERPS, its not fine - and apart from anything will ultimately dilute what you're doing by appearing on every page.

RE: I have removed over 2000+ pages but Google still says i have 3000+ pages indexed
Hi,
How long ago did you do this work? It can take a little while for google to catch up, but also a word of caution; if you have blocked the pages they may not de-index, you could be better off allowing access to them but set them to no index.

RE: How have they done that? DA20 site in p2 for very competitive search term
sorry you're absolutely right that h1 is visible. looks stuffed to me though!

RE: How have they done that? DA20 site in p2 for very competitive search term
just checked ahrefs - and as usual it shows more links than OSE, but a rapid recent decline and same story - no anchor text matching the search term.
Ok, ill give it up - search term is 'X!X!X!X!' and the site is X!X!X!X!X! (removed)

RE: Duplicate Content Problem!
is your site hosted in apache environment? if so, read up on htaccess.
Something like this should do it;
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.alias_domain.eu [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.main_domain.com/$1 [L,R=301] -
How have they done that? DA20 site in p2 for very competitive search term
Not sure whether to actually name the term and site in question, but basically it is a very big term for a popular type of home furniture.
Since the algo change, there is a site thats appeared in p2, right behind the market leader in google uk. The site has a domain authority of 20, and only 84 links - none of which even have the anchor text in question, and infact well over 90% have the same anchor text which is related but different to the search term.
The search term appears on the home page 3 times - once in a 120 character+ keyword stuffed home link title, once in a 100 character+ keyword stuffed h1 tag that isnt even visible on the home page and one in a paragraph that is visible.
The site is badly made and buggy, but its outranking John Lewis, Dunelm Mill etc - very big players in the UK market. How on earth does that work? They are doing so much google tells you not to and winning big rank!? What is Google doing?

RE: WMT reporting big drop in links today
absolutely agree, I dont take Google WMT as the real measure of actual links, but its a pretty accurate barometer of what Google will use to rank your site.
Bing webmaster tools show the same figures today as they did yesterday, so they are still there but google WMT has obviously thought again about which it will index/recognise for link juice.

WMT reporting big drop in links today
Has anyone else noticed a huge drop in inbound links in WMT tools today? I've seen a 50% slump overnight in 2 of my projects. Definitely something still stirring over at the Google data centres!

RE: Magento SEO and Rankings
Hi, Im not sure what you are really asking? the fluctuations you are seeing will not be related to Magento but to your SEO strategy and link profile (or rather Google's algorithms updates reaction to it).

RE: Anyone used clicksubmit.co.uk?
I checked a few and the link profiles were ok but not great. I cant help but notice that clicksubmit's own DA is a measly 27 which is odd.
Over all though I cant see anything alarming, so I might give them a go, it's fairly cost effective, and I am tiring of using off shore agencies who promise the earth and deliver either nothing or very dangerous work.
In an ideal world I could add 10 hours to the day so I could build links myself!
