There are literally 1000's of articles on link building.  My experience is that every industry and each website has to adopt and develop their own niche way to create backlinks. So in short there is usually no easy answer. It is just hard but enjoyable work.

My personal view on your suggestion is to go for it. Seems a reasonable approach, have no idea on success but certainly worth the try. Even if it fails you will learn from the process.

Yes. I do not worry about the speed variations - there are too many variables on each test. ie Which server did the test use?

My view on page speed is forget "time" and "time ranges" on various tools. If you have identified page speed as issue which you have focus on what you know you can and should fix. Don't just fix the minimum - on page speed fix the maximum. I believe page speed is a key factor on ranking.

Without checking your site quality relevant backlinks sound like the main concern.  Do you have a backlink strategy in place?  It does take time...

No, 100% do not disavow all.  Could be disastrous.  So only disavow in isolated select instances.

Spam scores for links are guides only - NOT answers.  Each link should be examined individually.

First step - is does your site have any sort of google penalty? Is the site ranking well?

If the site is ranking well, no google penalty and is "humming".  Then it is unlikely you will disavow.  Disavow is a last resort type scenario.

So can you tell us how is the site overall performing?

Yes, correct - multiple CCS files & javascript will not affect server response time - I think ryan was referring to page load speed.

It sounds like your site is ranking as it is. The first principle is always do no harm. If you clearly identify a spam link - then disavow. But you are through the big updates and it sounds like the links have an organic origin - so not high from the information on the priority list.

Obtaining backlinks - require some strategic considerations.  I will suggest a few easy options. Check out your link profile and see what links you can change from nofollow to follow.  Might be just a phone call or two.  But most importantly i would have a staff meeting - pay for the pizza...  then explain backlinks to all the staff & make the staff part of the solution as well.  Demand the boss get some editorial on the business and a backlink!

You cannot do everything - share the load.

Michael has identified page speed. That is correct - a big one, aim for under 2 seconds.

That all sound positive - however, am unable to give clear advice without a detailed audit.  A simple check is to put your URL into semrush and then look at the chart that comes up on the RHS above the fold.  If it has any major dips, it is worth investigating.

A second simply technique is using  https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/enhanced-google-analytics/damoaceajjhenadgpppcccgmanobikjh overlaying this with your google analytics and see if there is any corresponding dips in traffic with google algorithm updates.

No-one can really answer without a detailed inspection. That said you have not given me any "smoke" so it is unlikely there is a fire.

Hope that helps.  A spam score really is just an indicator - a flag - investigate - if nothing is broken - don't try and fix it.

Clever has nailed the answer.  Positions change daily on many SERP's. We use Moz, and Linkdex. It is about money and client funds ultimately and finding a platform you are comfortable with. Sometimes with big clients you need a very impressive chart to show them .. same data as you could have peeled off for free from a google platform...  it is almost a function of sales.

The key as Clever has pointed out is to find a benchmark, you feel is solid and put your stake in the ground and monitor the changes and variations from there.

One other aspect to consider it "fetch for google".  Google sometimes takes time to naturally index content. Then often for a period - google index the first in time content that was indexed first (makes sense!). Hence if affiliates are copying your content and using fetch for google, (and you are not) they may get an advantage of a few days / weeks - until google sorts it out.

It is a great tool.  So if you know this practice is going on I would make "fetch for google" mandatory.

The first question I would ask is why the new site? why no 301 redirects originally? Was it because of the panda update? Is the old content - old school so "keyword stuffed". The main issue is duplication and keyword stuffing.  Is penguin at play because of bad links to the old site? Is that why moved and nothing transferred.

If 100% certain penguin and panda not in play then is not an issue to transfer and then kill off the pages you are transferring from. Eliminate the old URLs from Google's index in Webmaster Tools. That ensures google is clear on what to index.

In a big transfer of content there can be a lot of manual labor depending on the CMS.  Hope you have a good CMS.

Regardless of how much is in the scroll it is all visible to google. Keeping the text visible on the page above the fold, with a few organically placed keywords is all first rate seo.

Hence what you suggest would only positively enhance your clients SEO - add in the usual caveats about keyword stuffing & relevance to be wary of.  So unless I am missing something all good.

Firstly 301's have lost a lot of impact, especially exact matching.  If a site is a genuine 301, amalgamating sites etc. that are contextual then it makes sense to 301.

However before we 301 a site, we audit the link profile etc. to make sure it does not have a penalty that would be carried across.

It is not a simple answer, however, the key element is impact nowadays is minimal compared to previous.

Yes, ideally you go through them all.

Poor grammar is a barrier to customer conversion.  If a potential customer hits a barrier they know your competitor is only one click away.

Poor grammar = no trust.  Would you trust a site to post you a package that writes sentences that are not easily understandable?

It can be painful but I believe it is necessary, it is time consuming maybe consider outsourcing the copywriting - ie obtaining a third party to check / correct it all for you. Cheap options include Freelancer & Elance etc. It should not cost very much.

Correct - I can give you a trick though.

If the SERP is a high value page. Thousands if not millions of dollars has been spent on Adwords A/B testing the Ads that work on that page. When you frame your meta description and Title if you can - take into account the top Ads that companies keep on replaying.  They would not keep running them, if not highly successful on that page.

What your describing is not uncommon.  Large companies often have interdependent websites interlinking.

The larger picture is whether google sees the structure as a PBN.

So first question is, how are the sites ranking, or at least the primary site?  If the site is ranking well - then no urgency and need to change anything.  So can you clarify?

I agree with Martijn.  First question do you get alot of traffic? If not then yes, fine tune and try and use the keywords customers will use to find your site in the lead up to Christmas. Also review H1 keep it in context.

If you get alot of traffic - do not change the Title but change the meta description, make it a great CTA for the festive season.

The meta description allows you an opportunity to construct your search result or Ad - for clickability.

Alick and Chris are spot on. You should consider creating a 156-160 characters meta description and ensure comprised with a call of action, so when customers read the meta description, they will be enticed to click on your link and visit your website. Meta descriptions are very important given their impact to directly drive traffic to your site.

Google has stated the meta description is not a direct ranking factor. Indirectly however it is. If more people click through to your website and those people ALSO engage with your website - our experience is your ranking can increase. If you increase your CTR on one page by changing the meta description it can translate into 1,000's of additional clicks per year.

Firstly great to post on your GMB page. So yes can get locally listed on GMB but if want authority - to link on organic that would be a lot harder - quality is key - see below.

On content - key element as in the medical field is to focus on quality, referencing and accuracy. google "medic update google" - August 2018 and you will see why suggesting.
