Mobile Googlebot vs Desktop Googlebot - GWT reports - Crawl errors
Hey Carla, I'm not entirely sure what you're saying with: "one of the crawl reports is showing tons of 404's for the "smartphone" bot and with very recent crawl dates. If our website is responsive, and we do not have a mobile version of the website I do not understand why the desktop report version has tons of 404's and yet the smartphone does not. I think I am not understanding something conceptually." You say that the smartphone bot is seeing tons of 404s and the desktop report is showing tons of 404s, but the smartphone does not. If you can clarify that, I can probably better answer your question. However, the answer is likely that Google may decide not to crawl URLs that it has already identified as 404s in one context. That is to say if they identify URLs on the mobile device as 404s they will know not to crawl them if they encounter them on desktop and vice versa. -Mike

Website architecture - levels vs filters and authority loss - Enterprise SEO
Hi Ryan, Thank you for your advise. The marketplace is going to be a big site so I think we will go with using both filters (mostly for product segmentation) and folders for blog pages, contact pages and so forth. Thanks again.

Google is not taking the title I set
Hi Carla, How did the change go? I am having similar issues with one of our partners as it keeps on putting the brand name before the description. It is also not picking up a the new meta description. Rather frustrating for sure. L

Multiple Google Webmaster Tools Configurations
Hi Carla, My name is Rattan and I work at FIRST NZ. That's strange, never came across such incident. Are the URLs same in both accounts (http:// and https://, www and non-www versions)? If you have access to both the accounts, you can remove one of the account and keep the preferable setting account active? To grant access to multiple users, add them as users. Regards

Sort term product pages and fast indexing - XML sitemaps be updated daily, weekly, etc?
You are correct, generally, Google will index when it makes sense for them to do so per their algorithms. It is not in my experience driven by the time on the XML sitemap. It could be loosely correlated, but not huge. You should setup up 301 redirects on the auctions that have ended. Don't 404 them, that is bad. Redirect them to a page for new related auctions (probably will require some code to be whipped up). You could try to utilize webmaster tools Fetch as Google to get the pages indexed, however, this is manual, not guaranteed that Google will index it and you only have so many requests available. Spend some more time on getting organic links via articles and other content in the niche. This will help on a number of levels not only in ranking but also attracting traffic from people interested in the product/market.

OnPage Reports - Duplicate titles and meta descriptions
Hi Carla, you can use the Crawl Test Tool Jesse mentioned to find duplicate titles and meta descriptions or any site. However, I believe what you are actually looking for is the Crawl Diagnostics Report, available for any campaign you have set up in your Moz Analytics account. To find it, go to http://analytics.moz.com/manage-campaigns and select the campaign of your choice. This will take you to the Dashboard Overview of that campaign. In the lefthand navigation, select "Search". In the subnav that appears, select "Crawl Diagnostics". From there, you can filter data and download reports. You can also schedule Custom Reports to be automatically emailed to you. Let me know if you needs more clarification on this, thanks! Christy

PPC - Fixing the campaign so ads always rank in positions 1 - 3
Hi Andy, Unfortunately I do not use any 3rd party software programs. Thanks for the tip on positions 4 -10. I will look at the conversion rates before moving the ads up. What do you consider an acceptable overall quality score for an ad group? Thanks Carla

Hi Egol, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a clear and informative answer. This is exactly what I was looking for. The company that made me the offer is not big and your comments regarding "who is paying me" are important. The ranges you posted are extremely helpful Thanks Carla

Google + - 2 accounts - Personal and Work Account
Thanks Vadim for your advise!. I have implemented your recommendation. BTW it is really easy to delete a G+ profile. The only bad news is that you have to re-upload your Youtube videos to the new account.

Authorship without Google+ - Ideas and strategies
Hi Takeshi, Thanks so much for getting back to me on this one. I am aware of Bing's experiments with Klout and just signed up for it today to test it out. I will be your response to my client. I can see this is a very aggressive move on Google's behalf. I wonder if eventually they will get dinged as Microsoft did on monopolistic behaviors. hehe...time will tell. Tks for your time! Have a good weekend Carla

Authorship, SEO and implementation at an institutional level
Thank you Dana. I will be reviewing those links. I am coaching local companies on SEO practices and this is one of the topics that I will be diving into...if I come up with anything more detailed or specific ....I will let you know. Lately SEO seems to be more about coaching and content marketing than anything else...but that is a different issue Happy New Year! Carla

Magento Plugin that speeds up loading time - Too good to be true??
Nope, it isn't too good to be true. Page caching is one of the smartest ways to increase speed. How it works depends on the plugin, but usually it avoids making queries to DB, and processing by saving a copy of a page for a certain amount of time, so when the next person asks for it, the site will serve the saved version instead of generating it all over again. EDIT: even on highly dynamic sites pages do not constantly change, for example, go to CNN now and go again in 1 hour, you will probably see the exact same thing but the latest news changed (most likely), but the rest of the page could be easily cached for 1 hour and avoid the re-generation so all those users accessing within that hour could be served with the cached copy instead of generating it thousands of more times (one for each visitor).
