It looks like I wasn't clear about the question but you still helped.

We are doing like a 10-part "Best 5 Products" (Best Red Shoes Blog Post, Best Blue Shoes Blog Post, etc) that includes the best products in different categories (each different blog posts) along with a buying guide like consumer reports. There will be a beautiful 10-button menu at the top that organizes the whole review. Goal is to do such a nice job it's not scalable. We'd like to draw off of external sources as well as our own interviews.

Except for consumer reports pretty much all the reviews are done by competition.

Maybe we could say that we pull from a variety of sources off the web through this consumer reports article combined with interviews.

How do we do this and word this? We don't have much in the way we can do with external bloggers this industry.

We're doing a product review series based on sales data.

How much should we link out? Consumersearch is the number one position with full sources for "best X product"

Consumersearch has flaws it looks like. The data reads correct but the products they are promoting are not the best based on our own customer service informal interviews.

Was wondering if we should include all data in the field including competitors and display our sources, or if we should just list in-house data.

Any other advice for this is appreciated too.

We've got a problem with one of our sites. Our main writer is too advanced for the mainstream SERPs. She is a genius at what she does and really writes beyond where the mainstream looks. Way beyond. I can't even ask her to dumb down, it doesn't make sense. I don't think we're going to hit any of the main (mainstream) keywords with this site because of it, which is fine, but what advice do you have to making money off ads with content like that? There doesn't even really exist keywords for her articles. It's hard to explain. The traffic will be small because the audience is large enough if we got the whole thing but small compared with mainstream. I think mainly experts will understand her.

The area of writing is conspiracy, fringe, ancient knowledge, progressive science, healing, consciousness, spirituality.

I guess I'm wondering what you guys would do. It would be great if this site could make a good income. She's been studying the topic nonstop for fifteen years.

I appreciate the responses and they make sense. I don't see a solution. I don't see our current site ever pulling out of penalty no matter what I do and we've got an income off of it.

As much as we would like, there's a possibility that our site will never recover from it's Google penalties.

Our team has decided to launch a new site in the same niche.

What do we need to do so that Google will not mind us having 2 sites in the same niche? (Menu differences, coding differences, content differences, etc.)

We won't have duplicate content, but it's hard to make the sites not similar.

We're switching from a mediocre cart to Volusion.com, which I love.

We've been in business for 10 years and have 8500 products. At least 75% of the products have never sold once. How do we know how many of those we can delete when switching carts? We only want to switch over the products we have to.

I don't really believe in spending a lot of time link building (and maybe that's a limitation of mine). I believe, at least for the small businesses I've been running, that producing targeted, thorough, very very helpful, useful, unique, authority based, knowledgable, transparent content is what most of the time should go into. I'm sure there are many exceptions in industry and company size.

We use a blog and feature it really big and solid on the home page.

So we're making a blog that has the qualities above (useful, unique ... transparent). How, while we're doing the writing, can we make the content also be good link bait? We need an awesome link profile. Also, what free easy afterward social or email outreach am I not including to maximize exposure (The only content marketing I do is posting blog posts right now on Facebook and Google+)? What would you do with the first $100 in this context? The first $300? (We're low budget always)

Holy crap Marie, this strikes me as the golden truth. Right now our content is moderate. We're changing that fast. We're adding targeted user oriented thorough blog posts - 2 a week. We just started.

What advice do you have for me about the content given what I just said?

In a site I'm working on, there was a bunch of link farms. We cleaned them all up about 6 weeks ago. There's no evidence of them in any backlink profile anymore.

My sense is that Google Penguin hasn't forgiven this site yet. I think our backlink profile is now clean.

What experience do you guys have with the time it takes to be forgiven? And what content/site changes can I make to help be forgiven, even if they are large content/site changes?

What do you think? Everyone in the industry has the same problem. Should I eliminate dozens of fettish sites backlinks or leave them alone? Or do you think that's not the problem?

I can't disclose my niche, I don't have permission, it's a legit product that just happens to have a side fettish following.

I could look at competitors and see if they have a lot of the same problems, but I'm just wondering if these sites are hurting us.

Thanks EGOL, Linda above (which seems really knowledgable) almost scared me off Shamanism. But the remarketing/behavioral comment makes sense and there's a lot of traffic.

By hyphenated, I meant that there's no price in the suggested price area on the Googele keyword planner. It's got a dash for many of the keywords, no dollar amount. I thought this meant ads don't do very well for that term.
