They are different things for used for different reasons. By using the robots to block any page behind a log in you will not have to worry about them trying to access that information at all. You should also have canonical tags pointing to themselves on all pages especially product pages and landing pages.

These extensions look like they are attachments. Go into GWT, click on the 404 link, then a box with pop up, click on the  "Linked From" tab.. Go to the page and Ctrl U to see the source code. Do a CTRL F and search for the broken link. When you find it in your source code you should be able to figure out what's triggering that response. If you can't find the URLs in your source code, mark them as fixed and it should take care of the problem. Especially if they are older. It looks like it could be a shipment status, a product out of stock message, and a PDF of train schedules. I would check the linked from pages and make sure that there isn't some erroneous code that is creating a page when it doesn't need to.

FYI, the "keyword I'm trying to rank for in my link example" is referred to as anchor text. Don't worry, I didn't know it either until someone told me. Also, you need to be careful with anchor text. The safest way is to get your brand in the anchor text, not a keyword. Too much anchor text targeted at a keyword could get you in trouble with the google. However, obviously, some matching keywords will definitely help your cause....as long as it is balanced and natural. In terms of creative ways to get backlinks, I would suggest you read Paddy Moogan's http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-link-building. It has a lot of helpful information and ideas. Best, Ruben

Short answer - Yes slightly less short answer -  just like most people add www. and none www. to webmasters its good to do the same for secure sites while not essential its good to make sure you've got all bases covered also means you don't miss any communications from Google that may come through that site. 1. Right, each post is linked to in the author byline at the top of the post. I don't believe the links there carry much weight either, but there are literally 1000s of them throughout the site for each category, and the links are connected to semantically relevant blog posts, as opposed to a topic-agnostic sidebar link. 4. Whoops, I goofed by calling it a "non-html" pull down (typing too fast). Of course it's HTML. I simply meant we moved them from a static sidebar format into a pull-down, non linking sidebar format. Hi Alex, Most of the time it's up to each SEOer on what they think and down to some judgment. I stay away from cheesy directories. I do sometimes submit to niche directories that I think people may be using to look for very niche sites etc. You can also consider the big boys like yahoo etc. but I never think you get a return on the cost to submit (I've also a feeling the yahoo directory is closing soon!) Sorry I can't say this is good this is bad its just a call you've got to way up.  is it worth the risk for the return?

Hi, One actually can't "force" Google to rank a site or a video, what would advise is one to EARN the right to be Ranked and Indexed by Google, this will be a more fruitful way of to approach this. The "forcing" attitude is more of a decade ago mentality unlike for one in 2015, of which may put you in contravention of Google's Webmaster guidelines. Leading to your site being DE-indexed from Google. What would advise is to highly optimize your YouTube page, have links pointing to it, get thousands of people viewing the YouTube Video, create Original Content, even promote the YouTube Video and without a doubt, it will be indexed and ranked by Google.

A point of clarification here related to the first part of your answer. Google does not use PA and DA, those are Moz metrics. They're not looking at the Moz metrics for a site when they use their algorithms.

BI - business intelligence is an important tactical advantage if you can establish what a competitor is doing SEO strategy wise that is.. So if you wish to tell the world exactly what SEO keywords you're targeting then sure go ahead.... It's a "not-too-smart" idea in my SEO world tho...
