  • HI Charles, If you run down the route of adding additional subfolders, you are very likely to be caught by the new Doorway Page algorithm. if you have pages for pages sake, then it could get messy. Here is what Google has to say about them. Here are questions to ask of pages that could be seen as doorway pages: Is the purpose to optimize for search engines and funnel visitors into the actual usable or relevant portion of your site, or are they an integral part of your site’s user experience? Are the pages intended to rank on generic terms yet the content presented on the page is very specific? Do the pages duplicate useful aggregations of items (locations, products, etc.) that already exist on the site for the purpose of capturing more search traffic? Are these pages made solely for drawing affiliate traffic and sending users along without creating unique value in content or functionality? Do these pages exist as an “island?” Are they difficult or impossible to navigate to from other parts of your site? Are links to such pages from other pages within the site or network of sites created just for search engines? By the sounds of things, I suspect you would fall into at least one of those grey areas. if they were to be produced, you would have to be able to justify them very well with lots of supporting content that was genuinely useful. -Andy

  • It sounds like this is a complicated situation. Regarding the disavow, each file you upload completely replaces the previous one. So, if you had unnatural links and then you uploaded a new file that did not contain some of those unnatural links, you've essentially asked Google to start counting them again. It can take time for them to start to count again as Google has built a lag in to the system to prevent people from trying to game it. However, it's certainly possible that the unnatural links are hurting you. The main algorithm that uses data from unnatural links is Penguin and Penguin has not refreshed since 2014, so it is unlikely that Penguin is affecting the site. But, there are other algorithms that use links. If one of those is affecting you, then reinstating a full disavow file should show some positive effect within a couple of weeks. With that said, as far as we know, the Quality update was not related to backlink quality, but rather on-page quality. So, if you dropped because of the Quality update then there are likely other issues with the site.

  • Hello! Thanks for reaching out to us and I'm sorry to hear you are seeing a lower domain authority score lately. Over the last few months, our index size has been increasing significantly and we recently reached a milestone of 300 billion links! Unfortunately, we could not release a similar amount for this month and had to cut the index size in half in order to prevent further delays. Our founder and current product architect has more detail about the situation here: http://moz.com/community/q/what-s-the-story-on-mozscape-updates To compare the numbers from the previous index, you can view those details here: https://moz.com/products/api/updates Hope this helps and we hope our next release will bring your scores back up! If you have further questions about this, feel free to write into us at help@moz.com. Thanks! Kevin Help Team

  • Yes, the videos have a common theme and we rank pretty well on long-tail variants of the main keyword. The bounce rate for that page is well under average for the site and we get a handful of new users every day.

  • Hey! Yes, we made the switch to SSL and everything went smooth. We set up our 301 redirects and submitted to Google right away. No real loss in traffic and our rankings for the 100+ keywords we monitor either remained the same or increased a little over the first couple months. So, that was pleasant to see and experience. The real test is when we finish and launch the new design, however, we will be working to keep our URL structure the same, but will be adding many more pages to the site focused on more educational/SEO friendly content. Not really caring if searchers stumble across it in their browsing, but moreso that Google indexes the content for our targeted keywords those pages are designed to capture and rank for (inner landing pages). As long as we're keeping our authoritative pages un-drastically changed, the URL remains the same and the content is about the same, we shouldn't experience much loss in rankings of traffic. If anything, we should see new keywords ranking very well in a short amount of time and our traffic increasing. We'll see come end of 2015, into 2016!

  • Hey Crystal, a couple things come to mind in this scenario. The first is the obvious stuff like duplicate GA tags, which in my experience cause 100% bounce rates, not 0%, but still could be a possible issue. The second is that something on the page is firing that causes a "single-visit but non-bounce session". The article linked earlier by Linda is a good explanation of this, but essentially there are multiple interactions a user can have on their first page of the site that would count as a non-bounce visit. They are: Pageviews (sent via _trackPageview) Events (sent via _trackEvent) Ecommerce Items (sent via _addItem) Ecommerce Transactions (sent via _trackTrans) Social (sent via _trackSocial) User Defined _deprecated, though functional _(sent via _setVar) (Cited from http://www.analytics-ninja.com/blog/2012/06/google-analytics-bounce-rate-demystified.html) So, if the developers installed a tag that fired an event when PPC visitors land on the site, for example, that would cause a 0% bounce rate from PPC visitors, even if that user left without viewing another page. Not sure if that's your problem for certain, but it was the first issue that popped into my head. I haven't heard of a remarketing script firing one of these hits but could be the reason.

  • Hi again Ravi, This and your previous questions have all been rather vague. It feels that you are after more of an SEO consultation than specific help with a problem. The people on this forum are amongst the most helpful out there and always willing to offer solutions. But in return, it is expected that posters do the basic research, and read the "free information" provided. I believe you have been pointed to the "beginner" SEO articles by moz several times in your previous posts. Join this with your moz reports and all the free tools supplied by google and you have many changes  you could begin to implement to improve your SEO. If you gave them a thorough read through you should be able to identify a multitude of sins that we would be more than happy to help with. Even if you provided us with a list of changes you have made so far, so that we could tell you where to look next it would allow us to provide you with an answer that could be built up on and demonstrate the efforts and pattern of thought you are currently on. Your current question asks alot of us...you do not provide us with any issue or information that makes you think something isn't right. All SEO fixes are done for a reason, you need to understand the reason before implementing a fix.  Your question expects us to go to your website, access speed etc, review your source code applying our knowledge, then make a list and tell you how to change it. These are things we have spent weeks, months, years building knowledge over and we simply cannot relay it in a single message. Let alone begin explaining how to fix it all. My advice would be to do some more research using the many resources you have been provided. Then come with a direct question such as "I have learnt speed is important to my website, what can i do to improve my websites speed". This will allow us to give you some more specific resources and direct advice that you can fix, then approach us with another question. Sorry if this sounded blunt, I just want to convey the importance of helping us help you.

  • Hi Oxana, It is best practice to focus one page to a keyword. This is what will prevent you falling foul of issues. However, I wouldn't use the same phrase for everything. When crafting a good page, you need to take an informative view of the results in the SERPs. When someone sees the page, the title should tell them exactly what they can expect to find. If it is information on a gold iPhone 6, then say this. If it is to try and get someone to buy one, say this. Buy 24k gold iphone 6 | Site name 24k gold iphone 6 information | Site name You get the gist. Then look at the description. Remember to keep this informative as this is often the precursor to someone clicking on your link. Within the page, don't use the exact same phrase (24k gold iphone 6) as an H1 or as the ALT tag. You can get caught out for boilerplate template if you carry the same across other key factors, and Google will be watching for this. There is no harm in mentioning a gold iPhone 6, but be descriptive in how you do it. Use it in the content, but don't overuse it. Google is very good at understanding what a page is all about without them having it stuffed down their throat. Remember, you are writing for the visitor, not Google. There is a lot more to the visitor experience than SEO alone. -Andy

  • Hello Patrick, Thank you for the great resource! This part was what we where looking for; Move all URLs at once**.** We advise you move all URLs on your site simultaneously instead of moving one section at a time. This helps users interact with the site better in its new form, and helps our algorithms detect the site move and update our index faster. • Hi Patrick, No, turns out I had been thorough and changed all the link in the sitemaps and on every page previously pointing to it. Having screaming froged it and follows the path through the rewrites etc it turns out What was causing the problem was the inbuilt layered navigation in Magento. Each CMS created page produces a navigational path to the current page just above the content in this case Home > Page1 > Sub Page  etc  each of these is a link to the hierarchy so the user can easily navigate. The page in question (and only this page) seems to have a special rule set up for it (must have been back in development) where the navigation becomes Home > Page1 > Page1 > Subpage where the first 'Page1' is linked to via     website.co.uk/Page1    instead of    website.co.uk/page1/   like the rest of the website. I have found a temporary way around it for now, having located the link until i can address the source code causing the issue
