  • Hello Anirban, The main reason large-scale websites like Indeed feature so prominently on SERP's is that there are more ranking factors at work than just content. While Panda has been created to avoid duplicate content issues and it is widely known that duplicate content can lead to penalties and reduced ranking potential, duplicate content can be over-shadowed by other ranking factors, like a website's link profile and it's Authority relative to websites in its niche. For example, Wikipedia is widely cited by webmasters around the world, but it features a lot of repetition and is an internal linking nightmare where crawling and indexing are concerned. That being said, it is normal to find a Wikipedia page every time a "What Is" query is made. Youtube is in a similar situation. There are duplicated videos and content galore on that domain, but it is linked to so frequently that it simply cannot be beaten when it comes to domain authority and relevance. While Indeed is probably being impacted by duplicate content, this pales in comparison to its link profile and the relevance it has in its industry. Hope this helps! Let me know if I can help with anything else. Best regards, Rob

  • Hello Christopher, As a general rule, a single directory link to your website is fairly insignificant (assuming you have a strong link profile for your website already). It is unlikely that cancelling this subscription will result in a significant rankings drop, unless it is your business' only inbound link, in which case I would strongly advise you to contact an SEO to provide you with link-building services (or you could do it yourself, there are plenty of link-building guides out there). Here are some articles on ways you might build up a link profile: Basic: Beginner's Guide: https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links Beginning a Link Campaign: https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-link-building/campaign Difference between "Good" and "Bad" links: https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-link-building/metrics Advanced: Link-Building Tactics:  https://moz.com/blog/high-value-tactics-futureproof-link-building-whiteboard-friday Link-Building Tactics: https://moz.com/blog/eight-link-building-tips-whiteboard-friday There are plenty of ways to provide your website with a decent link profile. I would be happy to help you put together some ideas for future SEO work revolving around your link profile. Feel free to reach out any time! Hope this helps and best regards, Rob

  • Your Google Maps profile does have a link to your site (without the www, but it properly redirects to the www version, so no issue there) if you update the URL for your website in Google My Business to the www. version, it will take 24-48 hours for the change to reflect. BTW, if you are looking for more high DA authority pages to add links back to your site on, I found this article which lays out some additional options: https://www.serpwoo.com/blog/experts/increasing-your-domains-trust/ They might not all be applicable, but worth checking out. https://www.serpwoo.com/blog/experts/increasing-your-domains-trust/

  • Hello, Olga. If you want to simply remove it (or at least tell Google bots that it's removed), use "410 Gone" status, not 404. For user experience, I'd redirected those subdomains to index page of domain, or, if you have time and resources, create a landing page, saying something like "Sorry for inconvenience, the content is not there anymore, use search to find whatever you need ", add a search bar of main domain content, viola! Hope this helps.

  • Hi Tom! When you look at a Moz Local listing in the Check Listing tool, you can see a list of duplicate listings that pull up in the Duplicates tab. Here you can request removal of these duplicates, which would most likely include the older locations of your most recent listing. Can you write into help@moz.com with your specific example so that we can take a look and figure out the best way for you to proceed? Thanks! Kevin Help Team

  • Hello Emil - to answer your questions: On-Site Content For starters, your best bet is probably to initiate a campaign to produce a fair amount of static content for your website which will form the "backbone" of your on-site ranking factors. For any site, you want to make sure your Home Page and any landing pages feature a fair amount of content (estimates range between 500 and 2000 words, on average) in order to maximize ranking potential. Text-based content is huge, especially if your site is primarily based in images/Javascript, etc. Next Steps: Create a categorical page and ensure all images are unique/receive alt-text This is the way to go if you get significant traffic to your website but not your social media accounts, or you don't have the time/resources to be on social media all the time. The idea here is to create static content on your site which Google typically reacts more positively to. Create a blog for images and share on social media platforms This is the way to go if you want to extend brand awareness and build it up. From what you tell me, this sounds like something that is occurring naturally and something you can leverage for future traffic/rankings. Social media signals don't directly impact rankings, but they do create traffic which can produce positive signals to Google if your content is well-received on social media. This requires a bit more time and dedication to social media, but the results are there for the taking. It also doesn't require lengthy articles. Social Media Platforms: In terms of what social media outlets to use - Instagram and Pinterest are great places to start, and you can utilize twitter and Facebook as well. If you have something more business-oriented, linkedin is a decent option. For you, though, Instagram should be your bread and butter. There's no reason why you can't have a blog on your domain and an instagram account with the same set of images, etc. Duplicate content is a bit of red herring as it tends to be seen as a penalty-causing factor when in reality it is generally neutral to a website's rankings. The only way this would cause concern to me is if you are using spammy tactics or literally duplicating another website verbatim. If your content is reoccurring on your site (and no one else's) then you are probably fine from a Panda perspective. Hope this helps and feel free to bounce any ideas off of me moving forward - love to help! Rob

  • first - a question - are they doing this intelligently?  meaning are the keyword tags unique or reasonably unique to the page at hand? if so, here might be 2 good reasons: 1 - They use them internally as a simple way for lower level people to understand what the page is "for" 2 - They use them as part of content curation or internal search if not, then they may be generally not paying attention and some CMS technician is just filling in the boxes.

  • Hello, I would be happy to put in my 2 cents for this conversation. In general, what you are considering is only a worthwhile investment of time and resources if your website is consistently building content or currently has an enormous load of it. In other words, if this is a huge website with 1000's of pieces of content (I'm thinking something along the lines of a PR company, media hub or entertainment daily), then this is definitely advisable. If not, you can probably get a bigger bang for your buck in other sectors of SEO. If you want to discuss or bounce some ideas off of me, feel free to reach out! Best regards and good luck with moving forward, Rob
