Thank you for your question and concerns. Moz is committed to providing high quality metrics. I wrote a piece about it prior to my joining Moz a month or two ago comparing the proportional representativeness of Moz's index to Google vs. the other major providers, which showed that Moz's crawl was more representative of Google than any other. An unfortunate side effect of monitoring index and metric quality is actually doing something about it when things don't look quite right. We would rather know we delayed an unsatisfactory release than not know if we delivered a satisfactory one. That being said, I think you will be pleasantly surprised over the next year or so with the improvements you see coming out of the Big Data team in everything from quality to quantity and stability. They are doing some truly amazing things.

Referral Spam
According to Google, they don't use any Google Analytics related data for rankings - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgBw9tbAQhU Is it a type of commercial warfare by competitors? No, it's spam, which is targeted towards your curiosity - "oh, I got this visit from this website. Let me check it out". The only negative effect is polluting your GA reports and data. Fortunately, there is a way to setup filters and block all ghost and referral spam. Here is an article - https://moz.com/blog/stop-ghost-spam-in-google-analytics-with-one-filter About experience with it - yes, I have been fighting it for quite long time by now and what I see is that the amount of referral and ghost spam to our website grows like crazy, however rankings are not affected at all. At least, they are growing, accordingly to our SEO work.

Wordpress log attempt spam?
You can install something like https://wordpress.org/plugins/better-wp-security/ There are settings to auto-block people after a certain amount of incorrect logins (or blacklist). I also recommend changing some Wordpress defaults (like the login/register page) which will help prevent lots of bots.

How much content is it safe to change?
I would have absolutely no concerns over changing your content, as long as you are confident you are changing it for the better.

Crawl Diagnostics: How many pages (deep) will it crawl for dup content
Hello! The standard and medium plans will each have a set limit to crawl up to 50,000 pages. The higher plans have adjustable limits, 10,000, 20,000, etc. Hope this helps

Traffic drop: site move from .co.uk to .info
Hi Dmitri The percentage decrease is the same across each location, and the biggest hit is in the UK which hasnt recovered much. Redirects are consistent each day. I'll drop you a line and give you access to my GA, any insight would be appreciated

Website Traffic Drop After Switch
Hey guys, big thanks for everyone chiming in here. We did do the fetch as Google and don't have any rel canonical and we didn't move to any other domain (even kept the same IP) We've dipped down -8% in Google, which is very expected with such a large switchover but the 25-% drop in direct traffic is what has been hard to figure out. At first I thought it might search traffic masquerading as direct (as several articles have noted) but that is only down -8%. It might be technical of nature, perhaps the analytics code isn't firing correctly somewhere. I was just curious what you all had experienced with a major re-launch... Up until this point the site was last overhauled in 2007.

How to Best Optimize for Multiple Cities and Services Areas?
Happy New Year to you, Chad! So, typically, here's how you do a service area business: You create a set of pages for the services offered. If the business is physically located in a good city, you can incorporate this into the optimization of these pages, but the main focus of these pages is the services being offered (plumbing, HVAC, etc). You create a second set of pages for the MOST important cities the business serves. You don't create a page for every possible city, but just for the ones that are really key to the business. The content on these pages can summarize the menu of services offered, but the main focus is on the company's work in that city. A good way to approach the 'meat' of this content is UGC including testimonials and reviews (including video reviews) in that city. You can also include videos of projects being accomplished in those cities, with text descriptions. In this way, you have two distinct sets of pages (an no duplicate content) that cover all of your services and your major cities. The main feat here is to educate the clients as to the importance of assembling enough material to make these pages really strong instead of weak. They shouldn't just be thrown together. They should be templated, carefully planned, well written and very engaging to consumers. There are other possible approaches, but this is the one I'd typically recommend. Hope this helps!

What Andy said - nope, there are much bigger factors at play c) Can I use the same layout when some pays and just chance the button direction? d) If there is anything else you see that needs changes. I will be forever grateful. Absolutely - here's some blunt high-level advice: The design could really use some work. This could just be my opinion, but users really want to trust websites. Design can convey (or hurt) trust. The site looks old and outdated, and I'm just not sure users will trust the content, and further really enjoy and like the site. The design needs to reflect the quality and recency of information you have and the overall brand experience. Expand into other marketing channels - what else do you have going on besides SEO? You want to become a known "brand" that when people think of 'film crew jobs" they think of going directly to ICREWZ instead of Google. Be better than Google for users to find these niche listings. This might take (aside from a design upgrade), other marketing - anything - be where your target audience is - maybe that's social (instagram??), podcasts, video is a huge one - I'd expand beyond two YouTube videos and do way more there. Maybe it means also facebook ads and/or PPC. In other words - build an audience somewhere/anywhere. You're posting just basically a feed of job listings etc on social - instead, do that only 20% of the time and the rest of the time work on building engagement and an audience . You actually have people using the site yes? Leverage all those relationships and customer base to promote your site. Maybe they have websites, blogs, channels, YouTube shows etc etc - how can you partner with them to get in front of their audiences. I'd also ask your existing customer base about problems they are having and then creating that blog content for them to help solve their issues. All that stuff - and much more I didn't mention - will feed back into your SEO success much more than scrolling

The W3C Markup Validation Service - Good, Bad or Impartial?
I am my own client, so I can be as picky as a want, and I take care of the details that I feel are important. I pay close attention to how the site is responding and rendering when I pretend that I am a visitor. I pay even more attention when a customer or visitor writes to me with a complaint. In my opinion, if the site is working great then all is good. W3C validation seems to be of jugular importance to W3C evangelists. They will tell you that you will burn in Hell if you don't achieve it with flying colors. People who want to sell you their services will point at any fault that can be detected. Practical people have a different opinion. I try to be as practical as possible.

Product descriptions, when do they become classed as duplicate content, how different do they have to be?
Hi Pete, Andy nails most things so ill just talk about the "how different part". Google is very good at identifying the structure of a sentence and determining its meaning. To simplify things I always look at it like this "It is warm" is the same as "It is hot" changing text like this and hoping its unique is asking for trouble. Instead try to write as if you are a different personality appealing to a different type of person within the context of the site. Site: 1 Mr technical writes the content for this site. Your all about the technical features, why they outshine the other specifications and why thats good. Site 2: Mr indulgent writes for this site, he is less concerned with the technical and is all about actually using the product. He talks about the ease of use and how great if feels to use etc. Site 3: Mr in the middle, he has a descent amount of respect for the technical elements and mentions them, and has a more speculative approach of explaining why this would be good. These three personalities all talk very differently, use a different pool of words, create these persona's and be them as you write. This will give you the base difference to make identical information very different. To combat similar products, my approach has been to not try to distinguish them too much but to engage with the similar products and talk about them. For example product A is the same as product B except product B has a special paint on it that makes it look good so it costs more. So product A is all about value, its the cheapest in the range so great value for money, affordable but with all the necessary perks. Product B is luxurious, not only does it have everything product A has but looks dang good and is a real head turner. This approach allows you include all the important content needed to get the word count up and make it a good page but present in a way that is very different.
