What is the proper way to handle a fully https site transition from an http site
Are you in anyway related to that "Beaver Country" game? I'm not sure why they would be 301 redirecting that subdomain to you... It has links from Apple, etc. related to that particular game. If you do have a page/content or something else that would be related to that particular site, then, but aren't the "new" version of that site, you might try a blanket redirect for traffic from that referrer to the related page on your site. e.g. adding something like this to htaccess.. RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .gameon.timesonline.com.$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.allstatebanners.com/some-page Note.. I have not tested the above code.. but it should give you the basic idea of redirecting all traffic from that referrer to a specific page of your site... You could also use that same logic to simply block all the referral traffic altogether. -Jake Bohall

Duplicate content on Places to Stay listings pages
Thank you Bernadette. The one thing I'm struggling with here is how to recognise what the actual duplicate content is as it's a listing page which generates different results each time. Here are some examples: https://www.i-escape.com/boutique-hotels?collection[0]=barefoot https://www.i-escape.com/boutique-hotels?collection[0]=dog-friendly https://www.i-escape.com/mysore/boutique-hotels https://www.i-escape.com/namibia/boutique-hotels Best wishes, Clair

AdWords Editor auto-correcting keywords
Not sure about this: Over the Summer, Google updated the Keyword Planner to combine more terms and it made it less accurate. You can no longer search for exact matches, misspellings, or plurals using the tool and have to take the aggregate data. Hopefully Google will build a new tool to fulfill this need that many marketers have. I'm actually seeing the old keyword information, in order to do that you need to have an active adwords account. Not sure if there is any spent threshold tho. Or if you are trying to do keywords discovery you can easily use keywordtool.io which is a combination of adwords kw planner and ubersuggest. If you have actively running adwords campaign, I wouldn't use SEarch console data but run a search terms report so you can real user queries reaching your site. Hope this helps.

.htaccess code
What I'm looking to do is pass the link juice on from about 5,000 backlinks still pointing at our old site (which exists in domain form only a present) to the new site. Are these links pointed to the home page? Or are these pointed at relevant landing pages? If to the home page (and page is same on new site) nothing is needed. If these links are pointed to a landing page, you will need to route them to a related page on the new site and 301. Are you saying there's not point in using a 301 if the page doesn't exist? Yes, no point unless there is a new landing page that is some-how related. I don't really understand why you'd use a 301 if the page still existed...? If the page is on the new site and is the same url, no 301 is needed.

Change domain.com to www.domain.com - influence on linkbuilding, seo, etc.
Hi there, It's a delusion that 30x redirects can lead to PageRank loss. This has now been confirmed multiple times by Gary Illyes and John Mueller. As long as you properly implement a 301 redirect, there shouldn't be any issues.

Indexing problem a large site
Ok, are any of the pages ranking. If not I would look if Google can easily find these new urls from your nav / internal links. Also I would recommend checking your server logs, if Google can't / haven't crawled the pages they can't index them. Final point, if these pages are completely off topic and the rest of the site is about toothbrushes and you add pages about cars, Google might be unsure about these new pages and how authoritative you are in the niche especially if these fall into the YMYL categories. If its the last issue you would probably need to work on link building into this section of the site from authority sites within the niche.

Is too high a frequency of 'money' keywords backlinks considered factor for Penguin penalties, even if the money keywords are on reputable pages ?
Not only money making keywords but over emphasize on any keywords will be dangerous for your link profile. Whenever I think of anchor link, I consider one thing and that is the fact that this keyword on anchor will make sense or not. I mean, when I am getting a link in between of the blog post (within the content) there is good chance that I can get an exact match or atleast partial match anchor text. But, in author bio, donation links, mention links, reverse image search in most cases it will be either naked URL, brand name or some text that may or may not be your targeted keyword. My advice is to make sure that its making sense to have the kind of anchor text, if not you know what steps you should take from there.

Do .ac.uk (UK education / university sites) count in the same way as .edu backlinks
Longtime back Wil Reynolds discuss in one of his presentation that .EDU domains are same as any other normal domains. The reason why they become so important is that most people and reputable website easily link to .EDU or .GOV websites, which make themselves reputable with time. But, at its core, saying that just because one domain s .EDU it will be respectable automatically, is not true. So no matter if the URL contain .EDU extension or not, you should look into their link profile and see if the link profile is clean and valuable, you should consider getting a link from them like you would have done for .EDU website. Just a thought!

How long you've seen it take to rank in small niche
This is just wildassguessing... When you metrics are overwhelming, and your content is greatly superior by formal industry standards... but these little cottage industry sites with informal content and a tribe of visitors are beating you.... your best prayer of getting to the top is to be patient and allow Google to observe that your visitor metrics put enough weight on the scale to make your site more credible. Google will believe rubbish for a while but strong truth can still prevail.
