  • Hi, No, they shouldn't penalise. A lot of companies are bought out by bigger companies and then only have 1 page on a new domain to redirect all of their pages to. I would say that there would be little to no chance of any penalisation. All the best, Sean

  • Hi, Great point! I will look further. My guess is that the competitors are active also. A second thing, though your bounce rate decreases, it is highly possible the average time decreases also, due to as more incoming traffic, more visitors realise, after a couple of seconds, that is not what they want. Plus, I think all of us goes to a second and third option to compare. Maybe it is not a bad idea to stay in 2nd or 3rd, depending on the conversion, of course. It seems we all have to be accustomed to fluctuation, it came to stay. At the end of the day, is great for the good SEO practitioners.

  • Hello jpeg80, If you would like to filter the local organic traffic in GA, you can use this Campaign URL Builder from Google to generate a UTM tracking URL. Replace the homepage URL that you use in the directory, Bing Places, and Google My Business listings with the tracking URL and GA will begin tracking this traffic in Campaigns > All Campaigns. You can see the new sessions, bounce rates, goal completions, etc. I hope this helps! Alicia

  • As to the third part of your question... there can often appear to be a correlation between some of those offerings and improved site metrics which could be signals for improving organic rankings. But there is no definitive cause and effect that I can point to that would say "yes, always put these in" or "no, they never work." More specifically, having legitimate and useful reviews can help improve user engagement and can help to improve conversion rate. Having a decent amount of reviews can also allow you to add schema markup to the page that can add star ratings into your organic results which could improve your CTR. Will it always do this? No, but it can. Videos are also a good way to improve user engagement, if its a decent and relevant video. Especially useful if people like it enough to share it either because its incredibly informative on the relevant subject or really amusing. This increase in time on page, lowered bounce rate, shares, etc. could improve organic rankings but there is not always definitive proof that this is the case. Videos can have the opposite issue as well... sometimes they just want their question answered or the information presented to them instead of sitting through your 2 minute video about the product offerings or how to install it. Good images is just good business and so are good descriptions. Having relevant images on your page can also help you take up real estate in image search as well as generic organic SERPs. Having an informative description can help with a variety of ranking signals. But you need to make sure that you are not going overboard, stuffing keywords, or attempting to game the system. For some people, adding 5 images with great, informative descriptions could be helpful. For others it could be 10 images. But for some, those 10 images could wind up inadvertently hurting them if they don't things according to best practices. Highlighting relevant blog posts? Well, that could help with retention on site as people are more likely to find the information that they need quicker and easier. Promoting flow through your site to the right information is a plus to UX which would make people more likely to come back to your site or to suggest this site to other people. It could also help with the flow of link equity to relevant pages that would then benefit from the infusion and possibly rank better. Or if overdone, or not done properly, it could have no effect, little effect, or the opposite effect as you clutter the page with extraneous links or dilute equity by pointing links at irrelevant pages. Email subscriptions. This won't necessarily have any sort of organic impact but can help in the retention of users who are then slightly more likely to return as direct visits. If you're looking for a magic bullet to increase your rankings via user engagement, there is no such thing. There are things to consider best practices and things that work for the right types of sites and things that work well if done properly.

  • Well for one thing keeping and maintaining a keyword map that is map out to all the url's you want to target might help. Also, consider adding modifiers on keywords that you suspect might fall victim to cannibalization.

  • In theory yes it shouldn't make a difference to your international rankings. It's just making sure Googlebot (which does come from the US) is able to crawl your website. For every other country, because it's for legal reason I would suggest just block them, but you need Googlebot (and other bots like Roger) to crawl your website. Instead of completely blocking traffic from the US, would it be possible (and I don't know the legal requirements) to detect if the visitor is from the US and show them a different page? "Sorry, we can't help you but here are some great resources" and link to some American sites. Hopefully, Google would still crawl your website as would be able to see your sitemap. Sometimes if it's a legal requirement you have to do it, even though it may potentially harm your rankings (I have a similar issue with a finance client, where some of the legal requirements go against Google / UX best practices but they have to be done to trade). What I would do is once you have blocked US visitors, is monitor Search Console and your server logs to make sure Googlebot is still crawling your website as frequently and as deeply.

  • Hi Andy, Thank you very much for sharing your experience with the issue. I will do as you said, asking for a standard related to communication. Sadly, as far as I know, at the other side of the line there is plenty of developers, although without no comprehension of SEO. Despite that, it is a pleasure to work for a very technical niche and my client is fully supportive. Also, it helps to develop a quick thinking regarding SEO technical issues; which is not my field of expertise. I shall share your advice about the Wordfence plugin premium. Thanks again. All the best, Mª Verónica B.

  • I think, it's good . From building links perspective , it is wise decision . But having content duplicated within many 30 geo TLD might cause issues, as the content to bring single place , there are many chances all same content can conflict and difficult to attain its value  ..

  • Thanks Adriana, I did as you suggested, but in my earlier attempts I didn't think to disabled any extension that might interfere so I added that to my attempts this time and still getting the same results.  I have emailed a ticket. Thanks for the suggestions. Dan

  • So yes it would be easier if you had Gmail- those would be 100% available because Google can identify right away the user's behaviour when logged in. The issue is all the other emails, Google has to be able to associate those emails though Google accounts (Google Apps, possibly by using an email as a recovery email- though don't quote me on the second one, ect) So narrow down your retargeting, don't just use visitors that come to the site, try to identify ones that meet specific metrics- visits to certain pages on the site, time on site as an example and keep your geographical modifier tight. I would also look at Youtube for your retargeting. It has a low CPV and will get your content with rich media and Branding in front of prospective clients. So also as an overview I would look at what do I want to accomplish, am I trying to get branding in front of the decision makers or am I trying to reach them when they are looking to make that change. If it is Branding I would say YouTube and Linkedin. You aren't going to be able to get granular enough on Facebook and my hunch is your target audience isn't there behaviorally. If your goal is to get the right people when they are looking for Real Estate, stick with the Search Based Ads, but really look at two things. First find the right keywords. The $30 dollar keywords might not be the right ones, look for very specific searches that your target would be looking for. Don't waste your money on "commercial real estate" as an example. And the second part is make your landing page really tight. Look and experiment at Lead Capture for PPC. From my experiment with Real Estate the Funnel is very long- you need to be able to nurture them, so if they are coming in on an Awareness stage search, lead capture their so you can quantify if they are your target  early on. Just some off the cuff thoughts.

  • Just echoing Dmytro I would noindex, also this can help resolve duplicate issues as often the "Tag" and Search pages can create duplicates or pages the spiders have trouble with. If you are using Wordpress Yoast has a nice feature to help automatically care for this task.

  • It also depends on your sample size. If you can trigger the law of big numbers, you can get accurate information from your analytics, but if you have a small following, I recommend just using common sense.  If you have a smaller reach, the assumptions you make from your reports might lead you astray.  Is your audience on Thursday at 6pm low because they'll always be low on Thursdays at 6 or because last Thursday there was a Sacramento Kings game and many of your fans were attending.  This week the Kings game is Wednesday and you might have moved all your Thursday activities to Wednesday if you interpreted the information wrong.

  • Hi Gab, the not being able to link with supported third-party imports is a known technical issue with google and the merchant-center without any specific time line for a fix. the best likely course would be to simply contact prestashop-support for potential alternatives and also possibly ask within the petrashop forums: https://www.prestashop.com/en/contact-us https://www.prestashop.com/forums/ see also https://support.google.com/merchants/#topic=3404780 **I picked above suggestion given in adwords community by an author Celebird https://www.en.advertisercommunity.com/t5/Google-Shopping-and-Merchant/Link-your-PrestaShop-and-Merchant-Center-accounts/td-p/835994 Thanks

  • WE LOVE THIS QUESTION. Have you used your site for other content purposes like blogging? If you're a directory, you could reach out to reputable companies (or whatever you're a directory for)  and ask them to either guest post on your blog and then share it on social media, or you could use link building tactics to get people to link to your site. Make sure you add the value to your directory or aggregator, and make it clear what the purpose of your site is. One thing you could take advantage of is social media. Since you're an aggregator, you probably have a niche or target, and you can reach that audience to funnel traffic to your website through social media. Other than that, we would just recommend making sure your backend is as tight as possible, and make sure it's optimized for mobile, since mobile is a huge factor. Another thing to look into would be to optimize for voice search. Hope this helps, and looking forward to seeing other responses!

  • We track 35 sites carefully and we are yet to find any evidence that we can attribute to the penguin update. We have asked around and have not yet come across anyone who has been impacted. We are keen to hear from anyone with a clear and obvious impact.

  • Definitely, agree with Robert. You do not need rel=canonical tags on filtered / search views of your content. After you remove these rel=canonical's, I'd suggest running your site through Screaming Frog's rel=canonical error report to confirm that the rel=canonical issues are fixed. Hope that helps, B
