  • Hi Jeremy, Hmm, sorry if that's creating an issue. I'd suggest getting in touch with Touchpoint Digital's David Deering to see if he has time to consult with you on any complex schema issues you can't resolve or find good advice for. He's the master, as far as local schema is concerned. Sorry my suggested solution seems like it wouldn't resolve the issue.

  • Can anyone offer any insight on this? The issue shows no sign of improving, and our organic is tanking. If this really is an issue on Google's side, and it appears based on our technical set up, how can I force Google to take note and reindex the pages? Here are some more examples, from across a number of categories.. Category A: Page that has dropped out of index: https://goo.gl/KEQ8Yh Cached version of that page: https://goo.gl/DPzFWM Page that has dropped out of index: https://goo.gl/5KiQ4s Cached version of that page: https://goo.gl/myRWNg Category B: Page that has dropped out of index: https://goo.gl/pr3YQs Cached version of that page: https://goo.gl/8SEYi5 Page that has dropped out of index: https://goo.gl/LqzDrg Cached version of that page: https://goo.gl/iwPs45 Category Page that has dropped out of index: https://goo.gl/YBZS7c Cached version of that page:https://goo.gl/n33QzG Page that has dropped out of index: https://goo.gl/Ht4gfO Cached version of that page: https://goo.gl/u81vbA

  • It is dangerous if you simply move the content to another domain and don't have plans to implement redirects, etc. It isn't "dangerous" if done correctly. A well executed migration may see a drop in traffic for a 2-6 weeks (ballpark) and then things should settle back in to normal levels. It's going to depend on the size of the site and the complexity of the migration (content being eliminated, added, massive URL structure changes, etc). Here are some good migration resources: Domain Migration Checklist Domain Migration Lessons How to Change Domain Names and Keep Rankings

  • We will definitely employ the 301 redirects once we completely audit the HTTPS site for any absolute links. I just wanted to ensure that we wouldn't have two sites in the index during the transition. Thanks for the feedback.

  • Thanks Tymen, Anthony - that helps a lot. It is indeed - domain.com/post-title (no category in url) so I am safe to clean up the site without repercussions. Better to learn this lesson now than down the line. Cheers!

  • I don't use social.  If you make content like what is described above, the visitors to your website will share it on social for you. It is easy to describe what is above, but difficult to pull it off.  If you want to see examples of this type of content just visit the Moz.com blog.  It takes this type of content to be published there. Again, these links are valuable.... https://moz.com/blog/why-good-unique-content-needs-to-die-whiteboard-friday https://moz.com/blog/how-to-create-10x-content-whiteboard-friday

  • Hey Shirley - Thanks for the question! Short answer is no - the information does not have to be different. What should happen with a canonical is that the search engines will see the canonical and apply the ranking for Page A to Page B. However, the search engines do tell us that a canonical is a suggestion and that they do not always respect it if they think it was either a) done in error or b) is being done to manipulate. So, assuming Page B really is a duplicate of or a better version of Page A, yet you want to keep Page A around for some reason (PPC landing page or other), then the meta info will likely be similar anyways. Finally, if you are canonicalling Page A to Page B, make sure that Page A is not in your XML sitemaps! Good luck! John
