Copy partial content to other pages ?
As long as you make sure the content differs slightly across the board, you'll be fine--especially if the bulk of it is new, super unique content. Depending on the service, it could be useful to have different "default" content to add to certain pages--if it's a seasonal service, there's one paragraph you tweak as needed, etc. Hope that helps!

Page Title versus H1 title
of course! so my recommendation would be to inspect the page (with chrome dev tools) and see if it is styled as an H1, and if it isn't styled as a true H1, I would add that as a task to your backlog but I wouldn't suggest that you make it higher priority then other more important ranking factors. That being said, most of these SEO best practice recommendations come from people doing tests and identifying trends, so there is no 100% solid answer that "yes you NEED it to be styled as a true H1" or "no it does not matter at all". My personal opinion is that it still carries some value, so if you can figure it out, I would recommend that you do have it read as a true H1 tag. Even if it does not impact your rankings significantly, I think that your site will be better off following all recommended best practices.

How important is it to use a keyterm word-for-word to rank for that term?
Well if the title isn't good enough to read for the user then just don't use the exact keyword match. Because that will only make the page suck more when it's not good for the user it's probably also not good for the search engines in the end.

Our Google my business listings aren't syncing with Moz listings. I've tried importing them but nothing happens. Anyone know what the problem could be?
Thanks for the response Tawny. I did submit a request to Moz support and they say the engineering team is currently looking into it. It has been over two weeks, so I was just trying to see if anyone else had an answer. Hopefully they figure it out soon!

Location of body text on page - at top or bottom - does it matter for SEO?
Thanks v much Marie - that's really useful - this sounds like it'd be good to test so will try to do that and see what happens.

Is it okay to leave off H1 tags?
It's worth changing it in my opinion. When I joined my company, they also didn't use H1 tags and essentially used Hx tags as styling tags (which they are not). Even just all the basic on-page SEO has had a very noticeable effect on traffic. That said, if you are working to a deadline, I would say you have to weigh your priorities. Not using correct Hx structure won't kill your SEO, it's just a missed opportunity. So do it, but if it has to wait a while, it's not going to be a massive issue. Changing the styling should be fairly easy. Simply copy the styling used for H2 to H1 and then update your website (template) to use H1 for the main header on each page. H1 and page title don't have to be absolutely identical but it makes sense for them to be fairly similar. So yes, you can use keyword variations, but if they are too different that might make it look spammy - both need to accurately describe the content of the page.

How do I customize Magento product urls?
I installed this extension- https://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/custom-product-urls-seo.html but could not figure out how to get it to work. In case anyone else runs across this here is what the developer sent me and it worked- "Second way to set url key using my extension is to tick products on product list in backend and use mass action "Set Custom URL". Then apply pattern to chosen products. Then again if you wish to chcek created url rewrites go to Catalog > Url Rewrites and see urls containing category names."

How do I recover from a double 301 mistake?
Gotcha, ok well that's a relief. In troubleshooting the drop we are looking at a few more factors. Do any of these sound suspicious? 1. In redirecting everything, our developer was sloppy. There were slug conflicts all over the place and this resulted in hundreds of 404s and mis-directed pages (pages redirected to y instead of x), which he only corrected after we manually found the 404s. We went through 5 or 6 rounds of this. 2. We had over 100 pages without titles and he ran some script that rewrote a lot of existing titles. When we discovered this, he went back and fixed all the titles but only after Google reported 100+ duplicate titles. 3. We installed an internal link building plugin (that we've since deleted) and created business rules for cross linking. This resulted in hundreds of cross links with exact anchor text of the slug / page titles. As mentioned, we've since rolled this back but since the site only has about 50 external backlinks, wondering if the internal link building over-optimized and triggered a penalty. If this is something you think they'd ding us for, now that we've fixed the internal links, do you think Google will give us back some juice? Or is it gone daddy gone? Otherwise, our pages rank 95%-98% optimized according to Moz and we have zero technical issues at this stage.

#1 rankings on both HTTP and HTTPS vs duplicate content
Hi Olivia - Thanks for the question. It's definitely a good one to wrap your head around as anytime you change URLs it's a large undertaking and a lot that can go wrong. What should happen when you move from HTTP -> HTTPS and have done everything correctly (not chaining redirects, etc) is that your HTTP pages will stop ranking in favor of your HTTPS pages which should take their place. Some people have seen a small improvement in rankings from moving to HTTPS, but for the most part people just saw a swapping out of the ranking URL to the HTTPS URL. Make sure you annotate Analytics when this goes live so you can make some correlations from the move. Sometimes people have seen an increase in clickthrough rate because users subconsciously trust HTTPS sites more. Good luck!
