  • Thanks, Stevie. Apparently, there's been a 'phantom' update which I suspect is the culprit...

  • Yes i know about the link spam but it is not about the links and Google Search Console doesnt say anything. I really think it has to do with the images on the page. They show women's breasts. That is the only thing that i could imagine. One more competitor with the same sort of images has seen this drop, out of top 50

  • Hi AARAINDIA, I do have countries set in Google search console for both site. Although my seo extension was writing french texts on spanish site. BIG MISTAKE ! Thanks for office and phone number tip. Great one ! Is that a snippet to write in the header ? Maybe I should try a geolocalised pop up on french site to send spanish trafic to spanish site. Best regards.

  • Its recommended to noindex tags and category pages unless you add unique content to them (otherwise you are cannibalizing the individual post rankings). This is especially true if you only have 1 post in the tag/category and if you display the full text in the tag/category pages. If you want to index and rank the tag/category pages: Add unique text to the category/tag page that describes the types of posts that are listed there + include target keywords Make sure it has a unique title and meta description Don't show the entire posts within the category/tag pages.. instead show excerpts and link to read more.

  • If you are allowing search engines to index all the pages, then the overall link equity is flowing through.

  • Quick update: We've lost even more rankings since I got back from vacation. We've seen 200+ tracked words drop in two weeks, some from top pages to not ranked. Primary areas of concern I have are our SSL is not set up and our site is not automatically mobile responsive. We have a "mini" mobile site which I don't think is an ideal SEO or user experience. I've also found out our PR staff has been allowing other sites to use our content (scrape it). Sometimes, those duplicate content pages link to us, sometimes they don't. I've tried to get our developers to fix these over the last few months, but the company is so large it takes a lot of time to turn that boat around. Any ideas what changes were made during the algorithm update?

  • yeah i was going to suggest searching the code of the page for a link - just because you cant see it, it doesnt mean its not there. I have links from full stops before etc.

  • A lot of e-commerce solutions don't really give you much scope (out of the box) to add a great deal of text content to the product category pages but I can assure you, it's well worth the effort to do so as that copy can make all the difference to your rankings. A fair percentage of your traffic is likely to arrive from top/mid-funnel searches such as 'dining room chairs', for example, and having a paragraph of text, which gives a quick overview of the product range, gives you an opportunity to include the keyword in copy AND  provide further information about the products and service you offer in relation to this product, should they require it. After all, we can skim/skip the copy if it's present and start viewing the products themselves, but give people the choice. Personally, I'd want to show at least some introductory copy on a category page as I've seen the benefits it can deliver (and the detriment of not having any present on the page). If you are able to deliver your potential customers directly to a page which shows off a representative cross-section of products which match their search then you stand a chance of converting them into actual customers. Yes, you could have a separate landing page for 'living room chairs' and then provide a link to the product category but that's effort and gives the visitor another opportunity to go elsewhere. Show them what they want as quickly as possible and the best way I've found to do that (when dealing with product categories similar to this) is with additional copy around the product content.

  • also going to https://casecurity.ssllabs.com/index.html and entering "example.com" or "www.example.com" shows two different certificates. the "example.com" certificate comes up as not trusted and when pasting the ip address into the browser it redirects through to the website. www.example.com certificate comes up as trusted, however when pasting the the ip address it takes me through to a page with the message "your connection is not private" and when clicking the continue anyway link, it takes me through to an unsecure IIS page? is this a problem? or is this a non-issue?

  • Google's official stance: they are equivalent. I prefer using the subfolder structure. If the content on your subdomains is significantly different from your root domain content, Google may treat them separately.
