  • Hey there Eric, I can't think of any right now but you did remind me of this great blog post by Richard Baxter that you may find useful: http://seogadget.co.uk/solving-site-architecture-issues/

  • As Rand said above, the web app is pretty cool. Whilst there are a few other options / companies offering SEO campaign tracking, for me what makes the Moz guys stand out is: Q&A forum - Great for asking questions, or even answering them to get Kudos! Youmoz - the ability to write posts (I keep meaning to do this!) One-off tools... for times when you just want to run a quick check on something, produce something in a rush for a meeting etc, these tools can be handy But all in all, I guess its the 'package' of some of the industry leading tools, mixed with a wicked community , that makes seomoz an excellent 'one-stop shop' to monitor lots of metrics for your SEO campaign, produce reports, and also have a ub where you can read about the latest SEO happenings or techniques, and also actually ask questions when you need a hand. The allowance of 1 private question per month is actually pretty handy too. That's just my thoughts anyway!

  • It is against Google TOS to ask for a link, so the best way to do this, as Dejan SEO have said is to cause a reason to link back to the competition page o the home page. There are various methods of this, and the best has been mentioned - include a code snippet on your contest page, perhaps with a blog footer like so: This post was for a competition hosted by Company Name, promoting Product. Visit their website for more details on this competition (With links in obviously). This will trick a lot of people into thinking that it is necessary to include that footer following their post to keep their entry legitimate, and will obviously be gaining you the contextual link you're after, to multiple pages if you'd like. The other method is via profile badges, or a specific badge for that competition. Encourage users to add your badges to their sites/blogs/individual posts, and make it as easy to do so as possible. One final thing, make sure you give out badges to the finalists, again, linking to your pages. If they're winning something they'll feel obliged to use the badge! Hope all of this helps EuropeanSEOguy!

  • Google has changed the guidelines for this many times. From what I understand, you need to have one listing for the company (for example, if it is a hospital or an attorneys office... or in your case a real state office). Then, you need to have individual listings for each person in that office (doctor so and so.... attorney so and so... realtor so and so). Hopefully each of you have individual numbers or extensions; or Google may try to merge the listings. I have done this before for a dental office and all worked out fine for each individual dentist as I followed the guidelines.

  • KB's are great for user generated content (just look at this one). If it was open to all just imagine how many links it would be attracting!! Obviously your KB would be for SEO benefits, and therefore the best method for gaining from it would be to host it on the clients domain in a sub folder. Most open source CMS's can easily be modified into Knowledge bases with relative little ease - one thing I should recommend is heavy moderation on all posts to ensure that no incorrect answers or spam goes live, as this would make their business look poor. Regards Aaron

  • I wouldn't sweat it.  We left up www.bulwarkpest.com for several months while moving to www.bulwarkpestcontrol.com .... I know that there is some risk in it. But I think Google is pretty understanding of site migrations. Of course I am just a small pest control guy so they may not have ever noticed. Sooo.. take that with a grain of salt. It's does make it easier to have the other site live so that you can redirect on a per page base and know that it's working. I would rather make sure the redirects are correct and working prior to moving the entire site over. But be warned.. site redirects may not always give you the same authority... research the online Yellow Pages.

  • You might be trying to go too general with it... figure out who you're targeting first then tailor the content to them.

  • Hi Vinnie, Google only counts the first link in regards to Anchor text - although there appear to be ways around this if you care to do so, but for the average person, yes, only the first link: http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/3-ways-to-avoid-the-first-link-counts-rule

  • Yeah I don't bother with ALM anymore, it doesn't track like it's supposed to even with the API. AWR is great but ALM is close to useless in my opinion.

  • Have you considered hiring a contractor? If you're in a position where you can't afford to hire more staff but can afford to spend a bit, I would suggest hiring a freelancer to increase the number of hours spent monthly. If you can't do this, you are really limited to Daniels suggestions (minus the blog comments bit) and possibly some generic press release and article work - keep it clean and unspammy.
