  • Hi Annabel, OSE and other link tools may tell you if a site is linking to you, but they are not foolproof because it depends on whether those tools have indexed those links - which could take months. The best way to check if a site is linking to you is with Screaming Frog. Crawl the site you want to check and go to 'Bulk Export' > 'External Links'. This will give you a spreadsheet with all the external links on that domain and from there you can find any links to your domain. Cheers, David

  • Ideally yes, you would have a separate XML Sitemap file and Google Search Console profile, as well as a separate (and combined) Google Analytics view for each of the thousands of subdomains. If that is not possible, at the very least you should have a sitemap that includes every indexable page on the primary site, as well as an XML sitemap on each subdomain, which is linked to in that subdomain's own Robots.txt file. According to the XML sitemaps protocol, XML sitemap files can not contain URLs from different domains. This includes subdomains. You have to keep all URLs to a single domain per XML sitemap. See sitemaps explained for more info. As for the Title Tag thing, I don't see why you couldn't have a street name AND city -- or neighborhood and city -- so that they would all be unique, while still including the city.

  • Hi Adam, Based on what you have said here, it sounds as if these links are harmful and could be disavowed. A few things to look for: Are you the target of harmful/negative SEO? This is my first thought on account of your loss of #1 rankings and the upsurge in spammy leads - it's not as common as it used to be, but negative SEO still exists and some folks would rather go that route rather than try to outrank you naturally. Some clues might lie in when the links were created (how close to one another) and whether they come from an established PBN (look at hosting cues). If sites linking to your site are showing C-Class hosting then you may be the target of negative SEO and should disavow. Have you changed anything on the site that would lead to the drop? You mentioned you haven't done any link building, but you were continuing with a content strategy. Has anything on the site changed with respect to architecture, pathways, etc.? Check for a manual penalty I assume you have checked your Search Console for notifications of a penalty. If not, do that. How long has this been going on? It's not abnormal for rankings to adjust for a few days while SERP's are being compiled. If this has been going on for less than a week, I would give it some more time before you start making significant changes. My wait period is about 14 days before I start worrying. Local SEO Factors Are you seeing decreases in rankings across the board, or is it for a specific geographical area? If general decreases, you are probably looking at a disavow. If localized drops, then it may just be a case of local SEO factors acting against you. TL:DR You can disavow, but if those links are actually helping you then you can't retract your request and you'll have lost them forever. Make sure it's actually the links causing the harm before you go that route. Disavow should be your last choice. Feel free to follow up - always happy to help! Cheers, Rob

  • Thanks for the response. Medium will not work for us, since we need to have a blog ON our website, on the same domain, in a folder. That's why WP usually works. Medium would take all the SEO goodness from our domain Ghost and Jekyllrb - haven't used of these guys, but aren't they third party hosted as well?

  • There could be multiple reasons for a drop if it is only a small few place drop it could be a competitor has been active recently and forced your to drop or maybe the search engine naturally reshuffling the order. For a larger drop, it could be a blip... don't make a knee jerk reaction and make lots of changes which could make things worse. Give it a few days to see if you bounce back. If you find you do not return to your usual ranking placement, then this could be caused by a larger algorithmic change. I would suggest you track how much you change for specific terms and which pages rank. Also as per Egol has another page replaced your current product - e.g duplicates etc. or has another site caused some sort of content cannibalisation by borrowing your content and replacing you.

  • Thank you! Yes, we did create a campaign and it worked out fine. Ofcourse the crawler complains about our site having meta noindex... But it found other issues as well! including a nasty redirect chain and a bunch of broken links!

  • If you want to go with a free tool, you can also check the xenu link sleuth (http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html) Just make a full crawl with the tool, export page map to tab separated file. Then you can open this file in Excel (or any similar software). It should do the job

  • Hi, There are numerous things you can do to improve organic ranking factor on a page-by-page basis. From a quick look at the page, I can suggest to action points that should help with organic ranking and CTR. Page Titles: Page titles should include keywords relevant to the content of the page, try not to use generic 'buzzwords' across all the pages (e.g 'Free Shipping' and 'Best Prices') and keep the page titles within Google Guidelines (50-60 Characters). This is the clickable link that is displayed within the Google search results and can be seen as the most important part, to entice CTR. Meta Descriptions: If meta descriptions are un-optimised, Google will typically pull content directly from the page and ignore the one provided. With the page you provided the meta description length is 276 characters long, Google Guidelines state meta descriptions should be no longer than 160 characters. I would look to update these across all pages that you wish to increase organic traffic for, which should help the ranking factors organically. Here is an article on technical SEO that may help you with other factors: http://searchengineland.com/definitive-seo-audit-part-1-3-technical-250541 Hope this helps, Thanks,

  • My friend, there is no limit on how many backlinks you can get from a website, but its really important on what website you are putting links, websites with high PA DA will boost your page rank where as , if PA DA is not good it will not be beneficial to your website. There is no such exact number. But i want to make you clear about something important. Google gives more importance to the sites which had links from more number of quality root domains than number of links from a single quality site.

  • Hey Flyyazp! I'm Michael, the video guy here at Moz and I'm happy to chime in and offer some assistance. The camera we use is a Canon 5D Mark III with a 24-105mm lens. Igor is right, camera technology has jumped forward quite a bit since 2012, so you can pass on looking for a camcorder and go straight for a nice DSLR, even a used one if it's right for the budget. If you're just shooting a person standing in front of a whiteboard you don't need to spend the extra cash on a brand new camera with 4K technology, unless you need that feature for other videos you plan to make. An important feature you're going to want on any camera you buy will be a headphone jack which will allow you to monitor the sound input to the camera. Here is a video of me talking about how I light Whiteboard Friday and lighting features I recommend regardless of the brand you buy. In addition, our friends at Wistia made a nice little video here that will walk you through some tips for shooting video with a DSLR camera. Our mic is a Sennheiser lavalier our presenter is a Rand Fishkin (super rare). I hope this helps!
