I hope you can shed some more light on our issue the domain www.goudengids.be doesn't seem suspended as many pages are still indexed, but they won't rank. At this moment we kind of rule out the panda update, as our french-speaking domain www.pagesdor.be has been ranking terrificaly and has not seen a drop in rankings nor visits despite being a copy (not entirely), but in a different language of course. So have you witnessed any case where an adwords account was suspended due to bridge page policy, and that this impacted the rankings on your SERPS? Thank you for your time, SEOStallion, Nikolaas

I can't remember which conference it was at the moment, but a Googler talked about how if you have too many hashtags they see that as spam and it might not make it into the real time search. I know some people just have fun with the hashtags, but we use them in our tweets for things like #SEO #socialmedia #analytics, etc whenver it makes sense.

Thanks both for your responses.  It's a strange one and I can only assume that these pages remain in Google's index - I have checked many link sources and found that the links do not exist and therefore haven't done since the page was deleted.  It seems ridicilous that you should have to 301 every page you delete, there are literally 500+ of these phantom links to non-existant URLs and the site is changing all the time. I have opted to add a 'no index' meta to the 404s and also encourage them to delete from index by adding the pages to the robots.txt file. Let's see if it works - I'll post on here when I know for sure so other people with the same question can see the outcome. Thanks again, Damien and Steven.

I repeated this elsewhere, but I think canonical on 404 page does make sense, especially if you consider the following two statements true: There is a reason for 404s, don't 301 everything There is no reason to lose the value of someone linking to your page. If those 2 statements are true then you should create an individual error page, and then everytime you serve a 404 you should include canonical to that error page. That page should have useful content (explanation of page missing and where you could go), probably a search box, and links to the most valuable content on your site. This satisfies both points.

I use the Socialite plugin on my wp blogs. Not only can you have your posts automatically tweeted, but you can also use a URL shortener of your choice, and cross post to facebook and myspace as well.

Definitely go for the one domain approach in a bid to create a larger digital footprint, I too used to have multiple single domains targeting a keyword or two and now after the last Google Panda update these keyword rich domains aren't as effective as they once were.

If you are relevant in multiple categories I see no harm in trying to get links from all of them, it's quick and easy to submit your site. The category structure in Dmoz isn't perfect so it can be difficult to know which is the most relevant category for your site especially with some being so similar.

I looked at the source code and it redirected to another domain.  The whois for that domain had the same invalid email.  However, I searched that domain and found a "contact us" page.  So, hopefully I've tracked him down!

Looking forward, if you plan on keeping your old domain well into the future, search engines do take into account the domain expiration date. This indicates to search engines how permanent the site is, but I can't say how much this will affect your ranking.
