Google Directory no longer available?
I think the moral of the story is that unless you think you are going to get traffic from DMoz or Yahoo Directory, they aren't worth your time. You can get far better, more relevant, higher PR passing links than those for less effort.

Do you build tools meant to be shared on Facebook?
While the topic is hot in the news, that is the time to submit to reddit, slashdot, digg, etc... Your idea of commenting on newspaper sites is a good one... pick the highest traffic ones. =========== Do this with all of your content... watch the news carefully... swiftly draw the proper sword at the proper time. Its your sword.

Open Site explorer
Once a month we see an update to the index for OSE. I think in the coming days we will see a few update so I would hold tight. Or you can use other services to track incoming links to your website.

Facebook Reach from 1,200 to less than 20 in 24 hours?
Weird, what was the area if you don't mind asking. I have seen Facebook be a bit buggy with ads recently, but all the campaigns I have done usually target very large demos and broad groups I don't do niche targeting. My advice is to wait a week, try some new ad creative i.e. new images and what not and see if any changes happen. Or you could even try running the campaign off another account from the business. Kind Regards, James

Worth changing existing link profile to make it more natural?
1. If you do want to re-balance, switch the links to use some obscure long-tail anchor text and see if you move up for that term. This is an easy way to find out if they are actually passing juice. Drop the ones that aren't. 2. Build out and balance your link profile. If you can't beat your competitors with less than 20% exact anchor text, then you need to increase your overall link profile.

Meta refresh - nojavascript url
We all wish the tools were perfect. The reality is they are software and will be upgraded over their lifetime. This particular issue is a pretty narrow focus. If it is indeed just an issue with the SEOmoz crawler I would recommend reporting it to the help desk so they have an opportunity to investigate the matter and hopefully list it as a bug which can be addressed.

Duplicating an article I wrote on an external blog
I like the rel author option in this case. It doesnt really take care of the indexing issues, but I lean toward not worrying about it. In some cases, i let Google figure out which one they want to index given the two. They will probably choose the original posting, but if you get comments and discussion, I can see that bubbling to the top. Its more like news sites or aggregators at that point.

Multiple anchor text links
You won't lose PR. This is something that is most likely filtered out by search engines after a crawl. SEOmoz has probably just chosen not to implement such a filter.

Russian SEO: Do you know some good sources with tips and news about Yandex?
I doubt you will ever find any decent resource in English about doing SEO in Russia. At least I've never seen one. Normally, a big part of the content on such a resource is user-contributed (like here on SEOMoz), and there's no reason for Russian users and seo-marketers to use English when they can write in their native language. Paid links are very popular in Russia. Buying and selling goes through www.sape.ru. This is a link exchange which is far more superior than its analogues in the English-speaking world. I've never done SEO in Russia (being a native Russian) but I know for sure that without paid links you will hardly get into the top-10 in Yandex. Especially if you sell on a competitive market. Disclaimer: I'm not a big fan of paid linking. Just reporting the things how they are in Russia. There are fiercely competitive markets, such as travelling, where you can consider yourself lucky if your travel agency gets into the third page of SERP even if you buy links on SAPE

Duplicate content, canonical and seasonally changing of home page content
If you are going to be leaving the first "indexed" one up for the time being add in a canonical as soon as you can. If not, 301 it to the new one. It may be indexed, but I don't see a benefit to it since there isn't any description to the ones you already have in there and they probably aren't ranking: Google listings

SEOMoz Toolbar in Chrome
I think you're stuck with it. I also get odd effects sometimes when scrolling in PDFs when the mozbar is on in chrome. I read somewhere that there's an update in the works for the chrome toolbar - hopefully that'll make the chrome version as whizzy as the firefox one is now.
