When Company names confuse search
Very interesting question. I'm also wondering if BSC + accounting (as an example) impedes your client's ability to rank because of lowered brand ranking signals. B.Sc. audiences are bound to bounce more and spend far less time on page and site. They're unlikely to link to you when they might, in fact, link to one of your B.Sc. competitors.

How do you implement an SEO site structure with content that falls under two silos?
I don't know that there is "structure" that you can implement as far as having categorical pages. However, an easy way to fix this would be to use the canonical tag. Moz defines it as "A canonical tag (aka "rel canonical") is a way of telling search engines that a specific URL represents the master copy of a page. Using the **canonical tag **prevents problems caused by identical or "duplicate" content appearing on multiple URLs." That way you can tell google which of the two you really want them to index. Otherwise you have to change the content enough that google see's it as different content.

Server update to ipv6, SEO consequences
As long as all of the URLs stay the same and you aren't building a blog network (a bunch of sites that interlink), I don't think you'd see much of an SEO difference. I haven't seen anyone complain about that particular issue which is a good sign. If/when you follow through, please comment back and let everyone know your experience!

Spam pages being redirected to 404s but sill indexed
In addition to the above, you can request removal from Google's index in Search Console https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en As noted, the removal is temporary (90 days), but if you've removed the pages and any links to them, then they won't reappear. What I would do is just check that your sitemap is up to date, and there aren't any legacy sitemaps hanging about that might still reference the pages, and also run a crawl of your site to ensure that there aren't any remaining links to these pages hanging about.

Upgarded woocommerce 2 to 3 and saw a large drop in rank
H Olegi, We lost traffic to all areas. Robots are the same, canonicals seem fine. There are a lot more url's that seem to be the various sized thumbnail images. Now we are suffering heavily from the March update. Thanks,

Pillar pages and blog pages
Thank you Miriam. I can't agree more with what you said. See that Normandy isn't a pillar page. I guess the best approach is to create blog bags that are more general that cyclists might be interested about. For example, the best cycling shorts in 2019 and so one.... Is it the way you would go ?

Google ranking penalty: Limited to specific pages or complete website?
Hello vtmoz, Nope. If rankings drop for certain pages are due to few keywords, it affects only the pages where they are placed and not for other pages / home page. when primary keyword is deployed widely across the website, Yes... you can see some drops / changes in the rankings. Also it's not penalty from Google, but your webpage / website is not upto the ranking recommendations from google. Hence just make sure your optimization for the keywords are done properly for the placed pages and recommend using unique keywords for all pages apart from few primary keywords. www.angleritech.com

Best domain setup for network of locations
Good afternoon! My ideal approach is that you go with a single website at domain.com with the location landing pages all being domain.com/chicago It's the simplest method with no drawbacks of any kind. Subdomains can get you into this messy controversy: https://www.seroundtable.com/seo-google-fight-subdomains-subdirectories-25126.html But, your scenario has an extra layer of complexity built into it, in that your client has also built out multiple domains. That makes this such an 'it depends' scenario, that it's unlikely you'll be able to get a really authoritative answer from anybody who isn't looking at your client's actual domains. So, what I can say here is that, ideally, I'd recommend a single website with all content on it and links to it going to strengthen the overall authority of the domain and brand instead of being divided up across multiple domains. I think this is the strongest approach, in terms of SEO, branding, consumer experience, ease of management, etc. But, I will say that there are some cases in which, if the client is earning significant revenue from multiple domains, it could be not-the-best idea to tell them to take those down or even re-direct them. On the other hand, sometimes the client has simply created a spammy mess, sometimes even for the purpose of fooling search engines and customers, in which case, you may need to make overhauling all of their web assets a prerequisite of working with them. Definitely, this is an "it depends".

Company acquired but keeping website for now. How to rebrand without losing traffic?
Alagu, thank you for your reply. Currently we'll be staying on the same domain, however we expect to need to migrate relevant content to the acquirer's site in future, at which point we'll need to consider the 301s. Thanks!

I am new to MOZ
Hi there Kevin! Sorry for any confusion. In simplest terms, the Moz Local service automatically pushed out listing data to our partner sites, who then accept, process, and update the information on their sites. Here is the full list of our partners for US listings: Infogroup Acxiom Neustar/Localeze Factual Foursquare Superpages Best of the Web Citysearch CityGrid Insiderpages Hotfrog Bing Apple HERE TomTom NavMii Uber Waze If you have already claimed a listing on any of those sites, we will not be able to override that claim to update the data. You can monitor your accuracy and progress in the Moz Local dashboard. We automatically begin sending out your data to all our partners when you purchase a listing subscription from us. If you do not have a listing on a given site, one will be created for you. Generally we expect updates to complete in 8-12 weeks. I hope that helps! Feel free to reach out to us at help@moz.com if you have further questions.

Corporate Contact - Schema Markup
Hi Roman, John Mueller recently confirmed (though not very definitively as you'll see in the video) that Organization Schema only needs to be on the homepage. From Google's Guidelines: "Enable your company's contact information to prominently display customer service phone numbers in Google Knowledge Graph cards in some searches with corporate contact markup. Include the contact markup on one page in your official site." Some disagree and suggest this is not the correct application of Schema (Oganization data should be included on all pages), but anecdotally (from what I've seen and heard) just the homepage seems to work fine for most sites. Best, Mike

How to Rank Local Website in Search Engines?
Hello Korado11, As I understand your question, you are offering a service in a large city with several hundred districts, and you are hoping to rank for your service in multiple districts. There will be several facets to the advice I can give you about this. If you are trying to rank in the organic results for these districts, your ability to do so will be based on a combination of domain authority, page authority, links, optimization, website content and user behavior. If you are trying to rank in the local results for these terms, everything in #1 applies, plus other factors like reviews and citations, but you must also take into account the role user proximity plays in local rankings. If you are physically located in district A and your potential customer is located in district B, Google simply may not show you in the local results for that user, because they are not physically near your business at the time of search. Where competition is low or weak, it is sometimes possible for a business to rank locally in multiple districts of a large city, but if competition is stiff, it will be an uphill battle to overcome Google's extreme bias towards user proximity. Whether you are hoping to rank organically or locally, your key here will be to do a competitive audit of the businesses outranking you to see how their metrics for each surmised ranking factor outweigh yours. You will tally this up with software or in a spreadsheet and this is what should set the strategy that you or any marketer you hire will enact so that your metrics can compete with and eventually surpass those of the businesses currently outranking you. *However, there may be some things you simply can't overcome, like user proximity. Where organic/local efforts fail, your alternatives are PPC, social and offline marketing to reach audiences you just can't access via SEO . I would advise you to closely study the most recent Local Search Ranking Factors survey to see which factors expert local SEOs feel have most impact on local and localized-organic results. You will want to familiarize yourself with each factor, and most of them should be in your competitive audit process. I will also link you here to a post I wrote two years ago containing a spreadsheet for a competitive local business audit, but I want to mention that there are some new factors I'd be adding to that in 2019. Nevertheless, it will give you a good idea of what an audit should look like. At the end of the above process, what you'd want to have is a list of tasks and goals, including a list of goals that aren't going to be achievable so that you don't waste time or money on pursing them with tactics that won't actually work. By studying the SERPs and your competitors, you should begin to have a strong sense of which districts you may be able to achieve a strong local and organic presence in, and which districts may be beyond the reach of SEO, making it more sensible for you to attempt to reach those desired audiences with PPC, social or offline outreach. Hope this helps!

What do you think of these profile links for SEO?
Hi Julie, The domain authority on the pages all look good. But what matters more to the SEO impact is how related the linking page/site is to the site that they are linking to. You did not say what the target site was. But if the target site is for a musician or artist, then the spotify or creativemarket links would be more valuable than the moz link. Hope this helps,
