Surviving a Redesign
Yes, if you cover your bases with testing, and 301 redirect everything, you should be in good shape. That said, it's important that the new site loads quickly and has a great user experience. If it's slower than the new site, that won't be helpful for user engagement. We recently migrated a client from OS Commerce to Magneto, and they saw their conversion to purchase rate increase in the hours after we switched over the site. I think that the new design helped, and it made it less confusing to the end user. Let us know how it works for you... -- Jeff

We have two different websites with the same products and information, will that hurt our rankings?
Apologies if I am jumping in, but I just wanted add something to the mix. I also have a very similar situation and I posted this question on this forum earlier today. So I was wondering, does it not matter that each website has geographic targeting for different countries on Google Webmaster? For example, we have a brochure website, and we are selling the same service in multiple countries. It make sense to have country specific domains. And it is very difficult to describe the same product 3 different ways. It just doesn't make sense. However, are you saying that the sites would need to have unique content or different content from each other even though their geographic targets are set to different countries. By the way my sites are starting small with around 10 pages each.

Significantly reducing number of pages (and overall content) on new site - is it a bad idea?
Hi Luke I wouldn't say keyword density is totally irrelevant, but what I mean by that is that you would expect to see on any page the keywords related to the subject of that page. But attempting to add keywords to a page to increase density to make it more indexable is not what you should be doing. The focus of a page for semantic search needs to be the subject as a whole so content should be written for the whole in much the same way as you would write offline and include related content where relevant. I'm not sure if there really is a safe percentage as such for keyword density, but suffice to say that the higher the percentage the more likely a page will be seen as spammy. I would have thought in most cases though <3% should be fine. Peter

Google+ how to optimize [best practice tips]
Your listing plays a huge part in local SEO, so it is vital to optimize your listing correctly with as much detail as possible. Step 1: Claim your listing! Google may have already created a places listing for your business so the next step is to claim your listing and verify your location. Before you verify your location, make sure the NAP (Name, Address & Phone Number) are correct and are consistent with any citations you may have already done. Consistency is critical for businesses wishing to rank well in the local organic search results, as it helps google understand your business and its location. If google hasn’t created a places listing for your business, go ahead and create one yourself! To verify your location, Google usually give you the option of having a postcard sent to your listed address with a pin number for you to enter online. Step 2: Tell Google Everything! The whole point of having a places listing is for google and your audience to fully understand what your business does, so tell them everything! To get the full benefit of having a listing on google you must give as much information as possible, so make sure you include things such as: Hours of operation Website link Contact Information include phone numbers and an email address Photos & videos Payment options But on top of all of that, the two most important thing you need to do is correctly complete the keyword category. You need to find the correct keyword that matches what you do or offer as a business. This can sometimes be difficult to do as google does not list every job title, but to overcome this problem i advise you take a quick peek at your competitors Google listing and see what they have put as their keyword. This can give you a rough idea and possibly be the one you are looking for. By adding all of this information along with a valuable description of your business, Google will be able to understand your business and help point the correct traffic towards your listing. Step 3: Keep it maintained! After completing the previous 2 steps, your listing should be complete with everything you need… but you need reviews! Your goal is to get as many positive reviews as possible, not only does it make your business look trusted and professional but it also helps you outrank your competitors. Step 4: Communicate! A lot of people create a places listing to help bring in traffic, but many people leave it to rot away once verified..Don’t be one of them! Keep your listing updated by correcting any changes that occur in your business, whether it be the hours of operation or the location! Don’t forget to blog, create a blog post every week to keep your customers informed on any news. Regularly upload pictures or videos and let the customers know of everything happening in the business. Now your never ending mission is to get as many +1’s as possible, this will help your business expand. Hope this helps!

Do onpage named anchors play a part in SEO?
I use them a lot. I have not done detailed studies for with/without on same page. The pages where I use them compete powerfully in very difficult root-keyword SERPs and also pull in tons of long-tail traffic. So, speaking from my gut, in my opinion, they are second only to the <title>tag in their on-page optimization power. </p> <p>I am using them a lot, but I am not using them enough.</p></title>

$2000 for trust badges, is it worth it?
I'll give you my non-SEO advice here as all the answers above are good from an SEO perspective. I personally don't believe in them. From a security standpoint they don't actually prove anything. I can show you 1,000's of insecure sites that carry big name trust badges. Whenever I see a site prominently displaying a trust badge I always think they are trying to compensate for a lack of security with a giant sticker. On companies you would generally trust like microsoft, vmware, google, amazon, etc there are no trust badges displayed. I think a nice statement in your policies about security is a much better move. People who are already security conscious can seek out the information while users who weren't worried about it in the first place won't be freaked out and security snobs like myself won't think you're trying hard Ps. feel free to drop me a line if you need any security advice. -Nick

Does anyone have an idea of the benefits of Google Analytics Premium?
Hi Anthony, A full discussion of the pro's and con's of Google Analytics Premium requires more depth than I can share in this response, but I'm happy to answer your questions and answer additional questions or talk offline. Our company is a Google Analytics Premium Authorized Reseller and we have many clients using the platform. I answer your questions from that perspective. "all it seems you gain access to is more support from google" - There are many more benefits to GA Premium than just the additional support, but you also shouldn't discount the additional support. It's quite extensive. You're basically getting access to a world class analytics team along with your product purchase. No other product I know of includes that level of support. This support is provided by the reseller if purchased through a reseller. "I'm talking about the (Not Set) data" - I assume you're talking about (not provided). If you're seeing an increase in (not set) data that is quite fixable. However, Premium customers are treated no differently when it comes to (not provided). You'll see the same data no matter what tool you use. Just be thankful you're (not provided) data is growing. That's a good thing. "Any thought opinions or even more questions" - That's too open ended for this response, but I'm happy to answer questions in detail offline or additional general questions in this thread. As far as the value of Premium, one question you could ask yourself is "How much more value could we generate if we had accurate data, access to all of our data, additional features to analyze that data, and resources to help us make sense of the data?" If the answer is a large enough value then you should seriously consider Premium. Hopefully that helps and I'm happy to continue the discussion. My site is not being regularly crawled?
Google may have reduced their crawl budget for your site if they found enough pages to be low quality, thin, duplicate, etc... Here are some examples that you can probably apply a noindex tag to in order to reduce crawl budget waste on them. Google these: site:howlatthemoon.com/ inurl:tag 1,360 indexed pages that don't need to be in the SERPs site:howlatthemoon.com/ inurl:tag page Even if you want the tag pages indexed, you don't need their paginated pages indexed too site:howlatthemoon.com/ inurl:page inurl:category A few dozen category pagination pages in the SERPs, many more on the site that have been booted from the index Example: http://www.howlatthemoon.com/dueling_piano_bar/category/nightlife/page/2/ I would install the Yoast Wordpress SEO plugin, which should fix these in the following ways: Use rel canonical tags Use rel Next/Prev tagsNoindex tag pages etc...

Does IE9 use doucument mode IE9 Standards or Quirks???
Hi Gregory, It can be a real pain, and the short answer is it depends on the doctype you are declaring and the browser version you are viewing it in. Check this page for some more details (seems odd to be referencing wikipedia here, but it is a pretty good overview). Putting this code into your head will force IE to use the highest mode available (not quirks mode in other words): Hope it helps!

Help required to get the right landing page ranking
Go with Serpbook or rankchecker...I was furious to receive a report from Moz today telling me that around 50 keywords went from Rank 1 to rank nowhere. after they brought me back from my heart attack incident (sarcasm) I decided to check SErobooks and a free tool called rankchecker and my keywords were fine and where they should be ranking wise. I do not trust Moz on rankings at all tbh
