Agreed with Alan, do as Alan said and Google will actually figure out what is the original version of the website.

The next time Google crawls the previously-linking page, it should note that the link is gone, as it will cache the page. Any benefit or detriment that the links was passing on should technically be nullified. Moz's crawl will update when it re-visits the page as well, but the frequency of Moz, Googlebot and the updating WMT is really hard to predict. If the link is on a highly-traffic, well linked-to page, G and Moz should pick it up quickly. If not, it can take a long time. The Moz index is updated about every 3 - 4 weeks; again, the removal of one individual link requires the latest crawl to have noticed that it has gone, which is likely but not a certainty.

Yea I'd already blocked some duplicates from a BuddyPress issue, so I didn't want to just jump in and block straight away without some further investigation. Good to know that's the best solution to keep things clean. Cheers for answering Dan.

I still think given he has around 6500, if half of those are sitewide, it isn't to his benefit. What do you think? (I know you do a lot with penalty removal.)  He has gotten a partial penalty. Hi Dario, You should prefer the account with the better reach to a responsive crowd. There are a lot of fake accounts nowadays so if you are looking for people to help you promote your brand, go with someone active and interacts, someone that can actually get you results. So yeah, Vadim said it best. Authority is superior.

You would definitely get a lot of tools with HubSpot, not to mention you could potentially add their product to your services. I've worked with Act-On, a product very similar to HubSpot, and I think you will find that you will spend a lot of time upfront learning and setting up the system. I don't think that this type of system is a solution to your 'no time' problem. I'm not saying that you shouldn't give HubSpot a try, but you won't find yourself any less busy, and there won't be any less fires to put out. It may help you appear more polished and professional, but there is a huge investment there where you could get the these results for potentially less of an investment by hiring someone to design your templates and help you implement systems.

OK I think I understand what you did "The old site, which has many backlinks to the new site, is still in Google's index" So you are pointing links from a penalized site to your new clean site, hope you are using nofollows? hmmm. Not a good idea if not! I would not 301 redirect either. As this will simply assign all the bad stuff over to your new domain as well. The blog is internal which is a good thing now, but the low quality will effect the whole site eventually. Low quality content must be addressed or Google will hit the site hard with the Panda Algorithm. That low quality then links to your internal pages, not a good idea either. If the blog offers no real value and you are unable to maintain it then remove it for now completely and focus on creating a well rounded good quality site first. A few good blog posts is better than a hundred terrible ones.

Thanks very much Jane! I think subdirectories are how I'll go. Effective; organic SEO is HUGE for my initial online success. We market only with direct mail so far. But mailing lists don't address human situations ie: people who've inherited a property AND with it a 2nd mortgage payment AND they're stressed because they can't afford the 2nd payment AND their realtor hasn't sold the inherited property.One last question for all- With effective landing page SEO & SERP being my primary goal; is the web URL structure term "siloing" familiar to anyone and applicable / adaptable to my multiple landing pages? (I found the term  & explanation here: http://www.bruceclay.com/seo/silo.htm) Or is some other method more advisible in order to "pool" my subdirectories for better SEO in SERP? Peter

Hi William, While I have no personal experience with Shopify, I can give you a list of things to be sure whatever solution you choose is local-friendly. The domain name belongs solely to florist and isn't occupied by any other business The homepage and contact page are real, static pages that can be indexed You have the ability to put as much text on the pages as you want You can edit areas like the footer to include the complete business NAP, hopefully including schema markup You are allowed to use the florist's own, local area code phone number on the site (not some third party number) You are not limited as to the number or type of pages you can create The code being used by the solution is fully crawl-able Text on the site is real text - not image text You are closing down the original website; don't publish 2 websites for the same business If the domain name is changing, you must clean up existent citations around the web to be certain they reflect this change. Basically, you need to make sure that any solution you use does not hinder you from implementing normal Local SEO best practices. I hope others will chime in here who have used this specific solution and can tell you more about its benefits/drawbacks.

I can share a couple of free tools I find useful (other than Google Keyword Planner)... Google Trends is always a good broad tool to look at to see where popularity for those keywords are at. Of course your keywords will need to have enough volume, but you can get pretty good segmentation now in GTrends. Ubersuggest is a great tool to find a huge list of related variations to your keywords. Very useful for planning out content. Moz's Keyword Analysis tool I find is very useful for judging the difficulty of the keywords you are researching. You want to target keywords that have enough traffic, but also are not to competitive if you are starting some initial optimization. SEMRush is another useful and popular tool for keyword research. You can get traffic estimates and competition level estimates for a large index of keywords in localized Google serps. It is free for limited data - paid for full results. You can also use tools like Fresh Web Explorer, AllTop, Topsy and even Google Alerts to give you ideas of popularity of keywords and different content groups. TL;DR Moz is great for difficulty and competition research, but there are better tools (and free!) on the market for traffic and popularity measuring - use a combination of both!
