  • Hi Bruce, This is the first place to start your reading: http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo. One of the most comprehensive beginners guides you will find. With your link building, read the section in the guide on this before going out to try and acquire them. -Andy

  • I can't as due to a couple of relationships it would out the client. The client is large enough that these people would know their (our client's) marketing firm which is my company. I even thought about having an employee handle it, but the purchase is too important to the client for it to fall through if we can get close.  Thanks,

  • No worries on the delay.  It gave me time to research it all more I believe the issue is related to slow load times on low bandwidth connections & too much processing time on older computers.  This made it so people with faster machines and better ISPs liked my site while slower connection and older machine visitors hated it....that's my guess anyhow. I'm redoing the site in bootstrap and have greatly reduced load and processing time. I'll share the results when I have them.

  • Hi Alex, Thank you for your insight and words of wisdom. It's comforting to know that using G+ Social, NAP (company name, address, telephone number), marker location and website url can be changed without losing user reviews. Thanks Mark

  • I have a few of the new TLD's and love the fact you can get something that really says what you do, but you still have to be quick. I have a live site at www.seoconsultant.guru, and got very lucky with www.changing.careers They give some real change to the more standard .com's etc. -Andy

  • Andrew, I wouldn't put crawlable versions of reviews found on other sites on my product pages for the same reason you are concerned. You could put them in an iFrame, which should take care of the issue. However, in order to get the star ratings in the SERPs the Schema markup for aggregate ratings should be outside of that iframe. An aggregate rating doesn't include the review copy since it is including all of the reviews (e.g. 4 out of 5 stars based on 320 reviews). Meanwhile, I would be working on getting your own unique, real reviews up on your site so you benefit from the user-generated content that nobody else has.

  • I would be very surprised that the hidden text is actually working, and I would think that google is just ignoring it and other factors are making it rank. Something like font size = 0 or same colour as the background, would be so easily picked up by a bot/algorithm compared  to some complex things it can pickup on.

  • Sorry for the late reply! Short answer: yes. That looks like a gradual drop that could be caused by lack of new activity and/or engagement with your site. I'd be surprised if it was link-based.

  • Hi Mark, If there is zero relationship of data between the old site and the new one (such as you've described) you should likely be okay. Regarding blocking bots from crawling the new site until it is ready, this falls a bit outside my area. I expect you could set up the robots.txt file for this, but I recommend starting a new question on this topic to get expert advice from our technical SEO experts. You have to be sure to do this correctly to avoid problems. Hope this helps.

  • Hi Jason I've never had this problem yet (touch wood) but what I find works is verifying the actual business via phone or postcard, which you have done, linking the web URL in the 'Contact Us' section and then creating a Google+ button on your webpage which links to the URL that you have entered. E.g. http:www.russkellfurniture.co.uk https://plus.google.com/106174762290348981656 Sometimes it takes a couple of days for Google to recognise that they are linked, but this is the way I usually find works. If you're still struggling in a couple of days time I suggest you try https://support.google.com/places/contact/c2c_places (they are online from 2pm UK time). I've spoke to these guys a couple of times regarding issues with Google Places and Local accounts and they always sort the problem for me. Let me know if you're still having trouble! Luke Gilrane
