  • Pixus - I'm with you on this! May I ask if you use a particular citation platform here is the UK? If so, do you use it for your own business to promote your services, or for your clients, and what impact has this had? I'm really interested to find out more.

  • Hi There I'm honestly not versatile in the intricacies of how window.location works - but I can tell you how to check if this is OK for search engines. You can try a few things to see how Google "sees" the content; Do a fetch as Googlebot in Webmaster Tools Check the cache of the page if it has already been indexed (try text-only cache) Try running it through a header checker like URI Valet (set to Googlebot as user agent) In all cases, you will get a "search engine view" of the page content. If it's what you want engines to see, then you are all set! As far as the details of how to implement everything, I'd have to lean on a developer for that. But that's how you would check and verify it.

  • Yes, this will be totally fine. Google ignores bookmarks (#) like this, so Google will just see a redirect from http://www.mysite.com/shoes/red/description to http://www.mysite.com/shoes/red#desc. Good luck! Kristina

  • Although the canonical should solve the issue, try adding a ? after your url and before your variables - that is the default way variables are declared and couple help solve problems. http://www.cyrusrugs.com/bridge-traditional-area-rug-item-7636&category_id=270&sizes=12x15,12x18&click=sizes to http://www.cyrusrugs.com/bridge-traditional-area-rug-item-7636**?**category_id=270&sizes=12x15,12x18&click=sizes You should also try Sam's suggestion.. although I too don't think should make a difference.

  • Google will index the two sitemaps fine, just remember to submit them both if the root sitemap doesn't cover WordPress. A blog could be a great addition, and you could share posts in the forums as a way to distribute the content. Your plan is sound, as long as you install everything correctly and people like your blogs

  • Thanks for the tip.  I verified that GWT has me set to brazil (was automatic because of the .br domain). So guess it's just because I haven't done any of the needed leg-work yet. I have some partners that are in related businesses I'm going to see about getting links from.

  • You've gotten some excellent advice already.  I'll add a few of my thoughts. First of all, have you been doing link building?  If not, then this may not be the right road to go down.  If you've noticed a drop just recently, it may be that the Panda algorithm is affecting your site and Panda really isn't about link quality.  There was a big Panda update on May 20 although many sites started seeing changes a couple of days before that. If you have been doing link building and you want to clean up your links then the goal is to find ones that were self made with the intention of gaming Google and then remove or disavow those. William's list is a good place to start.

  • Egol as always gives a common sense answer. I would not worry about a ratio, unless it is really bad. Search engines have a limit on how much of a page they will crawl, as there is no limit on how large a page may be, but unless you have a huge amount of code before content I would not be concerned. From Bing The page contains a large block of embedded script code. Search engines will ignore script code, but large quantities of script will force the actual text content of the page further down in the HTML. Since search engines may analyze only the first 100 KB of a page, it is possible that the script block may prevent search engines from indexing any page content.

  • Hi there, I think what William is saying is that site B will receive the benefit of a new linking domain, but that linking domain (site A) is many times stronger than site B because of its extra backlinks. As a result, site B still gains a good amount from receiving the redirect. There are different opinions on this, i.e. on whether a redirect seems to help a lot more than this, and every case in which this takes place seems to have different results, largely because of all the other metrics affecting both sites. It's obviously hard to test this in a controlled environment. There is debate around how much of a boost a cross-domain redirect actually has on the destination website - certainly in days gone by, the site at which the redirect is pointed will receive the vast majority, if not all, of the redirected site's rankings. This can still happen if all of the content on site A's redirected pages is reflected on site B, or if site B's content is sufficiently the same. However, if you were just redirecting for the purpose of making site B stronger and there was no real cross-over between the content of either page / site, this process shouldn't have a hugely beneficial effect on site B.

  • Howdie, Yes, I believe we got this sorted out. Interestingly, it wasn't any of the suggestions made here causing the 301 status code responses. I posted a thread in Google Webmaster Tools Forum regarding the issue and received a response that I am 99.5% sure is the correct answer. Here is a link to that thread for future readers' reference: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!mydiscussions/webmasters/zOCDAVudxNo I believe the underlying issue has to do with incorrect handling of a redirect for this domain:  ccisound.com I am currently pursuing getting it corrected with our IT Director. Once the remedy is in place, I should know right away if it solves the issue I am seeing in the server logs. I'll post back here once I am 100% certain that was the issue. Thanks all! This has been an interesting one for me!

  • it's because its used by affiliate links. You can try to hide the links behind another one so technically its not in the email (it goes though the link) a link redirect kind of. Alternatively set up a landing page track users on that landing page combine with the email program tracker you can work out how many were sent, how many bounced and how many landed on the page. Hope that helps a little.

  • Thanks Jane! That's the affirmation I was looking for. If I might, one more question: In your opinion, is PA 15 too valuable to leave on a page with no real purpose? Is it relative to the site? Thanks again, Luke Thomas
